TOPIC | [Pinkerlocke] Tangled in Brambles
- Tangled in Brambles -
A Pinkerlocke

Marrow and Zoran left their clan to explore the Tangled Woods, but after a long day of adventuring, they don't remember how to get home. While scavenging, they find a Nocturne egg and watch over it. The egg hatches after they set up camp, and they name the hatchling Cabrito. Now, the three of them must navigate the brambles and woods to make their way back to their clan. Who will they meet? What foes will they fight? Where will they go? Will they ever reach home?

Cabrito's Clauses:
- Cabrito cannot be bred or killed.
- Any event that would otherwise kill Cabrito (coliseum death, death streak, etc.) will instead kill a randomly selected dragon in the party. If Cabrito is the only remaining dragon, he is knocked out.
- Sudden death occurs if Cabrito is the only living party member.
- Sudden death is resolved by finding another dragon or Cabrito being knocked out.
- If Cabrito is knocked out, the Pinkerlocke is over.

Win Condition: Cabrito must reach level 25. The game may be successfully concluded at any time afterward, and all level 25 dragons may return to the main lair.
Pinkerton's Pile:

Food: Coliseum
Choose dragons and a venue. Fleeing is allowed at any time, and the team and venue may be changed before returning to the coliseum. Disconnecting and refreshing are not allowed. Potions may be freely used and do not need to be obtained through the Pinkerlocke. Eggs found in the coliseum immediately act as a familiar pull, but the dragon purchased must be under 24 hours old. Apparel, battle stones, familiars found in the coliseum may be freely equipped.
- Plant: 10-20 rounds
- Insects: 20-30 rounds
- Seafood: 30-40 rounds
- Meat: 40-50 rounds

Material: Apparel
A dragon will be randomly selected to receive a piece of apparel. Apparel does not need to be obtained through the Pinkerlocke. If all apparel slots are filled, a new dragon is selected. If all dragons have filled apparel slots, treat this pull as a trinket.

Trinket: Memories
Flip a coin. If heads, an old memory is recalled. If tails, a present event becomes a new memory. There may be bits of writing with each post, but trinket pulls should have longer writings.

Familiar: New Dragon
Randomly select a modern breed, and buy the cheapest available dragon off the auction house. Give the familiar to the dragon.
1. Fae
2. Guardian
3. Mirror
4. Pearlcatcher
5. Ridgeback
6. Tundra
7. Spiral
8. Imperial
9. Snapper
10. Wildclaw
11. Nocturne
12. Coatl
13. Skydancer
14. Bogsneak
15. Obelisk

Apparel: Breed
Choose two dragons to breed. Flip a coin for each hatched egg. If heads, the hatchling lives. If tails, the hatchling dies. If no dragons can breed, treat this as a familiar pull with the addition that the purchased dragon must be under 24 hours old. Apparel found this way must be equipped to one of the hatchlings after reaching adulthood.

Battle Items: Death Streak
Flip a coin. If heads, randomly select three dragons and enter the coliseum venue that correlates to the highest leveled dragon. Fleeing is not allowed. This death streak is over after ten rounds or after a dragon dies, whichever comes first. If the coin lands on tails, roll a d6 for each dragon in the party. Any dragon the rolls a 1 dies. If a dragon that rolls a 1 is currently nesting, it will be exalted after the eggs hatch but be considered dead that day. Battle stones found this way may be freely equipped.

I guess it wouldn't hurt if I typed stuff here for now...

- I started this partially as a way to actually work on lore/backstories and writing in general while doing a challenge.
- SkellieTheRedd's Augmented Pinkerlocke was the first Pinkerlocke I actually got invested into reading (if you see this, hiiii! lol). Totally didn't find it because we were both on this thread.
- I'd probably end up using the first reserved post for an affiliate's list? That's the only thing I can really think of at the moment. Not sure about the second reserved post.
- Marrow has a really funny wingspan-to-length ratio.
- I swear the day seven roll is legit. I used a d6 from a dice set I purchased recently, and I guess that was it's way of saying thanks for buying me?

