Flight & Clan Structure/Positions
1-75#'s correspond to Lore Questions from Dew's (#31156) Tumblr blog.
76# and up I added myself.
Flight
1. What Flight is your clan?
Water
2. Why did they choose this Flight?
They were both Water dragons and knew they wanted to live in the Sea of a Thousand Currents.
3. Have they been loyal to other Flights before this? Or will they never move?
The Coral Reef clan is, at heart, a Water clan. They did have to relocate to the edge of the Sunbeam Ruins once when the volcano that makes their atoll was in danger of erupting. But they moved back to their beloved home once the danger had passed and have no plans to move again. (Although, I am in the Light flight (and now Earth), my clan will always be a Water clan.)
4. What would be the deciding factor in a move, if the clan had to?
Only if staying in their home caused the clan to be in mortal danger would they move. They would definitely find a place near the water, no matter what realm they found themselves in, for whatever reason.
6. How does the clan view those from different Flights? Are they welcoming to all dragons, or suspcious of newcomers?
The Coral Reef has many alliances with dragons of other flights. They welcome all who visit the Reef, whether they are looking for a permanent home or only a stopover in their journey elsewhere.
64. Do you have a clan rune?
They do have a clan symbol: A piece of coral encircled by a wave.
Clan Structure / Positions
8. Who founded the clan?
SandDune and Oceania.
9. Who is your clan leader? Why are they the leader?
Oceania is the Clan Leader. She founded the clan with SandDune and no one else has ever wanted the position. SandDune was too busy training up the clan to keep them safe to want to try and run things. He does act as an advisor along with the rest of the Coral Reef Council.
13. Does your clan have specific roles for each dragon?
Yes. All dragons that join the clan are apprenticed. They may try as many jobs as they like until they find a good fit. They may change jobs at any time as well, although if they are the only dragon currently doing a specific job, they must train a replacement.
37. What is the origin of your clan's name?
Oceania and SandDune chose to call their clan the Coral Reef clan because it described where the clan was located and they loved living on the reef.
11. Who handles interclan relations? Any diplomats? Peacekeepers?
Advisors: Myst and
River
- Myst advises Oceania mainly on matters within the Reef, whereas his younger brother River, advises mainly on matters that pertain to the clans dealings outside the Reef.
Ambassador: Maui
- Maui works as the clan's ambassador. Forging alliances with clans all over Sornieth. He helps with establishing trading agreements and travel routes and anything else that might be needed.
Counselor: Seaweed
- Seaweed is a counselor. If a dragon is having personal issues or with clanmate or with someone outside the clan, he can come and talk to Seaweed who will help him find a way to resolve the issue. If necessary, the dragon might be referred to Amazon for help mediating the dispute.
Mediator: Amazon
- Amazon is a mediator. He is called in whenever there is a dispute, both within and outside the clan. He is very good at resolving conflicts that may arise.
Flight Representatives: See #14
- The clan maintains diplomats for all 11 of the flights. This arrangement allows the clan to keep up-to-date on what is happening in the 11 realms.
12. How does your clan view the Beastclans? Who handles Beastclan relations?
The clan tries to keep peace with the Beastclans. There are liaisons for the various beastclans that work to make arrangements regarding territories, passageways, trading and whatnot. They are overseen by
River, who is advisor to Oceania and the Coral Reef Council on matters pertaining to things outside the clan.

14. Does your clan have any Flight ambassadors?
15. Does your clan have a council? An elected group of dragons in power?
Yes. The Coral Reef Council. This voluntary body of dragons help advise Oceania in the running of the clan. This ensures that nothing gets overlooked and helps keep everything running smoothly.
It is made up of Oceania and SandDune (clan founders), her sons Myst and River (Advisors), her daughter Everglades (Info specialist), all the beastclan liaisons, all the flight ambassadors, plus the Clan Ambassador Maui and Mediator Amazon. A total of 24 members.
River, Abyss and Meadow pull double duty on the council. River is an advisor and the Beastclan Liaison overseer. Abyss is the clan's Serthis liaison as well as the Shadow flight ambassador and Meadow is the clan's Dryad liaison as well as the Natuer flight ambassador.
16. Are all dragons in the clan expected to contribute in some way? Or are they left to their own devices?
It’s not mandatory, but the dragons that come to the Coral Reef clan and choose to stay tend to want to be a part of making the clan and reef the best it can be.
17. Who protects the clan? Who is in charge of battling/guarding?
One of the main policies of the Coral Reef clan is that every dragon must be fully trained. This allows the clan to live in peace as no one is dumb enough to attack a clan with over 400 fully trained dragons. SandDune is in charge of the clan's training program.
There is also a group of dragons tasked with the security of the clan and its material possessions.
MidnightWaters is head of security . . . .

