TOPIC | Lore Lair Essentials??
Hey, all.

I was wondering what would be considered the "essentials" to creating a lore lair. It doesn't have to be all fancy, but I just wanted to get an idea of what I should have before I start doing anything important for creating one. It'd be very helpful!

Imo, coding and friends! It's amazing to have lore and stories and a whole world, but sharing it with someone makes it all that much more fun! And making it look nice makes it more pleasing to the eye!

I would link to like a guide or something but I have no idea where it is. Honestly, I don't think there's anything essential for a lore lair other than a bunch of dragons that have lore.

You might want to think about how your lair actually functions. Is it a coalition, a town, an organization, or perhaps a loose collection of dragons who share a theme(s). Is there a theme?

Is it like a town with a literal location in a part of Sornieth, canonical or imagined? How is that location structured? If it's an organization or town of some sort, who leads and/or organizes it?

How did the lair, whether it's a literal town/group/or just a bunch of random dragons, originate?

How does it currently function? How do the members interact? How do they interact with other clans, if they do so? Are you going to tie in any real FR lore into your lair lore? These are some things you can consider.

It might be easier to come up with some interesting lore for a few dragons and use that as like a compass for what direction you take the lair in for the future. You can build clan lore around a clan leader or other dragons, rather than potentially boxing yourself in with preordained clan lore.

I do have a link to this one post called 100 lore questions, maybe it'll give you some ideas.

@TheQueensToast It is indeed! It is one of my goals, and I plan on making my lair quite detailed indeed!

@closedcaptioning Thank you for the reply! The questions helped me develop what I will have as a sort of "basis" for my lair. And yes, I'll definitely look at the post you have!

I have no idea about the essentials myself! :D

I find it fun to start off a lair with some basic, hole in the ground, scratched refuge type description... and then steadily build on it and change things as I interact with friends and build things up in game. But maybe that's the terminal Dwarf Fortress hermit in me talking.

Seeing people's talent with coding and layouts just blows my mind as someone who's purely art/writing focused. Design elements are not my strong suit! LOL

[center] I feel like it all really depends on the person and the dragon. Some of my dragons have short/basic lore and some have long lore that goes into some detail. I once wanted ALL my dragons to have long lore.. but then i realized that would take forever and the quality would probably suffer because of it. I would say the biggest thing about lore is that when someone reads it they can really tell who the dragon is. ( i am not sure if thats the right way to put it or not..) And after that its all just tweaking it to make it right. One easy "Start" To lore to get the feel of a dragons personality is to use
these 3 things:
Personality / Voice / Theme Song /
I started using those to help me get across a dragons personality and such.

I hope this helps..
