Despite all of those talents, though, there was one thing that Avis just couldn't connect with: Wind magic itself. Avis' tutors encouraged them endlessly, it seemed, but nothing quite seemed to stick. Some preached intuition and creativity, but the little Coatl just couldn't figure out how they'd done their clever castings. And some recommended studying magic principles and mechanics; Avis fled those lessons as quickly as possible, lest they be locked away with dry, dull books until they perished of boredom. A couple of times, a teacher tried to encourage reflexive magic by tossing something fragile for Avis to intercept, but that experiment always ended in regret. It seemed that the only Wind magic Avis could manage was just the littlest wisps of breeze, and that was... not particularly useful.

His bird appeared to listen, what shock!

Lief is a member of the subset of border patrol that deals with non-dragon living migrants (colloquially known as pollen eaters or pollen patrol, because official names are boring). Windies are uniquely positioned to know just how far and fast airborne seeds can spread, and living in the centerpoint of Sornieth's major air currents, especially around the Twisting Crescendo, they take it more seriously than most non-Windies imagine. Pollen eaters constantly patrol their assigned territories, vigilant for any trace of invasive plant (or insect) life and quick to take action to remove it before it can damage the local ecosystem.

Spirals are one of my favorite breeds (and also native to the Wind flight!)!
I think that the Capsule tert with the Butterfly secondary work well together with the colors. The Butterfly secondary was a gift from the Windsinger, wings of a butterfly to help him float along the wind and speedily chart the lands while delivering messages.
Mint Pinstripe is super pretty and reminds me of racing stripes, which further adds to the speedy effect!
I'd like to think that in a really weird way he stores information in the capsule part of his body, he doesn't store physical materials in there, but the charting information that he brings back to the Windsinger gets stored up there like a biological computer. So once his capsule fills up he knows it's time to head back home!

Skydancer - I feel that they're more of the calm and collected type, and as a Wind Dragon enjoy being in the sky; the Skydancer breed is a perfect option for that, I think.
Iridescent - I get the feeling that they're more of a 'basic' type of Dragon who still enjoys a hint of color, someone who enjoys the simple things; Iridescent is a nice choice for this since Mint Iri adds just a hint of green - which I think might be a favorite color of theirs... - while still being relatively simple all around, and matches well with the other colors.
Paint - Again, something simple which they might appreciate, and yet adds an almost sky-like esque theme to them, as Paint is a nice reminder of clouds, like looking at the sky through a canopy of trees; it's especially nice on Skydancers as well, as there's the secondary green on the feathers.
Capsule - While this is a bit more complex then the other two genes, the way Marigold's secondary green really matches well with the green of the previous two; not to mention the hint of gold adds just a nice 'sunset over a forest' type feel, like sun against a running river, and they might again like the green accent color.
(Bonus: I also included both poses since they might prefer one over the other or just like both? IDK I just thought they might like it, but it's more of my 'own personal headcanon' type of thing like... most of this, actually lol)

The names of dragons in my clan come from many different places; some refer to a dragon's profession, others to their place of origin, their personality, or their worst vice...
I have chosen Arrow for this lovely boy because I think it fits both his appearance (sleek, aerodynamic, and arguably a bit pointy) and his planned personality (which I will elaborate more on in the future). It also sounds like the word Aero, which seems a much more obvious name for a Wind-Dragon... But sometimes it's more fun to turn expectations on their heads; that's what Arrow here would tell you!

Ooh, this one's a toughie - I've never been good at names!
Though I'm currently thinking of the name Century! As the genes I came up with made my scry look quite robotic, I kept thinking that he'd be a sentry of some sort, but I think naming him Sentry directly wouldn't work, but Century works a bit more as it alludes to it without it just being a job title. Also, robots live a long time, so it could also be a reference to his longevity - a century or more old!