20. Who does the gathering in the clan? (digging, scavenging, hunting, etc.)
All the dragons may, at times, do gathering for the clan. But there are dragons that gather as their main role in the clan.
Usually there are at least 2 dragons assigned to each discipline to ensure a wide range of goods brought in. One may work in the daytime and another may favor nighttime. The gatherers are not limited to the coral reef clans territory. Being fully trained allows them to venture out into Sornieth to bring in all manner of goods for the clans use.
Hunters: Tidestone,
Shorebreak,
Puddles,
Tron
Fishers: Islamorada,
SeaMantis,
Pixie,
Eeltide (Daytime),

Diggers: SandBar,
Isla,
Stingray,
PondSkipper
- SandBar and Isla are enthusiastic archeologists. They spend all their time digging. Their son Stingray, who was born during one of their expeditions to Dragonhome, has followed in their footsteps and has specialized as a Deep Sea archeologist. Their other son that has stayed in the reef, Kiribati, was born in the reef and decided not to pursue a digging career, but instead became one of the clan's scavengers.
Scavengers: Pipeline,
Kiribati,
SeaSalt,
Krill,
Beachcomber
- Pipeline does not view his scavenging as a job, but rather an extension of his "guarding" the reef as his charge.
General Food Gatherers: Polliwog,
SeaCucumber,
Manatee,
Catfish
- These dragons do not specialize in any particular type of food gathering, rather they focus on gathering whatever is in season of all types of food sources.

24. Do you have any artists within your clan? How do they make a living from their crafts?
The Coral Reef clan has a thriving art community. There is a
general artist, a
weaver, a
bard/storyteller, a
crafter, a
metalworker, a
kite and balloon crafter and a
toy maker. Plus, many dragons in the clan enjoy being creative as a hobby and don't specialize in any one medium.
Hibiscus Island, across from the main island in the atoll, is used by the artists in the clan, professionals and amateurs alike. There are extensive gardens and studio facilities. Pathways lead off to secluded spots for dragons that like to paint or write or work on their craft alone. And there are larger areas with easel and worktable space for dragons that prefer to work among their fellow artists. The studio facilities allow dragons to work even in inclement weather, as well as store their materials on the island.
As far as making a living, if the dragons wish to sell their work, the merchants
WaterLily and
MidnightSail, handle their work selling to clients all over Sornieth. And
Clownfish is an avid collector of local work and is always looking to add to his growing collection.

______________________
35. Does your clan specialize in anything?
Nothing in particular. The dragons in the clan tend to have many interests.
36. Does your clan stand for anything? (truth, might, knowledge, etc.)
Not really. They do like truth and knowledge and that sort of thing, but they don't have a sole focus or anything like that.
58. Do you have any sub-clans? What are they called?
Seahorse is a member of the
Eternal Autumn flight, which is found between Dragonhome and the Viridian Labyrinth. She stays part of the year in the reef and part of the year in the Acorn Canyon.
Skyboat Cloud Drift - Captained by
Dustdevil, the skyboat Cloud Drift ventures across the skies of Sornieth. Their home base is in the Sea of a Thousand Currents with the Coral Reef clan, but they rarely spend much time there. They prefer to sail across the skies seeking adventures and sometimes ferrying passengers to and from the reef.
Circus of the Abyss - The Circus of the Abyss was created by
Harlequin to fulfill her need to be a gaoler of sorts. She captures dragons she perceives as shade-touched (but it turns out they are not really) and brings them to the circus at the bottom of the sea. They cannot escape as the area outside the immediate circus grounds is pitch black and all deep crushing water. Patrolling the water around the circus air bubble is a gigantic Leviathan sea monster.
