Username: @heartcrusher1
Challenge: #1 - Introduce Yourself

Details: Hello! I'm heartcrusher1 - I go by heart, though. I'm not super fond of all of nature (things that bite, itch, or smell bad are a no), but I do love observing it from a comfortable distance. I love both flora and fauna, and I love turtles/tortoises in particular! I am fond of the Loch Ness monster, and the Kraken is a close second!

Username: Snek Challenge: 1. Introduce Yourself Entry: n/a Details: Hello, I'm Snek. I'm a quiet little Lightning lurker. Don't get to go on many walks here as it's almost always really hot, but by golly I'm going to do as many scavenger hunt tasks as possible this year. I love plants, though my allergies don't, and as you can guess from my username, my favorite animals are snakes. Tsuchinoko are good stuff. Username: Snek Challenge: 2. Make Your Name Card Entry: Details: I'm in the middle of packing up house and couldn't find any index cards, so it's on an envelope. Gotta do what you gotta do for festival games. Username: Snek Challenge: 3. Tree Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/53c828065a9e1c4241fa653cc1506b24/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko10_540.png Details: I don't know what kind of tree this is but it's not far from where I live and I think it's lovely. Username: Snek Challenge: 4. Flower Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/e59b0a98bda51ccd9e769fd6bf0dbdfd/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko5_1280.png Details: These wildflowers pop up everywhere. Username: Snek Challenge: 5. An Unusual Stick Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/531bafc1b114351cd104374393acb719/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko9_1280.png Details: This stick is way more wiggly looking than I'm used to seeing in a single branch and the bits on the left end make it look like some sort of weird alien snail-snake hybrid. Username: Snek Challenge: 6. Clouds Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/a6215d6d9484edaa974a622c3551a48c/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko8_1280.png Details: Yesterday I cursed clouds for interfering with my Charmander catching on Pokemon Go. Today I am thankful for their presence. Username: Snek Challenge: 7. 3 Different Leaves Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/57135705909df294d6a0ac6436c7f642/tumblr_p923r6VPwJ1s8rrzko3_r1_250.png Details: Got all three different kinds of leaves in one shot instead of over three. One is from a tree sapling, one is old from autumn, and one is some weird ivy thing that keeps trying to grow where we don't want it. Username: Snek Challenge: 8. Biggest Rock You Can Find Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/c9e39019bb490fe5b8cc970727e05f60/tumblr_p923r6VPwJ1s8rrzko4_r1_500.png Details: My hand is up off the ground and that rock is sitting farther back than it looks. That rock was bigger than my head. Username: Snek Challenge: 9. Something You Think Is Beautiful Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/327f327e4f1085cb4076259bcc0a37f1/tumblr_p923r6VPwJ1s8rrzko5_r1_1280.png Details: This is a kind of moss-ish thing that grows on a lot of trees here. I've thought they were neat-looking and pretty since I was a kid. As far as I've ever been able to see, they start out like two or three poky, curly tendril bits sticking off a branch, and they slowly grow and grow into these big ball-like structures. Sometimes they fall off when the branch or twig does, like this one, or I guess if there's strong wind, and then you can pick them up and play with them. They're soft and wild-looking, and I love the color, and they sort of look like tree pom-poms when they pop up all over a tree. Username: Snek Challenge: 11. Feather Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/61435d91e825a623c297f90dd3e51984/tumblr_p923r6VPwJ1s8rrzko6_r1_500.png