I can't tell if Pinkerton is mocking me or being sympathetic haha. [b]Roll for a challenge: 8. The Plague! A great sickness comes over your entire clan. Roll a 1d12 for every dragon including your royal. On a 1 the dragon does not survive or loses a life.[/b] Nihmedu: 7 Mitch: 12 Nareena: 9 ------------------------ [b][u]Prismacolor Palace[/b][/u] Nihmedu pursed her lip out, examining the new palace she had recently moved into. Within the two days she was living at the kingdom, leadership had changed twice. Now, the throne belongs to her. She climbed the ranks so quickly; the Nocturne never expected this day would arrive so fast, let alone arrive at all. One thing that she noticed about the kingdom was how unkempt and musty it was. She couldn't rule in such a pigsty, and there is no way she can stay here without going dizzy and growing increasingly irate. That must be what was causing Laudwine to be so sickly. Two days before, she was happily prancing around and trying to get everything. Now, however...she looked so ill. Her previously slick pelt had grown coarse—mainly due to how no one knew how to tend to a Tundra hatchling. Laudwine seemed oddly lethargic—it had reached to a point where she would refuse to eat. Nihmedu watched the purple Tundra intently during the day, but alas, her condition only worsened. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] Laudwine, darling, how are you feeling now..?[/i] The Tundra merely whined in response, prodding a paw at the makeshift nest that Nihmedu made out of some unhung curtains she spotted in a closet. Blinking slowly, the Nocturne nodded at the young child. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] I'm...I'm so sorry, darling. I have no clue what to do. I'm trying my best to help you.[/i] Upon completing her statement, the Nocturne curled up next to the hatchling, who promptly pressed her miniature body against her scales. She shivered violently upon her body contacting the adult, her fur beginning to prickle. Eventually, Laudwine craned her head up, examining the adult she had huddled up with. Nihmedu attempted to maintain her focus on something else...something to avoid overthinking this predicament. Suddenly, a squeak began to sound. [i][b]Laudwine:[/b] Mama...a story? Please?[/i] Nihmedu's gaze abruptly snapped to the hatchling, her eyes widening out of surprise. This was the first time she heard her speak—and these words hit her like a brick. She didn't think the hatchling considered her to be a mother; Nihmedu always thought she was quite terrible with children. Forcing herself to maintain her stoic demeanor, Nihmedu took a moment to recollect her thoughts. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] Of—of course, my little wyrm. I think I have the perfect one for you.[/i] Nihmedu craned her head up, glancing around the dimly lit room. She may have not known the first patriarch well, but she understood how big of an impact she had on the ragtag team of denizens she had joined. Not an ideal storytelling choice...but she will have to settle with what she had. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] Ahm...so...once, there was a queen. A lesser known queen—but a queen with her kingdom's best interests at heart. And—and one day, one of her closest friends was a sailor who was—had a terrible accident who hurt him, but he was too prideful to admit it.[/i] Nihmedu's gaze shifted to the hatchling, who eyed her intently with awe. The Nocturne managed to offer the hatchling a warm smile. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] So, one day, he ran away to find a powerful foe to defeat, and the queen was left with a really bad cold. She was truly worried that he would get hurt. So, she ran away when no one was looking, and—and went on an adventure—a huge adventure where she...she...[/i] Nihmedu allowed her voice to crack as soon as she felt the hatchling grow limp. Laudwine no longer pressed against her body, and her head slowly lowered to the ground. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] She...lived happily ever after...and shared it with the friends she made along the...way.[/i] Nihmedu craned her head closer to the hatchling, gently nudging her side. Laudwine was gone, and so was Nihmedu's willpower. However, Darkhead was exalted via the plague immediately after I summoned her lol • Many levels were earned! So many, Glitter and Glitter II have careers! While Nihmedu still appeared her usual stoic self, Glitter was visibly frazzled. The death of his closest denmate—his brother—was still fresh on his mind, and Nihmedu didn't even bat an eye. Did she even care? Before Nihmedu could enter her palace, Glitter caught her attention with a rough tap on her spine. She contorted her neck so that she could stare at her fellow Nocturne, who's tears stung at his eyes. [i][b]Glitter:[/b] You...you made my denmate die![/i] Nihmedu cocked an eyebrow at his exclamation, turning the rest of her body to face him. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] Mmm? You surely cannot blame me for what fate had in store.[/i] [i][b]Glitter:[/b] Well, you—you knew he had trouble fighting alone! Those centaurs, they—they ganged up on him. You know how prideful he is, and that he didn't back down for any challenges. You should have commanded us to retreat right then![/i] [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] I am fully aware of that. It is not my fault your brother got killed; you cannot blame me for that. Just like our foes, your brother's weaknesses happened to be his downfall.