Kazephero is the clan's avian expert, and his outfit reflects this!
He started out with a bird-watching hobby, content with seeing and cataloging all the different birds that migrated through Wind flight territory, but it developed into a deeper appreciation and fondness for birds.
One day he found an injured Paunchy Green Percher and decided to raise it back into good health so it could rejoin its flock. This resulted in a big shift from simply watching birds to caring for them, as he quickly gained a reputation for the matter among both dragons and apparently birds, as the same Green Percher visits him every year at the migratory season.
Kazephero's feathery apparel, such as the Wavespun Feathered Wings and Tail Feathers, helps put his avian companions at ease, since none of the feathered dragon species hunt birds. It also helps him communicate better with them. The additional feathers can help convey posturing and other factors that birds use in their social behaviors.
He finds his Bamboo Breeze Cape to be an incredibly comforting piece, both in terms of being physically comfortable to wear, and the effect it has around him. The bells jingle like a gentle wind chime whenever he moves, announcing his presence without startling. Considering how often he sits very still, slightly obscured in anything from bamboo to bushes to watch the birds, it's convenient and just good courtesy to not completely spook anyone with sudden movement. If you ever hear what sounds like a wind chime stuck in a tree, Kazephero might be up there.
The jewelry on his wrists and ankles are thanks to the Brown Skypost Sandals. These bracelets and anklets are important to him as they contain a little bit of Wind magic inside of them. He feels more connected to his element in this way, especially given that Wind can be a little alienating as a coatl, since constant strong gusts carry away the sound of a coatl's native hum far easier than a common draconic voice. The birds appreciate his hum as a sort of song all his own, and the crystals on his jewelry spark and reverberate ever so subtly as he does.

Argy's familiar is a Tradewinds Gull named Rune, for the item the two were fighting over when they first met: a Traveler's Runestone, half buried in the sands of Redrock Cove. Argy had spotted it from up in the clouds, a glistening black stone with a small blue glow. Irresistible to a wandering scavenger. They dove down toward it, not noticing a gull below also making its way to the stone. A one-sided tug-of-war ensued, with Argy simply holding onto the stone as he flew back to the lair, an unrelenting gull stubbornly attached to the other end by its beak.
[item=Traveler's Runestone]
Eventually of course, she let go of the stone out of hunger, to eat a chunk of flying fish offered to her by Argy once they were back at Skyhale Roost. She must have warmed up to Argy then, since now she is always by their side, and an invaluable scavenging partner.

Although one would expect Connor to have a whole hoard of Corgis and Dwarf Hainu, his familiar is actually a Crowned Roc. The Roc's name is Cian - Connor named it merely because he likes the aliteration of Connor and Cian, although the meaning of "ancient" or "enduring" is pretty sick as well.
Cian is almost essential in Connor's line of work. Although Rocs are notoriously difficult to train, Connor spent years getting Cian to be a retrieval bird. Whenever Connor fails miserably, Cian is there to pick him up and drop him off at a medical bay. (The doctors there have gotten to the bird... kind of).
When they're not busy testing things, Connor and Cian enjoy racing through the skies, leaving contrails and and generally getting their collecting boatload of energy out. Days where Connor's more tired out leads to Cian carrying both him and Connor's corgi on a nice, chill flight over the city. Well, usually. Cian can get a bit over excited.
Connor's never been one for creatures other than his beloved dogs, but after a few too many close calls where there was practically no one around to help he decided to find out if there was some flying beast he could train. Getting an assistant was out of the question - Connor was only going to risk his own life thank you very much.
Most of the creatures he found were too small or too flighty. After a couple of failures and asking around, Connor finally got it into his head that he could raise a roc chick to be his aide. Was it a stupid idea? Absolutely. Connor is the king of stupid ideas. Plus, he'd been training dogs for years. How hard could it be?
Really, really hard. See, rocs aren't domesticated like dogs are and training them is so much harder. Even with Cian imprinting on him as a hatchling and all the help he could get, there were plenty of close calls and days where Connor doubted his own sanity for trying such an impossible task.
It got the the point where Connor decided to take Cian to a roc sanctuary. On the way there, however, the pair got caught in a really nasty storm. Connor began to spin out of control. Heavy winds tied him into knots he couldn't get out of. This was it, he was going to fall to his doom.
And then he didn't.
Cian snatched him right out of thin air, carrying him to safety and sheltering him from the elements. Connor had only trained Cian to catch and set him on the ground - not any of the rest. Seriously, where had all this come from? Could Connor really take Cian to the sanctuary?
After the storm passed, Connor decided to give training another shot. It went so much better this time. There was a true sense of camaraderie between the dragon and the roc, even when there were days when Cian refused to cooperate or Connor lost his cool.
It took time, but thanks to this storm they became an inseparable team. No, more than that. They became family. After all, family can be a chaotic dragon, a large lifesaving bird, and an adorable corgi.