Details: It started raining right in the middle of trying to take this picture. Username: Snek Challenge: 12. Fruit or Berries Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/52f48d2fe1aea4daf6615e6ae35bd4ce/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko4_500.png Details: There is a house that has a grapefruit tree and a lime tree. The grapefruits were big but all on the inside of the leaves, so this is from the lime tree. Username: Snek Challenge: 16. Mammal Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/0c024064458a2a8e11c5f0084071fcef/tumblr_p923r6VPwJ1s8rrzko2_1280.png https://78.media.tumblr.com/397d5e9afbe4dafabb0e4bbb46edc366/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko6_1280.png Details: It was super hot today and practically no wildlife was out, so I was complaining about how unlikely it was I would see even a squirrel. Then a squirrel shot up out of nowhere and into the palm tree in front of me. I'm using the connected images permission because the tree was way taller than me and he was trying to stay unseen so I couldn't get both a clear shot of him and of my sign at the same time. I circled him in the sign photo (you can see the pieces of him sticking over the sides) but he moved to a better branch for the second shot. You can see his head better there. Username: Snek Challenge: 17. Bird Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/396d5310e2f884d3ed13bd038e40c637/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko2_400.png Details: A delightful loud boy sitting up there being raucous. Username: Snek Challenge: 20. Creepy Crawly Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/d1276050d654bb68fdcbb37526219cec/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko1_400.png Details: The little white thingie is a snail! It is also sitting next to a babyish version of the thing from #9. I'm sorry it's hard to see, but we couldn't make the picture any better. Username: Snek Challenge: 21. Go Litter Picking Entry: https://78.media.tumblr.com/7ff67cea75d793ea3d8a876acf8836a2/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko7_1280.png https://78.media.tumblr.com/7f36a8f9f9dbc71b4308debf04fa8da4/tumblr_p9230sXoDa1s8rrzko3_500.png Details: There's a gas station where it's really common to see the beer cans and lotto tickets and other garbage just thrown around the bus stop and in the pretty little plant garden thing out front. There's also always a whole lot of cigarette butts in the grass across the street. Very sad. Username: Snek Challenge: 27. Describe Your Walk. Entry: I was going to get lunch today with a gift card I'd been given, so I thought it was a good opportunity to do some of the scavenger hunt photos. It was windy, which helped take some of the edge off the fact that it was also really hot, but not by much. Going down a street with really nice front yards full of different trees, flowers, and odd plants helped more, because there was so much shade. The wind also sorta killed most of the smells, but I did catch a nasty whiff of skunk at one point. Saw a wasp, but decided it was probably a good idea not to try to get a picture of that for Creepy Crawly, then turned around and saw a big red flying insect of some sort. I wanted to get up close for that because I'd never seen one before, but it wasn't having any of that, so I gave up and waited until later, when the snail happened. At one point, I heard something rustle a big nearby bush really hard, but I couldn't see into it well enough to figure out what it was. Remembered seeing some bird tracks the other day but not the right location. I'll have to figure out where they were and get them later. Anyway, it was nice. Except for the sunburn. Remember your sunscreen, people. It doesn't take long to get one when the weather's right for it. Details: n/a

