Entry for light raffle:
A mast year is when forest plants (for sure oak trees, maybe others) produce an excessive amount of seeds
From what I remember there isn't a particular cycle and it varies based on the area, but most of the trees in the area will decide to do it together

Goldfish can see infrared radiation that is invisible to us. Bees, birds and lizards have eyes that pick up ultraviolet!

You can only see rainbows when you're facing away from the sun.

Also, owls don't have eyeballs. Think on that for a minute.