“Yep, that’s infected, alright.”
Nim groans, cursing under his breath. “Great.”
Isaac, the doctor, cracks a smile. “It’s not too bad, since you don’t have a fever, but I recommend bed rest for a couple of days.”
“Thank you, Doctor.”
Nim was fortunate enough to have been near a town when his wound started to swell up and puss. Living a nomadic lifestyle wasn’t without its dangers, and Nim experienced that all too well when he slipped on a dirt path softened by rain, and cut his palm on a sharp rock as he skidded down the steep slope. Bested by a rock, it wasn’t Nim’s proudest moment.
He tried to clean the deep wound by carefully pouring water from his canteen over it, spreading what was left of his ointment on and wrapping it up as best as he could one-handed. Professional medical assistance was sparse, since he was in the middle of an isolated bamboo forest on the edges of the Reedcleft Ascent.
Nim’s first priority when he first arrived at Alark was to find a doctor. It was quite a small town, even though Nim had heard there was a school of sorts nearby. He didn’t inquire much, instead quickly hurrying to find a dragon he could ask directions from.
Issac was the only physician in the vicinity. The Skydancer’s clinic is small, cramped, but is also clean and orderly. The examination room is also very private, though the entire place smells strongly of disinfectant.
The doctor finishes cleaning his wound, and wraps it tightly with clean bandages.
“Here’s some antibacterial ointment, apply it twice a day, every time you change the dressing,” Isaac hands him a small glass container. It’s a dark amber color, with a label neatly printed on the side. “Do you have any accommodations? I would offer the overnight clinic bed, but it’s already taken up by another one of my patients…
“It’s fine, I’ll just find an inn somewhere.”
“Oh, if that’s the case, then I’ll write you a recommendation for the Zanthe Inn, just up the hill off Main Street. Give this to the owner, she’ll get you half off your entire stay.” Isaac scribbles furiously on his notepad, before ripping out the page for Nim.
The Zanthe Inn is hard to miss, but if it weren’t for the sign, Nim would have never guessed that it was an inn. The large manor overlooks the entire town, casting a large shadow as the sun began to set, with its three floors and intricate architectural design. The owner must have done some major renovations.
The inside is just as impressive. The lobby is decorated in antiquities, impressions of flowers and birds all over the room. The dragon behind the front desk glances up when he approached, seemingly surprised.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there,” she says. “Would you like to book a room?”
“Yes, Doctor Isaac sent me here? Here’s the, ah, note to give to the owner.” He holds the note towards her.
“That’s me,” the innkeeper says, taking the paper. She quickly scans it, before looking back up and smiling at him. “Seems like you’re not lying. Just sign this and I’ll show you to your room.”
The innkeeper introduces herself as Iraka. She had inherited the manor from her aunt, who’d passed away when she was young.
“I didn’t know what to do with this huge house, it felt so empty. But, look at it now,” Iraka stops at room number 206, unlocking it and opening the door to an unlit room. “Here’s your key, make sure to return it when you check out. If you need anything, just ask.”
“Thank you, I will.”
“I hope you’ll be able to enjoy our little town despite your circumstances, it’s rather nice in my opinion.”
Nim’s been to many towns and villages and cities, and really, they’re all the same. He doesn’t want to be rude however, and just nods politely.
He barely has time to rest in his room when he hears tapping on his window. He opens it to the evening air.
“Not right now, Petra.”
Petra, perched on the windowsill, caws loudly. Nim rushes to shush her, they’re not out in the wilderness anymore. The Storm Seeker thankfully doesn’t caw again, instead curiously making her way into the room. Nim lets her jump onto the table and then onto the wood floors, a rug covering up most of it. There was a bed in the middle of the room, two nightstands, and a lamp that Nim turned on when he entered. A couple paintings hung as decoration on the wallpaper. It was quite nice, and more luxurious than he was used to.
He sits by the wall under the window, and holds out a piece of hardened bread on his non-injured hand. Petra easily avoids the sharp weapon on his middle claw and begins to peck at the proffered food, making a mess all over the floor. Nim smiles.
Someone laughs loudly from the floor below. Now that the windows were open, sounds of the conversations happening below could now be heard from where he sat. There seems to be some sort of party or dinner going on, from the clink of glasses and silverware, and the aromas travelling up. The piece of stale, dry bread on Nim’s hand is inedible in his eyes now. He wonders if it was too late to grab a bite to eat from in town, or if he should just wait until morning for the free breakfast that Iraka had mentioned.
“-well, anyways, that’s the day I learned that fish could indeed be wielded as weapons.”
More laughter. The conversation continues.
It was nice being surrounded by civilization again, but Nim has enough, his eyes were barely holding themselves open. As he goes to shut the window, a familiar voice makes him freeze.
“And what do you think about our proposal, Headmaster?”
It couldn’t be. The chances that they would end up in the same place were basically nonexistent.
“Well, the staff at Hawthorne Academy have all discussed it, and we think it’s a great opportunity for our students. Exaltation is a great honor, even if just given the chance.”