"Marrow! The egg! It's hatching!" "Oh shoot, already?" "I told you it wasn't far from hatching when we found it!" The muffled voices grew clearer as bits of light peered through the newly formed cracks tracing the surrounding shell. With each jolt within the egg, the cracks split and spread, running down the hard surface. Then a golden head burst through the top, followed by wings dripping wet and two little arms. The hatchling opened his eyes and took in the world as he clambered out of what remained of the egg. He had strange eyes. They were a brilliant blue, clearly of lighting, but with horizontal pupils like a goat. The hatchling silently turned towards the two dragons. One of the dragons was long and bright with short grey wings and skeletal markings. He was also holding something round and shiny. The other was dark grey with deep purple wings, and his body took on a more familiar shape. Neither the bright one nor the dark one was his parent, he reasoned. Neither of the males seemed to be related to him at all, but they closely watched him with curious yet concerned eyes. Too much thinking. He had better things to do, like gnawing on the end of his tail. "We should name him," the darker one spoke, "but I'm not sure what. I've never been very good at thi-" "Cabrito." The bright one quickly replied, staring at the newly born dragon. "Why yes, roasted goat kid. Of course." "Do you have a better idea?" The hatchling watched as the grey dragon furrowed his brows. No longer focused on his tail, he tried to match the older dragon's expression. The bright dragon's snickering broke the grey dragon's concentration. "Cabrito." "What do you want," he rhetorically asked. As if the hatchling would answer. The kid looked at him and bleated. "Cabrito it is," the dark dragon sighed in defeat. "Well, we should clean him off and then rest for the night. Good thing he hatched after we set up the campsite." "Cabrito!" Cabrito let out a yawn and stretched his wings. He was tired. He curled around himself, ignoring the bright dragon advancing towards him. He was carrying a few large leaves to wipe down the still damp hatchling. He wasn't going to lick him clean, that was for certain. Cabrito opened one eye as the pink dragon- "CABRITO!" Marrow called out and poked the entranced Nocturne. It was dark, or at least much darker than it was during the day. The nightfall had brought another storm with it. Cabrito didn't pay mind to the rain on his scales. He was too focused on the skies. The stars, while pretty, didn't hold a candle to the intricate lines of lightning that tore through the heavens. He hadn't seen lightning before, but watching and then hearing the responding thunder put him at ease. This wasn't the unknown booming cacophony that terrorized his former self, but a playful duet of light and sound for all to see and hear. Marrow's unexpected touch, which aligned with the next crack of thunder, made Cabrito flinch. He blinked and looked at Marrow. "It's late, and you're soaking wet. You should really get some rest." Cabrito took one last glance at the sky, and another bolt of lightning arced past the stars. "Yeah, you're right," he softly responded. They trotted back to the shelter, shook off the water, and walked inside. Thunder was nothing to be afraid of, Cabrito reasoned. The storm of wet, light, and sound always brought a new sunny day. It's like hatching from an egg. ----- Back | Next -----

"Marrow! The egg! It's hatching!"

"Oh shoot, already?"

"I told you it wasn't far from hatching when we found it!"

The muffled voices grew clearer as bits of light peered through the newly formed cracks tracing the surrounding shell.

I've never been very good at thi-"

"Cabrito." The bright one quickly replied, staring at the newly born dragon.

"Why yes, roasted goat kid. Of course."

"Do you have a better idea?"

The hatchling watched as the grey dragon furrowed his brows. No longer focused on his tail, he tried to match the older dragon's expression. The bright dragon's snickering broke the grey dragon's concentration.

"Cabrito."

"What do you want," he rhetorically asked. As if the hatchling would answer.

The kid looked at him and bleated.

"Cabrito it is," the dark dragon sighed in defeat. "Well, we should clean him off and then rest for the night. Good thing he hatched after we set up the campsite."

"Cabrito!"

Cabrito let out a yawn and stretched his wings. He was tired. He curled around himself, ignoring the bright dragon advancing towards him. He was carrying a few large leaves to wipe down the still damp hatchling. He wasn't going to lick him clean, that was for certain. Cabrito opened one eye as the pink dragon-

"CABRITO!"

Marrow called out and poked the entranced Nocturne.

You should really get some rest."

Cabrito took one last glance at the sky, and another bolt of lightning arced past the stars.

"Yeah, you're right," he softly responded. They trotted back to the shelter, shook off the water, and walked inside. Thunder was nothing to be afraid of, Cabrito reasoned. The storm of wet, light, and sound always brought a new sunny day. It's like hatching from an egg.