[/i] Glitter widened his eyes at the queen. He felt shock, disbelief, and then all of these feelings slowly melted into anger. [i][b]Glitter:[/b] Are you...are you calling us weak?![/i] [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] No, all that I'm—[/i] [i][b]Glitter:[/b] I don't want to hear it! You know what? I want a duel![/i] Nihmedu blinked slowly at his demand, merely offering a coy smile in return. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] A duel, hm? Alright, we can do that. What are the stakes?[/i] [i][b]Glitter:[/b] If I win, you give me your scepter and get banished. If I do, I will remain loyal to you.[/i] [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] Very well. Tomorrow, at dawn. That way, you can clear your head.[/i] ----------------------- [b][u] Training Fields[/b][/u] Nihmedu found a perfect area to duel on the outskirts of the Training Fields. It was open, and yet lacked the pests the area had to offer. She craned her head up, scanning the area intently whilst her lips pursed out. Glitter, her opponent, stood across from her, blinking slowly whilst he intently watched her. As soon she ensured the coast was clear, she straightened her posture up, offering her foe a smile—which he scowled at in return. Finally, with a nonverbal cue, the two nodded at each other to signal they were ready. Just afterwards, Glitter charged at Nihmedu, howling in rage as he did so. Nihmedu swiftly dodged him, hopping at his side before attempting to push him. This prompted Glitter to roughly push her down and clamber on top of her, pinning her down with difficulty. His claws clung against her scales, prompting her to grunt out of pain. She examined Glitter's face, which brandished a glistening grin the harder he clung to her. Just then, she realized that he was truly trying to kill her. This prompted her to scowl whilst she looked quickly—desperately for a weak spot...until she finally spotted one. She lifted her claws up and blindly clawed at his face. He abruptly howled in pain, releasing the queen from his grasp whilst he lifted his palm to cover up his injury. He then moved his palm to his face, examining the dark red liquid oozing onto it. His face stung; she hit him really hard. As soon as he noticed the queen beginning to make her way back towards him, he tensed up. [i][b]Glitter:[/b] No, no, stop! I concede! You win![/i] At his exclamation, Nihmedu batted her eyelids, halting herself in front of the cobalt Nocturne. The injury she gave him was deep—it is definitely going to scar over. Whilst she examined the shocked Glitter, Nihmedu cocked her head and let out a huff. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] Let that be a valuable lesson, and a humbling one at that.[/i] Glitter abruptly turned his head away out of shame, brandishing a scowl as he did so. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] You cannot just fight purely out of bitterness. That just makes you fight blindly. Don't just focus on your anger.[/i] [i][b]Glitter:[/b] I...Ahm...[/i] [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] You should have been more resentful to your enemies when it came to Glitter II's death. However, you cannot fight on spite alone. Come along, why don't we fight some worthy foes and I could give you some pointers?[/i] Glitter tentatively nodded in response, heaving out a labored exhale whilst he stood up and began to follow Nihmedu. Glitter surely had been humbled, alright...or so she thought. ------------------------ [b][u] Scorched Forest[/b][/u] He was ignorant. He was just far too ignorant. No matter how much she coached him, Glitter just wouldn't listen. He was just so enraged and bitter. There was no getting through to him. Nihmedu heaved out an exhale, staring down at the limp body in front of her. Her eyes narrowed at him, visibly displeased at his work. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] Why...why are you so stubborn? You knew how strong the centaurfolk were.[/i] Glitter only stared blankly at the queen, his breathing growing more labored. He was ashamed of himself, and yet, he didn't want to admit it. He tried to push himself back up, only to fall again. Nihmedu heaved out an exhale, patting a hand against the downed Nocturne's now desecrated armor. He never even got the chance to practice his alchemy. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] Remember what I said about weaknesses being someone's downfall? Your ignorance to my help was. If you were saying that you would remain loyal, why wouldn't you commit to it?[/i] Glitter opened his mouth to speak, only to halt in cringe at the searing pain traveling across his body. [i][b]Nihmedu:[/b] There is no going back now. No one can treat your injuries. Don't worry, friend, I will give you the blessing of a quick and painless death. You don't have to suffer anymore.[/i] Before Glitter could reply, Nihmedu lifted up her claws...and she struck. ------------------------ Nihmedu and Glitter have traversed 30 different paths in the Scorched Forest. Nihmedu returns alone, burnt out and exhausted.