It was Rem. His closest friend, his mentor, his colleague, that Nim had left behind without even a word. He wasn’t ready to face him, not yet.
He needs to leave. Now.
To hell with this quiet little town, his empty stomach, the aching pain in his palm. There’s little for him to pack, though he left a couple coins and the room key on the table. He climbs up to the window, a strong breeze rustling his feathers as he prepares to take flight. The air smells of an incoming storm.
He never gets to stay in one place for long.

From the earth, the sky was cloudy but warm, the sun's rays pushing through the clouds to heat everything below it. It was a very cozy day, excellent flying weather if you kept to the right areas of the sky.
Unfortunately...a young skydancer had gone for height, opting to fly above the clouds to warm himself further...and quickly realized that wasn't such a good idea.
Everywhere he looked, the winds were howling, he couldn't hear anything over the torrent of air pressure swirling around him. At only a few months old, he was fairly good at flying, but nowhere near experienced enough to know which currents to follow, and that the faster currents had the possibility to turn into a storm.
And as new as he was to flying, he had no way of knowing that this wasn't just any storm; he'd pulled himself right into the Twisting Crescendo.
What had begun as s nice flight to the Cloudsong, watching the waters below and aiming to get a better view of the borderlands, had turned into a cold, freezing disaster. The chill from the wind went straight through him, permeating his shawl and parting his feathers to chill him to the bone. His wings were on fire, catching the current and being pulled and whipped around in it, and it burned.
He tried to right himself, to no avail; he tried to climb above the currents, only to get slapped in the face with his tail; he didn't even know if he still had the object he was meant to deliver, where was he going again?
As a last ditch effort the young dragon pulled his wings in close and dove, cutting through the winds, falling out the bottom of the crescendo, and straight into a free fall.
Now, Bassoon had never considered himself afraid of flying. No, he was quite fond of it actually. Loved the peacefulness of it all.
Falling on the otherhand, was not something he really got the opportunity to experience, so this was a first.
His wings were twisted and sore from being stuck in the massive hurricane; dampened from the cold, and he was disoriented, which way was down?
Seeing the water approaching fast, he floundered in the air to right himself and managed to get his wings under him to slow his descent and take control, quickly maneuvering into the path of another current to pull him from his nosedive. He quickly identified the Twisting Crescendo and gazed in awe at all the air currents it was pulling in, how could he have missed the signs?
Noticing he was still in the updraft, Bassoon realized he was headed back for the crescendo and quickly dove out, smacking into something, which he quickly identified as a small white bird now plummeting from the sky. Without thinking he dove after it, and successfully caught it.
It was a little white pigeon.
Unsure if it was hurt, he quickly made a beeline below, far far away from any strong air drafts that might suck him back into the massive whirlwind he narrowly escaped, and struggled up to the the Cloudsong to make his delivery and get the tiny flier some help.
