I have mix feelings about this, but firstly came to mind is what the gods are up too? Yes i would imagine fr having some sort of animation or movement later on for dragons but this just feels off. We do have animation on our familiars - for col! So can we have something similar? These are just added effects just make them have a environmental feel which doesn’t fit well with col. i was more hoping like fancy one of a kind apparel animation instead of effects. Plus these effects doesn’t fit well with fr style art - like the waves effects are just ridiculous.
I see this as a desperate update for more site interaction or a money grab. (Since everything is getting tough out there!) Or it can just be that they trying to pull away from many other site pets games and class fr unique. Since i haven’t really seen anything like this done before.
Please be mindful tho, team are trying there best to make fr fun for all of us.

definitely can't see myself using this feature at all lol.
really thought it would be a huge QoL update (dark mode, mobile UI update, auction house or whatever else, bug fixes, idk things that have been requested for a good while), blingee effects on dragons... was not it. good for people who are enjoying them, to me they're jarring, especially because they're animated. some of the static versions look nice but in that way they're essentially just fancy skins..

i've seen some neat uses of the more subtle effects, but it's overall been a bit of a bust for me. as others have mentioned, some of the effects seem to clash with site style and look a bit out of place. others just feel very experimental and unpolished - kind of as if someone was playing around with animated overlays in after effects. not to mention the way it seems to decrease image quality. it's a bit of a random "meh" update. i was personally hoping for updated site art and elemental banners. <':

....wait, so they've made a feature which essentially negates other features?
Right, deleting my post that was cautiously optimistic. This is an extremely odd choice. There are a lot of users who collect special eyes or ancients with line breaking terts. So strange.

Mmmm.... no I think it's more like one effect is more wonky with these particular features than others, and is more likely a bug for that effect. The ghost effect and the flecks effect seemingly work fine with special eyes and linebreaking terts. Admittedly I haven't tried it with the other effects, but Pastel whatever it's called feels a little broken atm.

I just realized that sheen, the galore effect we got, isn’t at all visible with animations off. Which is… a choice. I think it actually could’ve been nice static, but an interesting tidbit.
Well the good news is that them not working with Marva cloak is apparently a bug [emoji=imperial happy size=1] Which is nice because I do actually think it would look REALLY cool if you could have a dragon silhouette made out of one of the effects.

I'll make a nice signature eventually :(

While I'm not a particular fan of most of them, I'm really looking forward to the future of animated apparel; perhaps some falling leaves, swimming fish, flocks of birds, etc. I just hope that long-awaited features aren't too far behind!
It's definitely something to get used to...

I'm really mixed about this update. I really think the animations and effects look pretty cool, it's just that all the new UI is gonna take some getting used to. I don't like the new buttons.
I finally realized why this update feels so weird to me: it reminds me of Neopets. Neopets has all kinds of animated apparel/backgrounds, and it can sometimes make viewing a pet page really distracting. I'm glad that FR has things you can do to turn the animations off, though. For now I'll try and get used to it, but if I really don't like it I can always turn em off.
I want to be hopeful though. The one thing that might worry me is that this is one more kind of dragon feature that will eventually need more added to it. So now, we have apparel, genes, scenes, AND effects for the staff to work on. Obviously the other things (mainly apparel and genes probably) take precedence; but still something to consider.
I'm also sad that this update isn't working for everyone. I very much understand being disappointed today.

I was very hopeful for updates to the item attachment systems in Crossroads and Private Messages. Although I did put cute butterflies on BlackPearl, I don't really see myself using these otherwise. Not really my thing. It does sort of remind me of those old icon makers that allowed you to "animate" a slide show with bling and other effects.
I'll try to stay open-minded to what this could mean for the future with more development and options, but for now I'm feeling a bit meh.

I'm in "Who was even asking for this" boat.
I'm happy that others are enjoying it but I can't help but to think...why? Why is this something that's been in the pipes instead of, as others have said, the huge myriad of QoL updates that have been being asked for, many of them for upwards of months to years. I didn't have any speculations but this coming out before a site supported dark mode or the Coli captchas being updated is....weird. And worrisome, I agree.
A site like this needs to walk a delicate line between new and fresh stuff that no one asks for and stuff that folks actually ask for. This feels out of the blue and kind of out of place. I wasn't a fan when GaiaOnline added the Astra items and I feel the same kind of abject disappointment and apathy about Effects here. The huge pause button at the center-bottom of my dragon portrait is also...pretty unwelcome and clunky.
I hope that Staff can look at this mixed reception and consider focusing in on some of the things that players have actually been asking for -- especially since they hadn't even done improvements to some parts of the site that need accessibility updates and now they've added this whole thing that needs its own accessibility support.
All that said: My excitement is pretty numbed by the fact that none of the effects are working on my end. I had them turned on but I couldn't see anything. All of the preview images are just static and so are all of the ones being posted by fellow players. My current theory is my browser is already set to reduce or disallow animations thanks to other things I need to moderate, meaning that this update is essentially useless for me bc I'm not turning those settings off just to see a sparkly sheen.

I'm confused about this. At least the ones I've tried worked fine with my linebreaking veilspun with multigaze? So I'm not seeing how special eyes and linebreaking genes are incompatible with them?
The effects themselves are just.... eh.

That was me!!
To clarify, I'm not anti- effects but I don't see why they include the lines in the first place. The subtler ones are great, albeit sometimes jarring, but locking the one new thing that's ancient-and-permabab approved away from the linebreaker and Innocent crowd is annoying and I don't get the point.
Hopefully there'll be some sort of solution bc it just sucks.
Even just a button to layer terts and eyes over this would work!
(Honestly skins needed that already...)
