The Headmistress sat by her window, veiled in black cloth. Though she was blinded as well as covered almost completely head to toe, she still loved to sit by the window and feel the glow of the rising sun. Moreover, today's sun hearkened a new day. New Flight School's new campus was finally built due to the help that she had managed to get, and though it was small, it had teachers and staff and new students that were coming soon. She had walked around the campus all night, simply feeling the walls and doorways of every building.

First of all, the entire campus was surrounded by a sturdy stone wall, and the only entrance was guarded by two stone golems at least as three times as tall as she. This archway led into the campus, with a lovely little plaza and a fountain in the center. To the right of this were the residential buildings, organized into three houses with their different flights and advisors. To the left was a training field, a garden and a pool. Dead center was the academic building, and to the right of that was the tower in which the Headmistress currently sat.

As she mused, she heard the footsteps of a fairy coming up from behind her.
"Ah, Agnes. Good morning." Agnes was her personal assistant, who also managed the library and served as one of the counselors on staff. The most noticeable aspect about her was that she had glassy pink eyes like stars, ones that had intricate magickal patterns surrounding them. Dialuna had read in her books that those were primal eyes, ones that showed a deep connection to the Arcane. The Headmistress was not surprised.

"Breakfast is ready, ma'am," Agnes announced, adjusting her glasses and swishing some fluffy black hair out of her face.
"Lovely." The Headmistress stood to her full 6'4 stature and her heels clattered against the floor as she walked. Agnes was not far behind her. They would need breakfast for orientation day; the golems were already starting to let the early birds of the student population come in.

Jasper awoke with a start, having fallen asleep in the taxi that had taken her there.
"You're here, kid." With an understanding nod, Jasper grabbed her one bag and gracefully tripped out onto the floor, the taxi quickly speeding back off down the mountain. When she lifted her head only to see two towering golems staring down at her, she thought she had lost her mind. Still, this school was different; she knew that going in. Luckily for her, the golems were nice and let her into the gate. Once she got in, she smelled breakfast and saw some students as well as some faculty walking around and mingling. Her stomach growling, she grabbed some breakfast meat and some eggs and sat down in the plaza, shoving it down her gullet with an embarrassing enthusiasm.

Asher

Ash was exhausted as the taxi he was in pulled up to the school. Exhaustion was expected of someone who had spent the last couple days on a variety of trains, buses, and finally a taxi traveling across the country to get here. His parents would have allowed him to take a plane to the closest airport, then a taxi to get here, although they had a fear that his powers would interfere with the plane and it'd drop out of the sky, so he stuck with traveling across land. Asher climbed out of the car, grabbing his bag then looking up at the golems that guarded the school's gates. He could only be thankful that he wasn't the only student arriving at that time.

He entered gates of the school looking around at the campus in amazement. He knew that the school was different, but it was unlike anything he had ever seen before. Although to be fair, he had only seen normal public schools before, not any private or boarding schools, and certainly not a school for the magically gifted. Ash forced himself to stop admiring the school, and go get some food. Once he found where they served breakfast he got himself coffee, he had never liked the taste of coffee but it would help him survive and stay awake the first day, and a piece of toast, he had eaten a granola bar about 40 minutes before arriving having no idea if they would have food for his arrival or not so he wasn't too hungry. Once Asher had his food he went out the plaza, and began to eat his toast, and drink his coffee.

Vivianne

Vivianne got the unpleasant feeling that her parents were afraid of her. Afraid of what she could do. It made her feel bad, ashamed even, for having any such ability. She kept that to herself, even as she was driven to the school where she would spend the next two years of her life. It looked like a prison with its high stone walls. Maybe it was one. She couldn't say. She tried to keep an open mind, even as the car reached the drop off point. That was as far as the driver could go. She was on her own after that.

She had two bags. A backpack, filled to the brim with whatever she thought she couldn't live without, and a suitcase. The suitcase was a deep shade of blue, and the backpack was a dark purple. It felt heavy on her shoulders, but she didn't care. She took it in stride as she walked through the gate, trying not to stare at the golems. She had been from a relatively small town. It was far, quiet, and had a complete lack of anything interesting, other than the library. Even so, Vivianne was sad to leave it. She tried not to think about that.

She wasn't hungry, and opted not to go for the food. It wasn't entirely usual for her to eat breakfast anyways. She instead looked around. There weren't many students of interest. Was she supposed to approach one of them? In this environment, when there was so much to know about the school? She felt herself aching to know every detail of its history, every significant event from years past, every top student, everything. Being in a new place like this, away from the town that she had grown up in, already knowing exactly what had led to its creation, was a very different experience. She suddenly felt herself excited, in that way that she always got when she wanted an answer to a burning question.

Instead of pestering whoever would listen with her endless questions, Viv decided to focus her energy on meeting someone. Anyone would do. She spotted a boy in the plaza, eating toast. She thought a moment about what to say, trying to not spring a billion words at once on him, before walking over, suitcase in tow.

