@ObsidianMage - Thanks for letting me know :) I love the fox drawing! And I love your school's wild courtyard! I much prefer a nice wild patch of grass to a perfectly mown lawn. I wouldn't say the photo is too identifying, though if you're concerned, I've got your points down so you can remove it if you want.

@Saeralyhn - Good luck with the hunt! I hope you enjoy your first Greenskeepr Gathering! We always have a lot of fun :D

@RecursionErr0r - Thank you for letting me know ^_^ Got your points up to date. I am absolutely jealous! That view from the rock is amazing!

Oh! I forgot about flies! I'm going to say they count as a creepy crawly though. I made that category for all the other insects and buggy things.

I am an amateur birder and avid catcher of snakes, spiders, and other "creepy crawlies." I'm not particularly familiar with the different cyptids, but Mothman is probably my favorite. My favorite cryptid-related nonfiction book is Weird US, a book about all kinds of strange phenomena, like the Marfa Lights. My favorite color is gray, although some say it is not an actual color. My favorite familiar is the Banded Owlcat, my favorite breed is the Nocturne, and my favorite Gene is Skink.

23. Research Invasive Species in Your Country
Lionfish are native to Asia, but are now a very harmful invasive species in the U.S. It's believed that the lionfish were introduced when inexperienced aquarium owners released their hard-to-care-for fish into the ocean. Hurricane Andrew is known to have smashed a tank holding six lionfish, releasing them into a bay.
Lionfish are predators covered in venomous spines. They have voracious appetites and can breed every month of the year. They have no predators in U.S. waters, and prey on many different kinds of fish. Attempts to entice sharks to go after them by feeding the sharks speared lionfish has failed. Methods used to get rid of them include spearing and trapping, but because of their incredible reproductive rate culling must be done all year to have any effect.
Luckily for us, lionfish are edible and are said to be delicious. Restaurants are beginning to put this particular invasive species on the menu, which could both decrease the number of lionfish in U.S waters, and take the pressure off more commonly eaten fish such as tuna. So help the environment, eat a lionfish for lunch.

24. Grow Something

26. Write a Story

It was a beautiful morning of early summer.
I woke early and went for a walk, unusual for me. I'm normally not a morning person at all. But this morning a grackle or something insisted on sitting right outside my window to sing, and there was no way I could get back to sleep after that racket. Grackles sound like a car alarm, but even more annoying! Anyways, after tossing and turning for a bit, I decided I was up for the day and got up. Snuck downstairs, helped myself to my brother's toaster tarts, (he likes cherry) and slipped outside to wander through the woods for a bit.
I've heard wonders about early morning walks and the incredible rare animals you saw every other step, but so far I could count the animals I spotted on one hand, and they were all squirrels. I heard plenty of birds, but they were well hidden within the trees.
I kicked a rock off to the side of the path. Then I paused. It had landed by a very strange track. I crouched down besides the track. It was a hoofprint, like a deer, but much larger and deeper. We didn't have moose or elk around here, so what could it be? Was someone's cow loose on our property?
My train of thought was derailed as I heard someone shout. I jumped up as they screamed something indecipherable, but clearly panic-stricken. They yelled again, then it was silent. Sickeningly so.
Cautiously I stepped off the path in the direction the shouts had come from. Then they yelled again and I broke into a run. Whoever it was, they needed help. Stumbling over sticks and roots, smacking through spiderwebs and bushes, I ran headlong towards the voice.
I broke into a small clearing as they screamed again. It was suddenly cut short, and replaced by a blood-curdling howl I would almost describe as gleeful. In front of me was not an injured, lost human. Crouched on a tree limb staring down at me hungrily was a horrible feline creature with a long, sinous body. A small part of me noticed that it had cloven hooves instead of paws. The rest of me, however, was too busy blubbering with fear to notice anything.
Then it moved, tensing to pounce. The tiny motion broke me free of my paralysis and I turned and ran. Behind me it snarled and I heard heavy footfalls as it pursued me. I ran faster than I'd ever gone in my life, gasping for air, wishing desperately that I had signed up for cross-country last fall. Branches scraped at my legs and side and thorny brambles caught at my feet, but I ignored the pain and kept going. Behind me was the creature, panting heavily but still right on my heels. I almost stepped on a grouse, which exploded out of the ground in a flurry of feathers. I shrank back, startled, then stretched out again.
The moment cost me though. Pain burst through my leg as the creature shredded my calf with a snap of its jaws. Instinctively I kicked out of it and felt the momentary satisfaction of feeling it connect.
At that moment it seemed to decide I wasn't worth chasing any longer and sprang into the bushes. I wasn't about to stop though. I kept running all the way to the house, where I collapsed shaking on the porch. Blood was running down my leg and my pants were completely ruined, but I was alive.
I was alive.

