RULES

I will be following Humdrum's Kingdomlocke Rules, with a few changes.

1. All three of my 'starter' dragons will begin with three lives, as opposed to one each.

2. I have the ability to 'Skip' a material/trinket roll with a buffer of at least four days between Skips, in a sense that I do not do a challenge for them, but I must make an art piece for the locke if I do a Skip.

3. I am putting apparel on dragons without a Tailor. A Tailor allows me to use festival, or otherwise "special" apparel on my dragons, allows me to fill more than five clothing slots, and allows me to buy items specifically for dragons as opposed to using what I have on hand.

*REASON FOR RULE 2 BEING MY OLD KINDGOMLOCKE'S ENDING. THAT WAS JUST A COMPLETE AND UTTER DISASTER.

The young dragons' eyes were on her now, silently. She let out a harrumph. "Not talkin'?" "We were just leaving," the Fae responded, grabbing the Guardian's talon and tugging it. She didn't budge, shaking her head rapidly and gazing up at the Obelisk. "I'm so sorry to intrude, ma'am. We've been lost for days, and your farm's the first sign of life we've seen." "Life, pah," the Fae spat. The Guardian glared at him. He was correct with his assertion, though. "I don't have much to offer ya," the Obelisk responded. "The soil here is dryin' up, can't grow a blade o' grass in these parts." "Please, just a place to stay the night. There's an awful storm coming," the Guardian begged. The orange Obelisk sighed- she wasn't one to turn away young'uns. "Come awn in," she eventually sighed, much to the Guardian's jubilation. "Jus' don' try ta mug me. I've got noffin' of worth in 'ere." "Thank you so, so much, ma'am," the Guardian breathed. The Fae also murmured a thanks, slipping inside behind the green and red dragon. "Say, what's your name?" "Madock," she replied, shutting the door and sidling into the house to show the newcomers the basics. "You don't look like you have names." "It's Arliin, Madock. Two 'i's." The Fae was irritable at best- a snarky little boy. All Madock could do was laugh, glancing at the tiny dragon. "You remind me of my nephew," she told him, before turning to the Guardian, who looked sheepish. "And you?" "I..." "Her name's Glue," Arliin responded. "She calls herself Glue. How weird is that?" Madock shrugged. "I've heard worse. These are your sleeping quarters." The newcomers looked into the room she'd gestured to- dusty antique furniture denoted a once-grand style of living. A few pictures on the walls depicted a grand family of Obelisks and Skydancers, faded and worn. The wallpaper peeled, and a window was cracked near a corner. "This room hasn' been used for years," Madock harrumphed. "No reas'n to keep it prim when nobody comes 'round." "Right," Arliin responded, leaping into the old but neat bed and immediately curling up. By the shape of his head frills, he was grateful- but Glue was much more obviously so, nodding to Madock with a big smile. "Thank you, ma'am." The Obelisk responded with a harrumph, turning away with a wave of her talon. "I'll get back to work. FIRST ENTRY EVER (TAKE TWO)

74036098.png80183193.png68540921.png

"Are you serious, Arliin? This place looks totally eerie! We must have gone the wrong way!"

"No," a monotone voice replied to the first. "Look. Someone still lives here. Smoke, from the chimney."

The Obelisk looked up, an ear twitching as she irritably eyed her open window. Its tattered cream drapes fluttered in the perpetual breeze, marred by two strange shadows. Other dragons, in these parts?

"We should go."

"No! Dude, you got us lost in the first place!"

"Oye! Who goes there, eh?!"

The resident of the rickety house flung her door open, rising to her full height. The clatter of the door hitting the wall was more than enough to startle the two newcomers. Just off of the stairs of her front porch, there was a shining green and red Guardian female- and a small blue and white Fae, who she seemed to be arguing with moments prior.

The young dragons' eyes were on her now, silently. She let out a harrumph. "Not talkin'?"

"We were just leaving," the Fae responded, grabbing the Guardian's talon and tugging it.

She didn't budge, shaking her head rapidly and gazing up at the Obelisk. "I'm so sorry to intrude, ma'am. We've been lost for days, and your farm's the first sign of life we've seen."

"Life, pah," the Fae spat. The Guardian glared at him.

He was correct with his assertion, though.

