GODLOCKE
-- a coli-based nuzlocke challenge --

Setting up some 'locke rules mainly for my own use, but if you want to give it a try then by all means do! You can change whatever you want about the rules, no need to ask permission.

Given that this is new and untested, it may be a biiiit unbalanced. I'll tweak things as I play (hopefully)!

How long have you wandered this land? Weeks? Years? Millenia? Everything changes except yourself. You watch through weary eyes as dragons come and go. What are you, watcher? Who are you?

And are you content to only observe as the lives of dragons come and go... or will you interfere? Help? Hinder? It's your choice. But whatever you do, the consequences will mark history in ways even you cannot anticipate.

~ ~ ~

The godlocke is a nuzlocke challenge in which your starter dragon (usually also your POV dragon) is an immortal being. What kind of being is entirely up to you -- god, demigod, demon, spirit, vampire... whatever they are, they've been around for a while, and something has finally convinced them to take action.

Will they build a clan around themself to nurture... or demand worship from? Will they watch with amusement as those around them suffer? Or will they simply try to make it in this harsh world, and find meaning in eternity? That's all up to you to decide. :D

Your starter dragon cannot die. Sadly, the same cannot be said for any dragon that decides to tag along with them...

This challenge is intended to be a moderate difficulty lorelocke with no ending. Because one of your dragons cannot die, it goes on as long as you feel like playing it!

The godlocke is my attempt to make an engaging nuzlocke challenge that doesn't make use of pinkerton, and gives you greater control by having certain events -- such as breedings, and dragons joining your clan -- determined by your choice rather than random events.

This type of nuzlocke makes heavy use of the coliseum to drive the plot. The coliseum brings great risk, but also great reward. You track all the coli loot you acquire, and choose whether to keep it for use by your clan, OR to liquidate the items for their hoard-sell value. You can use the treasure you get from liquidation to gain new clan-members and outfit them with gear.

The godlocke is designed to be compartmentalised and low-pressure. There's no need for it to have any impact on your main clan; once properly established, you won't even need to dip into your account's savings to purchase things for your dragons, because the whole 'locke will be funded by what they find in the coli.

BASIC MECHANICS

Turns
This challenge operates on a turn system rather than relying on actual days passing -- which means you can play multiple turns in one day, or you can not play at all for weeks and it won't matter or make a difference. Low pressure!

However, the reliance on turns does mean you need to track a lot of things independently from the site's functions: hunger, age, breeding cooldowns (though the last one shouldn't be much of a problem considering the 'locke's breeding rules, aha). You can use a thread for this, or alternately you might want to consider using a spreadsheet.

It's intended that you write one lore entry per turn that passes, but there's no lore police so just kinda do what feels right to you.

Getting started
Create a tab in your lair for your godlocke and choose a dragon to be your immortal. If you can't decide, feel free to use a random number generator to choose things like breed and gender for you, then just grab one off the AH!

You only get one starter dragon. They must be level 1.

Create a thread or spreadsheet to track your progress.

That's it! You're ready to go!

Food
One of the challenges of the godlocke is to keep your growing clan fed.

Food cannot be gathered. It must be acquired via the coli.

Each dragon needs to eat 10 food per turn (easy mode: 5 food per turn), and can survive up to three turns without food. Once a dragon reaches 30/10 hunger, it's dead. Exalt.

I recommend tracking your food stores separately from whatever food you actually have associated with your account, unless you've decided to go all-in and play the godlocke with your whole lair (which like, props to you if you do, madlad).

It's up to you whether or not your immortal eats. Either way, they can't die from starvation.

Coliseum and liquidation
The coliseum is the core of the godlocke. It determines what resources your clan has, and can kill them as easily as it sustains them.

The basic concept is this: you track the loot you get from each battle. For each item, decide whether to keep it for the clan, or liquidate it for its hoard-sale value. Liquidation of high-value items rather than using them may make things more difficult in the short term, but can pay off in the long-term as you use your amassed wealth to buy resources and new dragons.

Unhatched eggs are valued at 50,000 treasure within the rules of the godlocke. (Of course, if you'd rather hatch, you are free to do so...).

Dragons cannot train in a venue lower than their level. However, they can grind in lower level venues in which they receive no XP.

[Optional] Each dragon has a limit of 50 battles per turn. You can maximise loot by sending out smaller teams, but that, of course, means greater risk...

Liquidating food
If you find yourself with an excess of food, or just need a bit more treasure, you can liquidate some of your food supply for 5t per food point.

Coliseum death rules
Easy: each dragon has three lives. If it faints in the coliseum for a third time, it's dead. Exalt.

Normal: if a dragon faints in the coliseum, flip a coin. On tails, it's dead. Exalt.

Normal (alt): each dragon has two lives. If it faints in the coliseum for a second time, it's dead. Exalt.

Hard: if a dragon faints in the coliseum, it's dead. Exalt.

Familiars
Familiars can be given to dragons to give them an extra life -- that is, if they would die, the familiar dies in their place.

Familiars can only be obtained via the coliseum.

When a dragon with a familiar faints in the coliseum when playing on normal difficulty, you must decide BEFORE you roll for their survival whether or not their familiar will take their place. If you decide to sacrifice the familiar, it always dies. Choose carefully. c;

Level 25s
Once a non-immortal dragon reaches level 25, it has officially survived and retires from your godlocke. It may breed one last time as part of the clan, and may remain as part of the clan's lore. It can no longer be used in the coliseum, nor does it need to be fed (so for all intents and purposes, the dragon can no longer be killed either). Level 25s no longer count towards your dragon total (and therefore don't increase the cost of buying new dragons).

Goal / victory conditions
The godlocke has no solid goal except for your clan to survive and prosper. The basic goal for most godlockes is to get dragons to level 25 -- if you're like me, you'll just play to see how many you can get!

But you can choose your own victory conditions if you want! For example, you could have it so a certain amount of dragons must reach level 25 for you to win. Or you could have a lore-related goal. It's up to you!

DRAGON ACQUISITION

Buying dragons
Buying dragons is the main way you will acquire them in the godlocke. You buy dragons using funds you have gained through the liquidation of coli loot.

The price of buying a new dragon increases with the size of your clan.

Easy: +1,000t per dragon
Normal: +2,000t per dragon
Hard: +3,000t per dragon

For example, if I only have one dragon in my clan and I am playing on normal, I have to pay 2,000t out of my godlocke clan's hoard to acquire one. If I'm playing on normal and have three dragons in my clan, I have to pay 6,000t (2,000t x 3).

When buying a dragon, use a randomiser (1-19) to choose which breed it will be.

1. Aberration
2. Banescale
3. Bogsneak
4. Coatl
5. Fae
6. Gaoler
7. Guardian
8. Imperial
9. Mirror
10. Nocturne
11. Obelisk
12. Pearlcatcher
13. Ridgeback
14. Skydancer
15. Snapper
16. Spiral
17. Tundra
18. Veilspun
19. Wildclaw

All new dragons must be level 1.

[Optional] Generate a random number between 1-3. This will indicate how many genes your new dragon will have; e.g. if I get a 2, my new dragon must have two genes and one basic.

Breeding dragons
Dragons can breed only twice in their lifetimes.

They can breed once when they reach level 15, and once when they reach level 25.

Dragons don't have to breed right away once they reach a coli milestone; you can hold off breeding until you want to.

For each hatchling, flip a coin. If it's heads, the dragon will stay in the clan on reaching maturity. If tails, the dragon will decide to leave once grown (but you still must care for and feed it until it reaches adulthood).