(The cryptid in this story is the Croccota, a leapard-like creature with hooves and the ability to mimic to mimic voices. It's a powerful hunter that will eat humans, although it doesn't go out of its way to do so.)

27. Describe Your Walk

The air is heavy with moisture. All around me I hear drops of water falling from the leaves down to the ground. Birds sing and dart about the edge of my vision, winged shadows gone as swiftly as they appear. I can smell the rain and the faintest touch of decaying plants. I smell something musty, but cannot find the source.
It is warm in the sun, too warm. I am unable to determine whether my clothes are damp from the humid air or my own sweat. Probably both. I move beneath the trees where it is cooler and the air sweeter.
The trees are of several different types, but all are tall and straight. The path is wide, if uneven, and I walk down it. The trees are covered with lichen and their bark is darker than normal because of the rain. Their leafy crowns stretch overhead, allowing only a little sunlight through. Small grasshoppers leap in front of me as I walk. Spiderwebs, sparkling with dew, stretch between the trees.
I walk slowly, watching for animals. I see a few birds, mostly cardinals. I hear what could be crows or ravens in the distance. At one point I am certain I hear a woodpecker. Along the path, dead leaves and rotten sticks are headed together. Occasionally I spot a mushroom growing in the damp, fertile soil. I find a pile of logs with shelf fungus growing out of the bark. They look like large, fleshy ears taken root.
Soon I reach the pond. On a stump in the water, I see what may be a duck, or a small heron. Before I can take a picture something behind me distracts me. By the time I turn back to the pond, it has flown away. The rustling noise I heard was a male cardinal watching me.
The water is shallow, but reflects the sky and trees like a mirror. Lilypads grow in several clumps near the deeper end, and a small, grassy island rises out of the pond. When I walk along the shore, tiny frogs leap into the water and burrow into the mud. Water bugs skate across the surface like dancers. Beautiful red dragonflies dart around me, dipping down every so often to brush the surface of the water as they hunt. Out in the water, something jumps. I don't think there are any fish, so it must be a frog.
Soon I go back. It is growing late and I know supper will be ready soon. I walk quicker this time, stopping only to examine a feather. It is old, but I suspect it came from a vulture. Tomorrow morning I will wake early and look for them on the telephone poles, where I have seen them before, basking in the morning sun.

Details: Pretty much the first I had ever heard of cryptids was from the cartoon Secret Saturdays. I remember a couple of things from the show, but there are so many others that I've never heard of! I'm in Nature flight and I love the welcoming yet silly community :D The flight aesthetic in general is very nice too :) My favorite dragon breed tends to be Mirrors, but I have a few Tundra-loving friends who have really gotten me interested in the cute floofs. IRL, I love reptiles in general. When I get to a point in my life where I feel like I can take care of a pet, I'll almost definitely get a snake.

Privet is a shrub-like plant that drastically outcompetes native plants and trees in the US, Australia, and New Zealand. It's able to adapt to many different light conditions, and reproduces through both seeds and severed root fragments, making it extremely difficult to fully eradicate. In forests where it is non-native, privet reduces the number of trees and diminishes plant and insect diversity.