"I don't have much to offer ya," the Obelisk responded. "The soil here is dryin' up, can't grow a blade o' grass in these parts."

"Please, just a place to stay the night. There's an awful storm coming," the Guardian begged.

The orange Obelisk sighed- she wasn't one to turn away young'uns.

Glue the Guardian had spoken to him, regarding him with a smile. Oh, how cheery she could be. They'd encountered each other in their hometown soon before he'd decided to rebel against his family, and she'd come with. What a mistake that was. Now, they were lost in the middle of nowhere, on a dingy farm with a rude Obelisk lady. Having shelter was nice, though. He lifted his head as he realized that a scent of sausages and eggs was wafting under the door- and even though he wasn't a meat eater, he still enjoyed the smell of nice cooking. Glue detected this as well, hopping out of bed with a flick of her tongue and a bright look in her yellow eyes. "Come on," she urged Arliin. "Let's see how we can help in the kitchen!" "I hope she has mealworms," Arliin grumbled, though he gratefully hopped off behind Glue to see what old Madock was up to. Now that he wasn't so tired and worn out, he had a better look around at the house they had currently taken residence in. The pale yellow walls were cracked and peeling in some places, and the tacky wallpaper looked so distasteful it made him wrinkle his nose. Dusty pictures, shelves of trinkets, and other hung trophies decorated the dingy house, betraying that it must have belonged to a big family at some point. One item caught his eye- a small, surprisingly intact picture of five Obelisk. That thing sported more color than anything else in this house, aside from Madock, Glue, and himself. He flew up to the wood-framed picture, squinting at it. Madock was easy enough to see, a young orange Obelisk holding a gardening hoe with a big smile. A straw hat was covering her eyes, and she seemed happy. Two similarly-colored but larger Obelisks stood by her, as well as a very big red and white one. Besides the red and white one, a patchy pink and white one stood, a valiant look in his fuchsia eyes. "Hey, Arliin! Breakfast is ready!" Arliin let out an irritable chuff, flying down the hall to where he presumed the kitchen was- and was met with a delightful sight. Madock and Glue were washing some dishes in a near-pristine but mildly weathered sink, filtered sunlight sending the Guardian a-shimmer. The Obelisk flicked her tail to a vintage wooden table as she glimpsed the approaching Fae. "Have a seat. Be there in a couple." As he obliged, he noted that there were indeed some stir-fried mealworms, and a basket of moths for him. His frills were pricked happily by the time the larger dragons sat down by the table, the Fae merely sitting on his placemat due to his size. Madock gave a quick prayer to the Windsinger, then they dug in gratefully. Madock was a good cook, apparently. Maybe she had been a mother in the past, but intuition told Arliin that she'd lived with a big family at one point, and had many chances to help in the kitchen. The relative well-being of the kitchen showed how little she used it, as well- she must have been alone for a long time. "Ms. Madock," Arlin piped up, picking a moth wing out of his teeth, "What's your story? You live alone in the middle of nowhere." She lifted her head, her wizened green eyes resting on the Fae. "This be my family's farm. Everybody else died or left for their own paths. I'm here, keeping it alive the best I can." "Oh... the- the best you can?" Glue winced at her own remark. Madock sighed, putting a sausage down. "I hear you, young'un. The soil 'round here's all sucked of nutrients, no rains have come for ages and the river's dryin' up. Hardly enough water in the well for myself and some herbs out back. That, and I'm an old dragon- don't have the energy to do all the farm work most days." "Thaaaaat's why the wheat looks so... so... straggle-scraggle," Glue responded. "You know, if you'd be willing to let us stay a while... we can totally be farm-hands." "No," Arliin immediately declared. "Well- just me, then!" "Glue." Arliin glared at her- but his frills showed perplexion, not anger. He was seriously considering living here, being a lowly farm-hand. Hah! How weird was that? Madock looked between the youthful dragons. "If yous' fast learners, I'll be more than happy to house you for the help. I have food and shelter, and in return, you two help me with the farm." "Yes, of course!" Glue was invincibly optimistic- and Arliin found himself infected by her attitude, as well. He slowly nodded, much to the Guardian's chagrin. "Wonderful," Madock replied, and there was a new tenderness to her voice as she ate her sausage. However, this didn't last long, as a loud, sharp knock on the door was heard. The three dragons jumped- and Glue immediately stood up. "I'll get it," she asserted, running to the window and looking out of it by pulling a curtain back. Arliin was on edge- he was hiding beneath the table now, frills flattened and eyes wide. Another dragon, already?! But Madock had said that nobody had come around for a long time! Glue opened the door, revealing another Obelisk. A huge pink and white one, with burning fuchsia eyes- one that he'd seen in a picture, with Madock! Was this one of her family members? Madock answered his question by striding to the door, an awed look in her eye. The newcomer looked at her, recognition dawning on his face as well. "Peep?" The other Obelisk let out a chirp- then threw his talons wide. She took a step forth, and then they embraced. ----- mkay! let's see what the first roll of this silly locke will be. trinket.