"What's your first impression of this place?" She asked, before immediately regretting it. That was a dumb question. Still, it was a conversation that she initiated, and she was going to see it through. Even if she wasn't the best at starting conversations. Besides, she was curious if anyone got the same impression that she did.

*Zudal sits in the car, seeing the castle-like school coming into view. She was hyped as she presses her face against the window. The taxi stops at the drop-off zone, and she jumps out. She takes her suitcase and backpack from the trunk. She squeals with joy. Such a big school for her to see.

She runs with her suitcase rolling behind and her backpack bouncing on her back. She enters the plaza, looking around. She sees food begins served in the distance. She runs over to get herself some toast and bacon that wasn't even fully cooked.

She sits down on a bench next to the fountain, her hand lighting on fire and thoroughly cooking the bacon. She gets the fire to disappear as she bites down on the crispy bacon. She could tell she was going to have a great time here, despite her wild fire abilities. (Pun not intended)*

Asher

Asher was much more fascinated by the buildings and school around him then he was his breakfast. He was fascinated with the structure of the buildings, how they were built, and what secrets they held, if any. He was somewhat bored so he closed his eyes and took a deep breath to focus, he began to reach out with his mind trying to sense any electronics in the school, he couldn't tell what they were, but he could feel the gentle hum of their electricity all around him, calming him as he did. Ash yelped in surprise when he heard a voice, his eyes flying open sparking with lightning for a second before he realized that it was just another student.

Once he had regained his composure he looked the other student up and down, she appeared to be older than him, probably only by a year or two, and she certainly didn't seem threatening. Yet the only thing Asher was truly interested in was her eye color, magenta, arcane. Quickly random things he had read about the arcane flight flashed through his head, dreamers, curious, stars, magic, mysterious, energy. Her flight could potentially tell Ash alot about her, although not necessarily true. It took him a second to realize that he had just been sitting there silently staring at her in a sort of trance for the last few seconds. "Sorry," he said snapping out of it, "I was just startled, I'm Ash by the way!" he introduced himself, his voice friendly, quickly reminding himself of what she had asked. "The school, well it's big, and certainly different from what I've seen, I think it'll be cool to spend time here. What'd you think?" He said, asking her back the same question she had asked him.

“You okay?”

Marcus made a vague grunt in the affirmative, his eyes glued to the passenger-side window as their truck wound further up the mountain. At least an hour had passed ascending it, the valley below gradually becoming obscured from view by a thick blanket of clouds.

“I don’t know, man. Haven’t heard a peep out of you yet. Got nerves?”

A laugh slipped past Marcus’s lips, and he finally peeled his gaze away to his designated driver. “Nah. Just wondering how we haven’t slid back down yet.”

While he remained intent on carefully navigating to their destination, his older brother Ben scowled. “Come on! Why you gotta diss the truck.”

“Because it’s a heap of junk, no matter how many times you’ve fixed it up.” The words weren’t meant to be in any way harsh. It was just a dumb thing Marcus couldn’t help but always rib him about. After all, you’d think a mechanic’s ride would be less likely to break down as often as Ben’s did.

“Please. This beauty wouldn’t have lasted as long as it did without me.”

“You wanna bet?”

Thankfully with this, the silence which had hung over the two of them finally broke. Sure, now they were bickering like usual, but that wasn’t bad. Marcus certainly preferred it to him being left to his own thoughts. Normally, he’d be the one to start the conversation himself, but a few tiny worries had been niggling at him.

Whatever. This school was another thing to deal with like everything else. Go there, get stuff under control, and he’d be good. Nothing too hard about that, right?

They continued to chat away about, well, anything really. Little things, big things, everything except where they were headed. Marcus didn’t know whether Ben realized it was best to steer away from making him homesick already, but he appreciated it.

Of course, their drive had to eventually end, and the truck finally came to a stop. Ben regarded the stone walls with a low whistle. “Mighty fancy.” He glanced over at his brother. “Guess you’re good to go from here.”

While more of a statement than a question, Marcus answered anyway. “Yeah.”

After hefting a worn and bulging suitcase out of the back seat, he set off to the entrance with as much speed as he could muster. While he wasn’t the most thrilled to be here, Marcus couldn’t deny a certain curiosity in seeing exactly what sort of place he was stuck at. It’s not like magical schools were an everyday thing that he’d have a frame of reference for and all.

So, with that mentioned, it didn’t take much to blow him away. However, Marcus’s sense of wonder was also restricted to very simple things. This meant that while the imposing stone golems were great, they didn’t compare to his reaction upon seeing and smelling breakfast being served in the plaza. His stomach audibly growled, eliciting a sheepish grin from him. Hopefully, no one could hear that.

