Var looked at his name on the chest. Vee Ay Arr...that spells Var. He was so excited by the chest that he didn't think of anything at first. When Midnight told him to put all his things in it he almost tripped over his own feet to get there. He looked into the chest that Midnight had opened as he was piling his treasures into his very own treasure chest.

"Var not good fighter Mr Midnight. But Var know plenty dragons can fight. They help Var once. They help again if Var ask. Var can ask if Mr Midnight think we need help?"

Midnight chuckled, "naaah. Midnight and Scratch good fighters," they had to be to survive in the Arcane lands where mutated abominations freely roamed.
He handed a battle stone with a fireball on it to his friend, "This should wurk for Var dragon. Come; we be needing something from Vermilia."
He walked over to the spellcaster, bowing slightly as he approached.
She greeted them warmly with a nod, "Welcome. What brings you to my lair corner Midnight and Var?"

"Midnight be needing a protection spell for Var dragon like you did for Midnight. We going to crystal pools and not wanting Var dragon to grow 2 heads."

Vermilia chuckled quietly and went to her bookshelf. Pulling one of the books out she flipped the pages until she found what she was looking for. "Come here for a moment Var, this won't hurt, I promise child."
She began chanting softly as Var began glowing gently, the shining golden light covering him like a second skin. Slowly the light faded and Vermilia closed her book, placing it back on the shelf. She turned to Midnight, "I have done as you requested, now you must do as I request--"

"--Yes yes," Midnight said, cutting her off, "Midnight and Var dragon gather many pink shine stones for you."

She nodded and smiled, "Good. Thank you Midnight and Var."

The spiral turned to Var, "ready Var dragon?"

"Var ready Mr Midnight. Gemgem, Scratch, is you ready too? We go find pink sparklies for Mrs Vermilia and gold sparklies for Gemgem and other sparklies for Mr Midnight and Scratch and MAYBE some for Var too!" Var looked at Gem and grinned as she spun round in a circle.

"Sparklies! Sparklies! Yayyyy!" Gem squealed and giggled as she ran the short distance to Var's side and climbed onto his back, wrapping her arms around his neck...

((Gem is sooooo cute!!))

Scratch popped his head out of one of Midnight's bags and chittered in excitement.
Midnight headed off to the very far back of the lair, Var following close behind. He came to a large boulder, the back of it coated in slime. "Ugh, Goo dragon never clean up after self," he grumbled as he slid between the boulder and the hidden entrance to the crystal pools far below, "Var dragon fit ok?"

There were a few miles of twisting tunnel to walk through until the pools. thankfully the tunnels had plenty of small glittering gems that gave enough light to see.
Midnight hissed in pain as a 3 headed rat found his foot and began viciously biting it, all heads attacking at once. "Bad ting!" Midnight chastised it before crushing it under his heel, the rat heads giving a simultaneous squeak before several bone shattering cracks and snaps.

ugh. Already the vermin were attacking.

Midnight hoped Goo wasn't in trouble.

Var squeezed his way into the gap. He felt VERY fat all of a sudden and cringed as he sucked in a breath. With his eyes closed, he pushed deeper into the tunnel. As he felt his butt pop through the hole, he opened his eyes. The sparklies were EVERYWHERE.

"Look Gemgem! Sparkles for you. Be careful now!" Gem jumped off his back and started collecting tiny pieces of all the gems she could find as Var walked behind Midnight. A 3 headed rat attacked Mr Midnight and he crushed the rat with a sickening crack. Var squeaked softly and tried to catch up with Mr Midnight.

Var hoped they would find GooeyGirl very soon. GooeyGirl shouldn't be in a place like this.

After walking for a good while they came to a rocky dead end and Midnight groaned, "Are you kidding Midnight?? Dis why Goo gone for so long?" He began moving what smaller rocks he could, pushing them to the sides of the tunnel, "Helping Midnight out Var dragon? is cave in, Goo must being trapped on other side, opening should being here...."
No wonder why that rat..er...rats? was so aggressive: it must have been starving!

Var watched Midnight for all of a minute until he realised what he needed to do.

"Goooeeeeyyyyyyy!" He called loudly "Move away from rocks!" Var waved Mr Midnight away and looked at the rocks consideringly. The biggest rock was near the bottom. That would be easy. He moved to the side of the rock pile and put his shoulder against the big rock. Being a big guy had its perks.

Var pushed against the rock hard, feeling it move just a tiny bit. He pushed sideways, rolling the rock an inch at a time, knowing the rocks above would collapse when he managed to pop it out of the tight hole...

From the other side a faint "WHAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGHGHHHGHGHGGG" could be heard, Goo trying her best to call out to Var even though she couldn't actually speak like other dragons could.

Midnight stood back, amazed at Var's strength, "woah...."
If Var wasnt such a nice guy he'd be a hell of a fighter. Visions of Var beating the ever living **** out of opponents in the colosseum passed through his head. Var could run his own lair with strength like that!
Maybe the kid just needed to be more confident in himself.


As Var continued to push the boulder several stones moved and fell away, creating a small hole.......
.....that was quickly filled by a long slimey tongue that darted around.
Midnight couldnt help but laugh, "GOO DRAGON! NO! MOVING AWAY FROM ROCKS!!!" How was ANY dragon's tongue that long?? It had to be at least half the length of her body, if not the full length!
The gooey tongue found Var's ear and lapped at it happily.....

Ew. That goo dragon was....ugh. ew.
Good thing Var liked her....

Var giggled as Goo's tongue flicked his ear. The rock shifted more and he squirmed away.

"Gooey! Need move back now! All rocks will fall now..." Var pushed the rock, watching GooeyGirl's tongue move back inside the cave. As it disappeared, Var shifted the rock again and again, the little pebbles and small rocks starting to shift downwards and topple as they loosened.