"Let's see how we can help in the kitchen!"

"I hope she has mealworms," Arliin grumbled, though he gratefully hopped off behind Glue to see what old Madock was up to.

Breakfast is ready!"

Arliin let out an irritable chuff, flying down the hall to where he presumed the kitchen was- and was met with a delightful sight.

Madock and Glue were washing some dishes in a near-pristine but mildly weathered sink, filtered sunlight sending the Guardian a-shimmer. The Obelisk flicked her tail to a vintage wooden table as she glimpsed the approaching Fae.

"Have a seat. Be there in a couple."

As he obliged, he noted that there were indeed some stir-fried mealworms, and a basket of moths for him.

You live alone in the middle of nowhere."

She lifted her head, her wizened green eyes resting on the Fae. "This be my family's farm. Everybody else died or left for their own paths. I'm here, keeping it alive the best I can."

"Oh... the- the best you can?" Glue winced at her own remark.

Madock sighed, putting a sausage down. "I hear you, young'un. The soil 'round here's all sucked of nutrients, no rains have come for ages and the river's dryin' up. Hardly enough water in the well for myself and some herbs out back. That, and I'm an old dragon- don't have the energy to do all the farm work most days."

"Thaaaaat's why the wheat looks so... so... straggle-scraggle," Glue responded. "You know, if you'd be willing to let us stay a while... we can totally be farm-hands."

"No," Arliin immediately declared.

"Well- just me, then!"

"Glue." Arliin glared at her- but his frills showed perplexion, not anger. He was seriously considering living here, being a lowly farm-hand. Hah! How weird was that?

Madock looked between the youthful dragons. "If yous' fast learners, I'll be more than happy to house you for the help. I have food and shelter, and in return, you two help me with the farm."

"Yes, of course!" Glue was invincibly optimistic- and Arliin found himself infected by her attitude, as well.

"Peep?"

The other Obelisk let out a chirp- then threw his talons wide. She took a step forth, and then they embraced.