this is really cute! I'm no good at these, but hopefully it'll get me out of the house for a little. Gonna do everything in one post like everyone else.

Challenge 1: Introduce Yourself

Details: Hi! I'm Ragnell, or Cerise (curse being 4 years late to this site). I'm an avid video game nerd, but i also like gardening and hiking in the canyon behind my house! The weather's been bad lately and i haven't been very active for the past few weeks, but hopefully this'll be the push I need to get outside some more! I also reeeally want those leafy gladeboughs.

1. Introduce Yourself
alyblaith, they/her. I live like 5 minutes from a large park but it's closed on my only day off work and the irony is frustrating as all heck.
2. Make your Name Card
I did this first thing but it's sleep time now so lol tomorrow
This is not the same one I used for many of the photos, because I lost the original one (this one) before I went out, and then I lost the one I went out with, and honestly I'll probably lose my replacement today too.

alyblaith, they/her.

Not gonna lie, thought this was a giant angry lizard when I first saw it

You have to walk with your feet in the water, otherwise its easy to get overheated. The surf was very calm (see pic). We saw so many things today. Several types of live shells, 2 live hermit crabs (very unusual for our beach), We rescued a sea anemone that had been popped off its anchor. We found him a nice little spot in the rocks where the incoming tide wouldn't batter him and hopefully he can get re-anchored. We also picked up some pretty shells which I might use for my beautiful things pic. Also, quite a few different crab shells. Other things I noticed was there were quite a few people now that its summer. There were a couple of seagulls, sanderlings, herons, pelicans and turnstones. Little bits of several types of seaweed were washed ashore. And even a butterfly flittered by. Overall, it was a great day for a walk on the beach. =D ________________________ Challenge 28: Make something using natural materials Entry: Stage one - Stage 2 - Finished Palm Mat Details: Taking a walk and want to sit down for a break, but the ground is damp and you forgot to bring a blanket? I found two species that are highly invasive and fast growing- Boston/English ivy and wisteria. I really wanted to plant wisteria because I think it's gorgeous, but I've found out it's also very toxic to animals if eaten, and we have dogs in the neighborhood so definitely not a good idea :( I've also read that wisteria can grow in lots of different soil types, and choke out anything it grows over, such as fellow trees. It requires diligent pruning to keep it from taking over your buildings/structures! I was shocked to learn that many gardeners and landscapers consider it to be a pest. Apparently the Asian species is more invasive, so it's recommended to plant the North American type if you really want it. [/columns]
@RainyRose ping myself so I don't lose this! Will update with all my entries.

Username: RainyRose
Challenge: Challenge 1- Introduce Yourself
Details: Hi there :D I'm RainyRose, username inspired by my favorite weather and flower. I love gardening but I dislike dirt (wat?) and the creepy crawlies that live in the dirt (yuck)! But I power through anyway and am very proud of my garden beds :) I used to live in the woods, but now I live in the suburbs closer to the city, so I try my hardest to make our home as natural as possible.

I'll be adding more to this post as I complete the challenges (might be a few days).

Challenge 1 Username: @Forestwolf
Introduce yourself:

I chose my username "Forestwolf" because I love wolves and I love the forest. There is a small forested area right behind my apartment with a small stream running through it, so I'm hoping to get some nice pictures of flora and fauna. I used to be a zoologist so I'll identify whatever I find to at least a genus.

Challenge 2 Name Card
https://i.imgur.com/eRNASPp.jpg

Challenge 3. Tree
Entry Virginia Pine (Pinus virginiana)
https://i.imgur.com/JNZ024O.jpg
Details These are gorgeous, medium-sized pine trees which do well in poor soil. True survivors, so long as they have ample sunlight.

Challenge 4. Flower
Entry Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
https://i.imgur.com/QmBtWOY.jpg
Details The lowly dandelion is actually a powerhouse plant. All parts of it are edible and delicious, though the raw leaves are slightly bitter.

Challenge 5. An Unusual Stick
Entry https://i.imgur.com/sCIcu4B.jpg
Details Don't have much to say about this one, except that it looks like it has antennae.

Challenge 6. Clouds
Entry Cumulonimbus (mostly) https://i.imgur.com/wj0ZDky.jpg
Details It is surprisingly difficult to take a picture of the sky with my phone while also trying to get my notecard in the shot. In any case, it's about 70 degrees F and the barometer is dropping rapidly as a storm approaches. The sky is darkening and the wind is picking up. Those clouds have overtaken that tiny patch of blue already. I love it.

Challenge 7. Three Different Types of Leaves
Entry https://i.imgur.com/36Zq2WN.jpg
Details From left to right: Forsythia sp, Chickweed (Stellaria media), Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale). Both chickweed and dandelion leaves are edible.

Challenge 8. Biggest Rock You Can Find
Entry https://i.imgur.com/2FSaQjr.jpg
Details A big rock. I'm not a geologist so I really have no idea what it is.

9. Something you think is beautiful
10. Sunrise/Sunset

Challenge 11. Feather
Entry Bluejay (Cyanocitta cristata)
https://i.imgur.com/8pd2cdv.jpg
Details This gorgeous blue feather was found in the tallish grass in a swail between the small forest and the back of my apartment.

