I'd love such a system. Honestly, I learned that familiars weren't a permanent thing in your bestiary only a few months ago and sold my KS familiars to someone. I'm also someone who tends to lend things to help people out, so when I learned I couldn't lend my Light sprite (because they're so very pricey), I was a bit heartbroken. I think this system wouldn't necessarily decrease the value of retired familiars since there a very definite number of them that won't increase. Also, it would even incite the market instead of everyone just huddling to their precious because else they don't have a complete bestiary.

I'm pretty new to the site, and from the start I couldn't understand the point of having an awakened familiar. Meaning: if for either RP or aesthetics you carefully match a dragon with just the right familiar and go through days and days of clicking and...the current game rewards you if you discard the familiar your dragon has worked so hard to bond with, and just start over with some other random creature. The awakened familiar has no point. Assuming I understand it all correctly, awakened familiars have a feel of "why bother, if I can get more treasure after a couple of minutes in the fairgrounds?"
I'd love to see that change!
I really like these two suggestions:
Also a tiny little thing: maybe if dragons bonded to awakened familiars had like a golden squirrel icon?
Cool. That'd be a visual reward, a badge of distinction!
A choice to "exalt" awakened familiars to a menagerie OR to keep them equipped to a dragon and add a combat bonus.
My additional thought: if you're bonded with a familiar who travels with you everywhere, its fellow creatures won't attack you in the coli (just won't show up).

Super late to the replying party here, but I think your additional thought is pretty interesting, @Kliio :o

Abstract: Once familiars reach Awakened status, lock their captured status in our Bestiaries.
By this, I mean that once we put in the work to get the familiar to max status, we should be able to sell/trade it away and still have its information recorded in our Bestiary.

This this this this this.
I've said it before and over and over again since. This NEEDS to happen.