Madock and Glue waved for Peep to sit down at the table with them- which he did, gratefully devouring some eggs as if he hadn't eaten in days. Glue observed now that he seemed disheveled, piping up as Madock riffled around for a couple of pictures. "Peep... what brings you here, again? You don't look so good." The pink and white Obelisk looked at her- and now, sorrow shone in his arcane eyes. He lowered his head, his ears hanging- and let out a quiet coo. Somehow, Glue understood. He'd lost some who were near and dear to him, violently ripped away by a storm the likes of which he could never have fathomed. "I'm sorry," the Guardian replied, shaking her head. The Obelisk let out a bright twitter in response, giving her a sturdy pat on the shoulder before returning to his breakfast. Come to think of it, if he was here, too... he'd be helping on this farm as well. Suddenly, Madock's little home on the prairie would become a bountiful farm. The thought made Glue smile as she finished eating, helping Arliin to clean up as Madock chatted with Peep. ... "So... this here was my chicken coop," Madock gruffed to Arliin and Glue. She'd gone out to the back of the large, rundown house- giving them both the first proper glimpse of the property. Dusty hills rolled here and there, baking in the late morning sun. Rickety fences lined the earth as far as the eye could see, guarding patchy, dead soil- which was occasionally fettered with yellow, dying weeds. Old wooden structures slept unused and in disarray, one of the most obvious of which being the wooden house wrapped in frayed chicken wire in front of the farmer's apprentices. "Had it when I was a wee dragonet. Now, obviously, it has no chickens in it- and I'd like to get that fixed, since I have grain galore and a constant supply of eggs would be dandy. Either of you know how to build?" Arliin raised a talon, and Glue nodded with a determined look. Arliin had come from Lightning-flight origins, and had always had a knack for architecture and woodwork- and Glue, well, was Glue. Always happy to help, and happily using her strength in full. "Great. I'll need to look in the sheds for chicken wire, but you two can scavenge some wood from that watchtower over yonder," Madock ordered, pointing to one of those flimsy wooden structures they'd observed upon arrival. "Should be more than plenty to get this chicken husk back to a chicken coop. Anythin' else you need, just holler." "Yes, Madock. Thank you." Arliin hadn't finished speaking before he dove on the task at hand, scurrying around inside the rundown coop to get a look at its layout. Outside, Glue wrapped up a few final words with the Obelisk before ducking her head inside. "We'll need some two-by-twos, a four-by-four... let's see if we can find some metal to use as clamps, or maybe Madock will have some nails," Arliin waffled. "We should make sure we can find some good, sturdy wood," Glue responded, Arliin immediately agreeing and scuttling out of the coop to join her on a short flight. They glided down to the watchtower Madock had pointed out, Arliin sneezing at all of the dust. "It's really dry," he observed. "We should try and find that river that Madock was talking about." "We should. Hey, is there something off with the tower, or is it just me?" Arliin squinted down at the tower, wondering what Glue meant- but he could almost immediately see a colorful blotch of something nestled behind one of its legs. That was another dragon, and a young one at that! They looked up, a fuchsia eye shining in the light- and hid their face beneath their wing. Glue landed gently about three tail-lengths away from the watchtower, the dry soil crumbling beneath her talons. Arliin landed without a sound besides her, his cyan eyes wide and rested on the tiny dragon. "Hey... little one, are you okay?" "It's so hot here... where am I? Please don't eat me, I'm just looking for my momma..." Glue and Arliin blinked at one another, then the Guardian came towards the small dragon, holding a talon out- but not before brushing it clean of its dust. "We're not going to hurt you, I promise. We're just dragons, like you. Are you hurt?" The tiny dragon shook his head- and Arliin observed that he was a little Banescale. What was he doing out here? Maybe Peep would know- they were both Arcane-aligned. "Great. Here- let's get you inside and give you some food and water," Glue asserted. The Banescale eyed her warily, but the allure of shelter and sustenance was rather great- and so he conceded, spreading his wings and hobbling into Glue's talon. Arliin met her eyes- and she was regarding the little dragon with a tender look as she made sure he was secure in her claws and wouldn't fall. "You found him under the watchtower?" Madock was holding the little mauve Banescale in her huge talon, as if he was a little bird. He seemed to be enjoying this treatment.

"Yes, he was all dehydrated and hot- I got him some water from the well, and brought him to you." Glue and Arliin stood in front of the Obelisk.

"And you said your name was Achalendra?" Madock murmured to the young dragon, who nodded. "Acha! Lendra! That's me, but you can call me Acha, or Lendra, or Achalendra..."

"I... see. Glue, Arliin, can you two finish your jobs?"

"Wonderful," she harrumphed. "I'll take the kiddo inside and see if I know anything about him or his family, and make sure he's nice and cooled down. You two work on that coop."

"Yes, ma'am!"

...

Peep stood alone on a high hill, leaning against a broken-down fence. The dry grass itched at his talons as he was lost in thought.

This was his favorite spot, back when he was a little dragonet. After he was cursed and sent off to live on his grandmother's farm, he found it ten times harder to communicate with anyone- so he preferred to stay alone up here, looking out at the crops, the cows, and the endless blue sky. It really did feel endless up here- he felt as if it surrounded him, and at any moment, it would swallow him up like he was a bird in a windstorm.

A... bird in a windstorm.

The white and pink Obelisk stood on a high cliff, looking up at a raging storm above that was whipping at his mane. To his side, a purple Mirror was shouting to a brown Imperial with a large pearl bound at her neck via a woven reed-net. He looked down, and the Mirror was fervently beckoning to him. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the Imperial diving off of the cliff with two jade-green eggs in talon.

He followed the Mirror as she held the third and final jade egg- and then the world went dark. He was tumbling here, there, tossed in the raging wind. Items hit him, he couldn't open his eyes or fill his lungs- and then he hit the ground, and it was over.