12. Fruit or Berries

Challenge 13. Fungus
Entry Mycena sp.
https://i.imgur.com/8DuYXL0.jpg
This is a tiny specimen because I missed the main display which peaked yesterday. There were a whole lot of them, which is a shame. Not much to add about this particular mushroom, but many in the Mycena genera are actually bioluminescent, a trait commonly called "foxfire", which is an eerie green glow. Though this one isn't of that species, the bioluminescent ones are really pretty.

14. Lake, Pond River or Stream
15. Animal Tracks or Traces

Challenge 16. Mammal
Entry https://i.imgur.com/kuYk4CL.jpg
Details This is Elwood, my beloved Chocolate Labrador Retriever. I couldn't snap a picture of a wild mammal lol.

17. Bird
18. Bee, Butterfly, Dragonfly or Moth

Challenge 19. Reptile, Amphibian or Fish Amphibian
Entry American Toad (Anaxyrus americanus)
https://i.imgur.com/ql1qNTK.jpg
Details I am so happy! This gorgeous toad decided to visit my patio (it's concrete but leads directly out onto a lawn and from there into the small forest behind my apartment). He actually sat completely still while I placed the notecard and suffered through 3 pictures, including one with a flash.

20. Creepy Crawly
21. Go Litter Picking
22. Go On a Picnic

Challenge 23. Research Invasive Species in your country
Entry Japanese Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica)
https://i.imgur.com/LYrZ1OJ.jpg
Details Though this particular plant has a lovely, heady scent which speaks of summer, it's not supposed to grow in Virginia, sadly. Even so, it does provide a source of food for local herbivores, and humans can eat the flowers as well as enjoy the scent.

24. Grow Something!
25. Feed or Water your local wildlife

Challenge 26. Write a Story (encounter with a cryptid, at least 8 sentences)
One evening as I sat reading in the living room my dog was suddenly alerted to the presence of something outside. I stood and peered through the vertical blinds. It was dark but I could make out a small shape sitting calmly on the porch, peering back at me curiously. I decided to take a chance and flicked the porch light on. There before me sat the most glorious creature I've ever seen.

It had a big fluffy tail, pointed ears, was the shape and size of a fox, but that's where the resemblance ended. This fox-like animal was the colour of moss, and appeared to have fur that was actually composed of moss. Along its back grew tiny mossy sprouts in the shape of stars, the ends of which glowed slightly. The mossfox's large eyes were of a colour that is difficult to describe, as they seemed to shift from a spectrum of hues reminiscent of a moonlit forest: aquas, greens, browns, silvers, the yellow spark of a firefly and the deepest black. As I stood there transfixed, the mossfox rose, winked at me and disappeared, leaving a swirling afterimage of multi-coloured light.

Challenge 27. Describe your walk (at least 4 sentences)
It was early evening, around 8:30 pm, and my dog Elwood and I were walking across a large field. The grass was tall and small white butterflies fluttered among the clover. I picked a nearby dandelion and blew on it, scattering the seeds into the wind, made a wish. A storm was coming, we were getting pelted by tiny raindrops so we decided to head home.

28. Make something using natural materials

Challenge 29. Nature Rubbings (try to do 2)
Entry
1. Leaf (Forsythia) https://i.imgur.com/LmG0tfY.jpg
2. Leaf (Chickweed) https://i.imgur.com/UOoRHa1.jpg

Image 2 (WIP) https://i.imgur.com/D0Sf7Zl.jpg
Image 3 Done! https://i.imgur.com/vRcV5kd.jpg
Details Cryptid is a Mossfox (my own creation). He is made from Sculpey which I shaped, baked and painted, then I gathered moss from outside, let it dry out for a day and glued it to him.

Challenge 32. Photograph a Cryptid (in its natural setting)
Entry https://i.imgur.com/extcPUQ.jpg
Details It is storming here so I couldn't really take the picture outside, but according to my cryptid encounter story the Mossfox appeared on my patio, which is where he is shown in the picture.
