She was a bit dismayed to see the lack luster hub and bub of the place. Normally it was so crowded and busy that one had to at times push and shove just to get through. Maybe others had the same opinion as Rokoshi that it was much too late in the day to be enjoying the festivities. The little Pearlcatcher listened to the instructions, her body all a twitter from the excitement. They needed stamps huh? Okay yeah no problem. This was gonna be easy. Once Compote turned her loose she trotted to go gather the ingredients triumphantly, raising her tail like a proud banner. Day One - A Flaming Metamorphosis

Chef: Gourmanda
Dish: Ambrosia Kebabs
Booth: The Flaming Kebab Joint
Glass Vole --> Glasswing Butterfly
The frying pan roars to life, as ceramic feverishly slashes against ceramic, in a perpetual battle between solidarity and strife. For in its glass prison lie a creature of meager flesh and bone. The fragments of glass that once encapsulated it slowly melt away, only to take on a life of its own.

Blue Honeycomb Blacktongue Pepper
Marinating charred flesh with the sweet honeycombs of life, the artisan expertly intwines finely cured slices of meat with sizzling slices of Blacktongue Pepper. Composing a delicate symphony of sweet and spice cuisine, like the most seasoned prepper.

Pebble Silkworm
Delicately placing each fragment of silkworm into the pebble grinder, the audience gazes in awe as the life cycle begins anew. Channeling the spirit of her ancestors, Gourmanda begins to sing a passioned tune: "From ashes to ashes and, from dust to dust, comes a dish renowned with purity, sanctity, and trust".

He mixed some standard flavours - berry, chocolate, mint and banana - in separate small batches and a big tub of the base so that Kakigori could add her own flavours if desired.

Ghost-Painted Fern Wetland Ghost Incorporeal Dinner

Immediately he gets the idea that grinding the shell of the wetland ghost into a fine power can be used as a thickening agent. He grabs a mortar and pestle to start on that as he considers the other ingredients. The wetland ghost doesn't have much flavour so he had so many possibilities to explore.

The incorporeal dinner was a tricky one for sure... also flavourless but the ectoplasm-esque substance of it could also be a thickening agent... and its non-existent calorific content was perfect for dragons trying to be healthy or lose weight.

Runewing considered the available stalls. What needed a lot of thickening...

Ice cream!

He'd make a healthy ice cream alternative! The incorporeal dinner did have a distinct chill to it.

He enlisted Gitana's help to freeze his concoction to get the ice cream consistency he desired.

He chopped the fern very finely to add some visual interest and natural sweetness.

The result looked very much like ice cream and although it didn't have much taste, it was the perfect base to add any flavour to. He mixed some standard flavours - berry, chocolate, mint and banana - in separate small batches and a big tub of the base so that Kakigori could add her own flavours if desired.

She had never felt so welcomed anywhere before! And now, here she was, representing the Weyr in the Mistral Meals competition! She knew it was more luck than honor, but still … Then she learned what ingredients were required for the day’s challenge and wondered about the luck that had caused her name to be selected in the day’s raffle. She was an expert at dealing with those spectral poultry, which she had swiftly gathered were too tricky for most cooks. Londinium chittered from his carrying pouch. “Of course I’ll treat you to any leftovers!” she promised the weremouse, once more thanking good fortune that the moon wasn’t full tonight. She would not have added her name to the hat if she’d’ve had to leave him behind, as they had not fully bonded yet. “Now hush, so I can concentrate!” Knowing how to treat an Incorporeal Dinner to make it edible didn’t mean is was easy to do! She closed her eyes, and called on the full strength of her Earth magic to ground the dinner into reality. She could feel her candles flickering around her, and then suddenly flare up brightly, and with a squelchy “pop” the dinner materialized in solid form, steaming with cold. Excellent! These things actually had a lot of flavor all their own, if you could just make them substantial, so she wouldn’t have to add much to make the pate she had in mind. She tossed the whole thing into the grinder, knowing the bones were soft enough to be reduced easily - unlike with a conventional Turkey Dinner - adding a stick of butter for richness, and some walnuts to remind the dinner to remain grounded. She’d have liked to add a shot from her hip flask, but alcohol would have the opposite effect, so she wasn’t going to risk it! She piled the paste into a well-oiled terrine and popped it into refrigeration to firm up, knowing it wouldn’t take long. She considered blanching the Ghost Ferns to brighten their color, but decided that a slightly faded look would be more fitting. She did blanch the Ghost Shrimp, though, just until opaque, with the molts going into a slow oven to dry and crisp. She had found a nice long charcuterie board in the supplies room, and set it on the table, and started separating fern frondlets from the main stem, eying the board to help her judge the quantity needed. She didn’t want to waste time preparing more than she’d need! Then she retrieved the terrine from the cooler and slipped a knife along the edges to ensure they wouldn’t stick. She topped it with her board and flipped it over - and the pate slid out smoothly! Phew. Then she sat down to the laborious task of pressing the fern fronds into the sides, like lacy growing grass, all the way around the outside. She had only a few pieces extra, which pleased her. Now the shrimp went across the top, overlapping like scales, in a long line down its whole length. The moulted shells she piled around the base. “Like a foamy sea…” she thought. She glanced around and then murmured a simple spell to give them just enough weight not to blow off the platter. She wanted her "Ghost Island Pate" to reach the Marva’s Munchies booth without mishap, and this WAS the Windswept Plateau, after all!

