"Maybe." Gypsis examined her claws, then bit off a hangnail.
Gytabi studied her sister for a solid five seconds. "You were trying to find me, weren't you?"
....
"You were! After all that, 'oh Gytabi don't be such a baby we'll find more loot if we split up,' speech and you got lonely, didn't you? You couldn't last a single day on your own."
"They paired me up with a Spiral. It was unbearable."
"Well, that's understandable I guess. But now we only have a 1/3 chance of winning."
Gypsis thought a moment. "While you're digging, I'll look up the remaining contestant's travel paths home. If you don't get the prize we'll just ambush whoever wins on their way back to their clan."
"That sounds reasonable." Gytabi hefted her shovel. "See ya on the other side!"

"Dragons who followed the fizzling sound accidentally stumbled into a hidden underground river feeding the Wyrmwound. I hear their scales and fur will grow back in a few weeks. ... Along with another eye or two."

The judge in that tunnel was so eager to see what awaited everyone at the very end they never even noticed they had picked up an extra dragon.

The rustling noise was nothing more than restless bats coating the ceiling. Let's hear it for these fantastic diggers. They're the best tunnelers in this year's Tournament!"

Several dragons emerged from the tunnels beneath Dragonhome disappointed over the final couple of days of the event. With so many dragons dropping out, those who were able had formed a camp together to watch and cheer on the remaining diggers.
“They should be coming out soon.” Octantis remarked. The dragons who'd dug to less than pleasant destinations had surfaced already, and were being tended to by those skilled in medicine or healing magic.
“Were we looking for something?” Faryelle asked, having been relatively unphased by what had happened on her final day.
“The centre of Sornieth?” Octantis suggested.
Sarynid said nothing. The Fae had exhausted himself conjuring bolts to clear an exit path and had been quietly resting in the days since. Octantis covered the Fae's form with a small blanket as the evening cooled, and Faryelle left Sarynid a snack within easy reach.
Faryelle stood up and looked out towards the tunnels, as some of the spectators started commenting that someone was coming out. What followed was a parade of riches, enjoyed by dragons who'd thoroughly earned their reward. Even some of those who'd fallen at the final hurdle clapped at the sight of the victory.
So another Rockbreaker's came to a close. While it was only the lucky few who had riches to carry home, no one left with nothing. The sun set on another great festival.