He was exhausted when he made it there, stopping briefly to rest. He pittered around, searching for the dragon he was meant to deliver his package to, his mind a blur, so many dragons, so many directions and strange bizarre mechanisms. He'd never been to the Cloudsong before, and had he not been thrown about for who knows how long, the young Skydancer might've been more enthused and less turned around and frustrated.
Soon enough he found himself in front of a small floating construct at the very edge of the Cloudsong, a stones throw from a floating island with a mountain not far below. Before he could fully comprehend how he got here, the door opened and another dragon, another skydancer, stepped out. She seemed to be a bit surprised at his being there, and ignoring his dazed expression she grinned. "You must be the delivery boy!" She crowed, excitement evident in her voice as she hopped from foot to foot. "Though I didn't order a bird." She quipped, gesturing to the little dove he held gently atop his foreclaws.
He tried to speak up, but she quickly cut him off, picking at his wings, pulling at what was left of his shawl and pulling items out of every pocket he had on him, emptying their contents onto the tarped floor as she spun him this way and that, and he felt like he was back in the Windstorm. "Well don't you worry, kid, we'll get you both fixed right up. Came to the right clan you did, you look like you fought the Windsinger himself!" He found himself letting out a low grumble, afterall, he might as well have.
A sharp "A-ha!" drew his attention back to the other skydancer as she pulled out a tiny metal box. He grimaced at the sight of it, it was damaged. Badly. He expected to get yelled at, shouted at, told to go back, but instead the other Skydancer just chuckled. "This thing's sure seen a beating." She smiled as she opened it, pulled out the glittering medallion inside, and chucked it off the Cloudsong. "Oops!" She chuckled again, "You've no idea how expensive it is to import this metal alloy." She continued, acknowledging his presence again. "Funnily enough, you buy a piece of jewelry from the right seller and it's used as the box for some cheap hunk of junk, go figure."
He stood there puzzled, and she spoke again, "This particular alloy is rather soft, but I need it for something I'm making. I'm gonna melt it down and combine it with other materials, so don't worry about the uh..." Peeking her eye at him through the very noticeable hold in the side, she spoke again, "Damages." Righting herself, she pulled the skydancer forward and ushered him into the little hut she was in, "Let's get you fixed up, kid. There's enough dragons in this mess of a clan, I'm sure someone'll get you healed up proper."
And she was right. He came to find out that the eccentric skydancer's name was Casino, and happened to be a longstanding member of the clan from it's earlier days, and she runs an airship. He stayed there a few days, meeting the diverse group of dragons, resting and telling his story, and seeing that the little dove he had bumped into was healed well too.
By the time he felt well enough to leave, he had found a life-long friend and a clan that welcomed him back with open arms.
Edited for clarity as im not sure if these are all looked at as a group or together by challenge; in a previous challenge I'd mentioned he's a messenger/theatrical telegram delivery dragon and that carries over. The above story takes place around now I guess timeframe, as he's only two months old. He becomes a better messenger and figures out how to have fun with deliveries as his experiences and reputation grow within the clan.

Storm Seekers are the heralds of bleak weather. Entire murders of them flock toward approaching thunderclouds and hurricanes.
2000
“And I see great potential in your students, certainly.”
