It took a long while to find this place, tucked away among the ruins. It has a fantastic view across the Forum of the Obscured Crescent, the uneven stone steps descending into the depths only meters away from you. In the distance, Wispwillow mushrooms light up the horizon with a gentle blue glow. A coatl is sitting at the edge of the drop, splattering paint across a precarious easel. He hums to himself as he works, leaning in to squint as he fills in the details.
It takes him about an hour to notice you, looking up in surprise. “Oh, sorry! I’ve been in the zone, as it were. I’m sure you’d give me an earful if you had a mouth.” He tucks his paintbrush behind his ear, splattering yellow paint across his feathers. “You’re not the only shadow missing your dragon, you know. An awful lot of you have run off recently. No, no, I don’t blame you, but I can help you! If you mix me some paint, I’ll be able to paint the patterns back on your silhouette. You’ll be yourself again in no time.”
---
Okay, that should be everything! You wind your way back to Vincent’s alcove, proudly presenting your finds. He studies every item carefully before giving a solemn nod. “Very resourceful. I’ll see what I can do with these,” he pokes a bug with trepidation. “Just wait there, alright?”
It looks like he’s tried to paint the clearing with all the mess a few pitchers of paint have made. You’re surprised he’s managed to keep any paint contained at all. He calls you back over when he has seven jugs ready, straightening up proudly. “I bet you’re excited, right? After all, you’re about to be painted by an expert! Only…” He pauses guiltily.
“I hate to throw this at you out of the blue, but this really isn’t a lot. I’m going to need more if I’m going to paint you back to life. I might even need to combine a few - how about that? Oh come on, it’s not much to ask, I’m doing you a big favour.”

You storm off, fuming. A whole new list! All your hard work for nothing! You contemplate leaving Vincent to his art and finding another solution, but you foresee it taking a while. Ah well, start at the beginning. Silver and blue. Not too alien for the Wood, right?

Gold and bronze are basically the same thing. Bronze is just a bit dirtier. Maybe if you were a blacksmith you’d care, but you’re sure Vincent is just being pretentious. Nothing you find is made of metal, but he’ll just have to cope.

Green and yellow are common enough if you live in the Labyrinth. But who lives in the Labyrinth? Java sparrows, maybe a daisy or two. You’ll just have to make do. You stumble on a wasp nest and some handy green embers - green embers are normal, right? You’re in too much of a rush to care.

Pink and purple. Why does Vincent even need pink? You’re sure you didn’t have any pink on you when you were a dragon. You’ll play along just because you don’t want to be sent out again, but you’ll make sure he knows you’re not happy about it. If there’s anything shadows are good at, it’s silent sulking.

Orange and yellow are sunset colours. It’s a shame you can’t bring back a sunset, but there must be alternatives around here somewhere. You wander around until you find a sleazy hooded wildclaw selling unicorn dust. Will Vincent care if it’s real or not? He’ll just have to live with it.