Lumo watched Vero dive, plunging deep beneath the waves. They'd been fishing all morning and their packs—and bellies—were just about full, but as they traveled back across the sea they paused for a few more snacks whenever they caught sight of shadows swimming below the surface.

Waiting for his friend to surface, Lumo hovered in the air and gazed down at the sapphire water. The sky was cloudless, but as Luno watched, a dark shadow moved along the water. A moment later Vero's magenta form burst from the sea, rocketing up faster than Lumo had ever seen him go. He blew past Lumo as he ascended higher and higher, and Lumo beat his wings hard to catch up.

When he stopped moving, Vero's eyes were wide with fright as he stared down toward the ocean.

"What's wrong?" Lumo asked, "What did you see?"

"It was... it was..." His friend was practically out of breath from how fast he'd flown, water still dripping from his mane and wings. "A whale! It was h-huge and purple a-and covered in spikes!"

"What?" That couldn't be. It sounded like Vero was describing a leviathan from the Deeprealms, but... those were just legends. Myths! Maybe he was mistaken? "Are you sure—"

Lumo stopped short at the sound of something breaching the surface. He looked down just in time to see a gigantic whale lunging from the surface. It arced through the air majestically, then fell back down with a massive crash that sent water spraying high into the sky. The shadowy form grew smaller and smaller beneath the waves, then vanished entirely.

The two dragons slowly stared at one another in amazement.

"No one will believe this," Lumo said.

"Not a chance," Vero agreed.

27. Describe your walk
It was late afternoon without a cloud in the sky, and the sun had gone down somewhat, turning an unexpectedly sweltering day into a pleasantly warm afternoon. I headed over to the local pond, where all the plants and trees that were dormant just a couple months ago are now in full bloom. The pond itself is fairly shallow and slow-moving, giving the whole area a very earthy, musty scent. It's not unpleasant, just very... natural. But as I walked by a few of the bushes and trees I could catch the refreshingly sweet floral scent of their flowers.

Despite the nearby bike trail and joggers, there were lots of animals out and about. Birds chirped back and forth to each other from the trees, and there was a noticeable goose presence—the evidence was all over the sidewalk. But just like the plants, the animals were growing too. A mallard and her four babies swam along the mud searching for food, and a pair of geese with three babies of their own waddled along the grass.

I had my eye on the abundance of lily pads and reeds for any sign of frogs, but there were none to be seen. I did catch sight of something brown swimming along the water, though. I was too far away to get a good look, but it definitely wasn't a duck—maybe I spotted a cryptid after all? Or... maybe it was just a beaver.

Hey! i am Apfelobst, you can call ma Apfel or Ao and I really like apples (my username translates to applefruit xD). I love nature and I am a memeber of the nature flight. I live in germany in a rural area and I love it :D I love Cryptids and my favorit one are oracle trees (the trees that speak with people and often see all the possible futures, but one doesn't know if the tree means good or bad). I hope that I will be able to do all the challenges, becuase of time manegement 8I am bad at it) but I try :D!

Pueraria montana or better know as Kudzu is an invasive plant in Europe and the rest of the world. The plant is a seasonal climbing plant and native to East Asia (China, Japan and Korea). Becasue of its climbing ability (it can reach up to 30m [32.81 yrds]) it destroyes whole forest, cliffes and even house walls. Another problem is that it is really hard to destroy Kudzu, their tubers can get as long as 2 m [2.18 yrds] and 18-45 cm [7.1 - 17.7 ft] big and weigh up to 180kg [396.8 pounds]! On the other hand, they can be used for food as they are not toxic and have more calories than potatos! Maybe we soon see them as a new super food!

@Charliex8, quick question regarding the drawing task - does it have to be strictly realistic? Like, drawing something that's clearly meant to be based on a real-world animal, but has something fantasy-influenced about it? I was thinking a deer with flowers sprouting from its antlers so basically a Sawsbuck, haha, which does fit in with the whole cryptid theme!