With the opportunity presented to him, Marcus helped himself to eggs and a large enough side of bacon that it might as well have been the entire meal. Hastened by another persistent growl of the stomach, he took his plate and searched for somewhere to sit. The fountain had a fair amount of benches nearby so that seemed to be a decent enough choice. He chose an unoccupied one and dug into his food almost immediately.

Hm. Did that girl just cook her bacon with her hand? Cheeks too stuffed with bacon and egg to say anything, Marcus could only gawk at her.

*Zudal turns around from the feeling someone behind her was watching, seeing a boy looking at her with cheeks stuffed with bacon. Did they see her toasting her bacon? Probably. She smiles at him awkwardly, turning back around to finish eating. She finishes off with some toast.

She looks around, seeing the pretty gardens in the distance near a pool. A pool. Good. She looks at the buildings behind her. They seem to be the dorms. What are they supposed to do first? Finding a dorm would be reasonable. So would an assembly to introduce them to the school and rules and stuff. Many questions filled her head as she looks around with her fiery red eyes.*

"Viv," Vivianne replied, before answering the actual question. "The walls feel cold, like a prison. That's the most notable thing to me."

She noticed Ash's eyes when he looked at her. A bright blue, though it was clearly not water. She guessed lightning. That much was interesting to her. Quick. Ambitious. Hard-working. That was the stereotype of lightning. How did Ash compare to that? She wasn't sure. She would find out soon enough, she supposed.

"It's bigger than I expected it to be. Probably bigger than my entire town. Though, I guess that's not hard."

Viv grew up in a mountain town with a population of not many. It was rare that she left it, so this was all new territory. Still, new was good. She was of that mindset. She didn't mean any of what she was saying to be negative. It was merely as she had asked Ash about, observations.

"And the general feel of it is different, even from just outside the walls. That much is hard to describe, though. Do you notice that?" She left off on a question, as she often does. That was how she kept people talking. She loved to talk, and could go on for hours if she wanted to, but people generally liked getting a chance to interject, so she asked them questions. She figured fairly quickly that she liked Ash. So, she at least wasn't going to be completely alone.

Jack tripped on a root that stuck out of the ground and fell forward with a loud "OOF!"

"Told ya we should've taken the path along the river." A voice said from the trees.

Jack lifted his head and blew the dirt from his face. "Mm hm, and clog up the stream with overgrown algae? I don't need to be responsible for creating a dam out of plants that then bursts and floods whatever is downstream of us."

"Don't flatter yourself, that would've only happened if a bear tried to attack you on the way." The bushes rustled as whatever it was moved around.

Jack laughed as he picked himself up and dusted off his kaki cargo shorts. "Well, if my influence hadn't of gotten the taxi stuck in a tangle of blueberry bushes earlier we wouldn't have to worry about bears at all."

"Don't really have to worry about it now, I see the walls of the school up ahead." The trees rustled once again.

"Really? that's great!" Jack raised a brow. "You gonna come down from there? I would actually like to see you before you stay hidden outside the school grounds after I head in."

His Cockatrice Granitespur clucked in amusement before he flew down onto Jack's shoulder. "Oh come on, its more fun to hide high up in the canopy and scare any unfortunate soul that wanders to close."

Jack rolled his eyes, "Lets save that for later shall we, after I find out if animals are even allowed."

He said a quick goodbye to Granitespur before he headed off to the castle like school. He whistled appreciatively at the tall walls and gave a deep nod to the golemns as he walked through the gate. He stretched looked around the courtyard and was both relieved and worried to see a garden. He'd have to try and keep his distance from those for a bit.
He winced, remembering that the forest had grown all the thicker around him as he'd walked to school, leaving a slightly greener swath of plant-life behind him.

He noticed a small weed peaking up by the cement path and quickly yanked it out of the ground and tossed it into a trash-can as he went towards a large fountain in the middle of the plaza. He saw a couple other students who were eating and gave a friendly, if somewhat short wave as he took off his backpack and stretched in the morning sun.
"I wonder if anyone knows when orientation starts?"

"Really? that's great!" Jack raised a brow.

"Well, here's your stop."

Ana was so excited. Not only was she starting high school, but it also happened to be the coolest high school possibly in the world.

"Hey, you okay?" Her older sister asked.

"Yeah, just a bit nervous," Ana replied truthfully.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine. Your powers are incredible, Ana," Macy said as Ana opened the door and stepped outside with her bags.

As thanks, Ana waved her hand and a few flowers came into being on Macy's lap. Macy smiled. "I brought my phone, so we can video chat anytime," Ana said with a huge grin, barely containing her excitement.

"You go, girl. Go have the time of your life," Macy said with a slightly sad smile.

"Don't worry, I'll visit on breaks. Love you Macy," Ana said as she closed the door to her sister's car. Macy drove off. Ana had been told never to use her magic, but here was the one place where she would be truly accepted. She let go of her magic as she walked up to the gates, as clovers and bright yellow dandelions sprouted to life in her wake.