It didn't fit his image? ...Nonsense. Anything that allowed eating or drinking extra plants could not be bad. Including something wonderful like tea. Karshal brought water to a gentle boil, then split and cleaned the Incorporeal Dinner before placing it in the water, using the outer part like a bag. After removing the Wetland Ghost shells, he placed the clear flesh inside along with the Ghost-Painted Fern and Wisp Fruit, leaving everything to simmer for a while. And he thought Smoothie was bad with a blender! "I'm the guy who does drinks. You tried to make a drink without me?" "You didn't make it here in time," Kada explained with a huff, ruffling his feathers. "Its a texture experience. It asks the bold question: how much can you chew a drink, before it stops being a drink?" Wyatt refused to entertain this nonsense any longer. Two could play at this game. Remembering that Kada generally liked sweets, he found a booth that would make deserts in order to bring his revenge cake to fruition. No- not cake. Wyatt was a bean man, and he would use his talents to create revenge Tiramisu. And unlike Kada's dish, his would actually be good. With the help of Meringue, he made ladyfingers from scratch using crushed up wetland ghost and ghost painted fern. The incorporeal dinner was mostly ectoplasm in the shape of a turkey, so he whipped the substance with the egg whites and mascarpone. Then all that was left to do was set up his elaborate coffee brewing station, spend several hours brewing the perfect cup, and dip the ladyfingers inside before arranging the layers of the cake. Throw some cocoa on top, and the desert was ready. Kada always went overboard on making things elaborate with several flavors or shaped like something weird. This simple dish would be perfectly fine.

She grimaced at today's ingredients; meat was more up her ally of preparation, but something that was, well, mostly ectoplasm was a whole 'nother thing...

It took longer than it should have to think about it, but eventually she settled for a solution.

She gets some Bundle of Haunchmeatand tears them up with her claws, then throws the meaty shreds into a pre-prepared pot of boiling water.

While the meat was simmering, the mirror also deconstructs the Incorporeal Dinner, putting some slices (or globs?) of the misty semi-solid substance into the pot to act as a thickener.

The Ghost Shrimp was another challenge to overcome: They weren't really known for being flavorful either, though they were rather high in nutritional value.

She de-shelled the crustaceans, tossing their semi-transparent flesh into the pot, along with chopped Ghost-Painted Ferns for herbal factor, as well as Sweet Potato Vine, Wild Onion, and broccoli to complete a hearty, filling soup, stirring slowly.

When the soup is finally ready, she scoops some into a wooden bowl with a ladle, and, deciding to make it a bit fancy, gently sets a roasted Smolderpetalso it floats on top like a lotus, right in the center of the dish.

A bit more satisfied with the outcome this time, She carefully takes the still-steaming bowl to Ursus at the Marva's Munchies stand.

Of course, she does help herself to some of the soup afterwards- the ectoplasm thickened the soup nicely, with the fern and shrimp helping to bring an extra nutritional benefit to the sweet potato and onion, with the broccoli and haunchmeat balancing out the palate nicely.

Soup really is the wonder for making most ingredients work!