Riane. He hoped that she was okay, wherever she was... and Collin, and the eggs.

"Excuse me."

Peep pricked up, and turned- two unfamiliar figures were in the air, a few wingbeats above him. One, a Coatl, held a crossbow, pointed between his eyes- and the other had a Plague spell in his talons, ready to fire.

The Coatl had spoken- and her voice was sickly sweet as she tilted her head.

"Take us to your clan-chief."

You guys are from the Ebbon clan, and you're here to... expropriate this farm and its assets?" "Yes," the green and orange Coatl declared with a smile on her face. Her companion, who Arliin had come to know as Yora, held up a scroll. "The mortgage hasn't been paid for decades. It's about time someone came n' put a stopper on this illegal nonsense!" "With all due respect," Madock replied, adjusting her monocle with a tired expression, "my grandparents built this place from the ground up. Land and property are rightfully ours, by law and by will." "Besides, why're you trying to- you know- take her property? What's your problem?" Glue had piped up from her side of the table. Arliin gestured for her to be quiet as Yora brought another scroll out, laying it on the table. Egon the Coatl and Yora the Pearlcatcher, were on one side of the grand dining table- Madock was facing them on the other side, flanked by Peep and Glue while Arliin and Achalendra sat on the table. Glue was rather irritated at needing her work to be interrupted, but Arliin wanted to be here to see this. Yora's scroll was a statement of rightful ownership of Madock's farm- declaring that it belonged to the Ebbon clan, stamped at the bottom with a few too many red date stamps. Arliin danced over and took the paper in his blue talons as Madock addressed Egon. "I've had no notification of this. We have no documents of a mortgage, or any other payments bound to this property." "Not just that," Arliin declared, raising a claw. "This is fake. The seal at the bottom is a self-reliant seal of Ebbon, not of the Wind Council's Property Management Division. What made you guys think you could get away with this?" "You need to check your facts," Egon snipped down at the Fae sitting on the table. "These dates are supposed to be in black, too- and you're missing four of the legal verifications that are supposed to be on this scroll," Arliin continued, rolling it up and passing it back to Yora. "Also, you're legally supposed to give immediate in-person notice when a mortgage payment is late by a month and no RSVPs are given. We should sue you." Egon narrowed her eyes poisonously at the Fae- who stood his ground, glaring back up at her with a Fae's habitually blank eyes. "Any more forged evidence for me to pick apart?" "I... don't know how you thought that would work," Yora muttered to the Coatl- and she threw her talons in the air, turning away from the table with a curse in the native Coatl language. Yora sighed, and gave the papers to Madock- who simply looked tired. "I'm very sorry, ma'am," he continued, talking over the Coatl's angry huffing. "I had no idea these documents were fake- we were under the impression that some sort of fraud was being committed." "I'd get you guys comin' by every week if it wasn't for the unique situation we've got 'round here," Madock sighed. Arliin, Glue, Peep, and Achalendra all looked at her- she sounded grim, for the first time. "I'm surprised anyone's been able to find us here- and so many at once, too." "What do you mean?" Yora, Glue, and Arliin asked at once. Peep chirped. "You'll see with time," Madock sighed again. "We have things we need to do. Egon and Yora, you're dismissed- we have free rooms, once you're back." "We won't be returning," Yora assured her ashamedly. "I'm so sorry, again!" His cry cut off as Egon yanked him out of the door and closed it. Out of the window, the pair was seen flying off, Egon griping at Yora. "They'll be back," Madock muttered. "They all come back. You show up here, and you never leave." Glue looked mildly fearful at this. "Wha- ma'am, what are you talking about?" The Obelisk had already turned away- she looked over her shoulder at the Guardian, adjusting her monocle. "Again, you'll see with time. Get back to work, all of you." Glue and Arliin stared at her with a shocked expression and a raise of frills- but they conceded, making their way back outside with more questions than answers on their tongues. ----- let's go. first, let's roll for achalendra. 5-- he lives! hooray! now. hi, pinky! give us something that doesn't involve us getting more dragons! kidding. please give us levels though. an iris. that's plant food, which is... 10-20 matches. heheh, good enough for me! pinky listened!!.... ominously....!!! ....... things are about to go so wrong, i can feel it.
