Crazy quote today while reading "I Have Nothing To Hide" by Heidi Boghosian! The formatting is like extra important for this so I'm painting a word picture to properly convey how it hit me
First you have the chapter title in big capital letters (it's supposed to represent a commonly thought myth about data security/privacy):
"METADATA DOESN'T REVEAL MUCH ABOUT ME"
Then, the subtitle right underneath in smaller letters:
"We kill people based on metadata - Michael Hayden, former NSA and CIA director"
What a one-two punch

Daily Question
Generally I'm a fan of series over standalone books. I like coming back to the same world over and over again with different stories and characters. As for longer vs shorter books, I'm not sure I have an opinion? Although, I guess connecting to my preference of series, the more time I get to spend in a world the better. So maybe I just like a long series lol

Read some hilarious Batfam meets the Justice League fics.

Do you prefer shorter or longer books? Series or standalone?

I tend to prefer longer books in a series. I like to see the characters grow and get a chance to really understand the world the characters live in.

I'm continuing to get through Fathomfolk! Even though the writing style can be a bit jarring with the way the author structures certain sentences, it's really nice to have found a book that keeps me invested in such a unique aquatic world.

I used to always prefer series, but right now as I'm trying to get myself back into reading, I'm enjoying smaller novels. It feels like the stakes are a bit lower when I don't feel like I have a massive reading journey spanning multiple books ahead of me, and I can take it easy and hop from genre to genre to find what interests me again. It's also very rewarding to finish shorter books, as I had a long period of time when I couldn't finish a book at all.

On Wednesday, I read some Let's Plays while grinding in the Coli. My Coli connection was a bit slow in the morning, so I had time to read more of the Kartia screenshot LP. In the evening, I watched a Ni no Kuni video LP. Tried to read the dialogue, since the player wasn't reading it aloud and just letting it scroll past, but it didn't really grab me. I ended up just glancing at the screen from time to time, and only really paying attention during cutscenes with voice acting. x'D

Do you prefer shorter or longer books? Series or standalone?
No strong preference; it really depends on the story or stories being told. If the story wraps up in a satisfying way, I wouldn't mind reading it as a standalone. Similarly, if it's a series, I wouldn't mind a super-long story being told over the course of several books, provided they're interesting enough to hold my attention and justify the expense of buying the rest of the series. I know there've been a handful of times I bought the first couple of books in a series, then realized I wasn't interested in seeing how things ended.

Daily Reading: I finished reading The End of Everything! It was good, there was a lot I learned about particle physics that I wasn't expecting, and I wonder how accessible it is for a non-specialist audience.

QOTD: I prefer longer books, but standalones. Getting into a series now is pretty daunting.

I finished There There today and. WOW? IT JUST ENDS LIKE THAT? IT JUST ENDS? I know when my mom recc'd it to me she said she was surprised by the ending and wanted to know more but I didn't think she meant it like that ;u; . wow. man. what an emotional read.

As far as books go, I honestly don't think I really have a preference for standalone over series! I think my library is pretty evenly split between them. I'm not sure about length though- since I read so many webcomics and physical comics, I think page range is a bit skewed as far as my stats go lol. I do know I tend to read stuff that's 300-400pgs. But I also tend to read Sci-Fi and Fantasy and that usually is longer I feel. Super long stuff though is less appealing to me I don't like feeling like I've got something the size of my laptop. Especially when I can stuff two books in my bag to match the size haha.

Daily reading: Short of time, so popped over to read more Letters from Exalts. There were 3 since I last visited; I especially liked Carnix!

Edited: I just realized I was reading otherwise too, rereading a section of a book called "Moon of the Turning Leaves" by Waubeshing Rice, where one of the characters says goodbye, and the events that led to it. It was an emotional segment, and I appreciated how well it was all portrayed.

Daily question: I generally prefer books that aren't too long (though I DID enjoy Priory of the Orange Tree!) but have room for plot and character development. When I find something good, I usually hope for a sequel, and if it turns into a series, so much the better! I like when the books can stand alone, though. The best ones give just enough background to keep you from getting lost, but not so much recap it's like reading the same story again before you can get to the meat of the new one, if that makes sense. That's especially nice if I'm reading more than one thing at a time....

read some research about hurricane Katrina response really fun knowing that contractors where in charge of saving ppl instead of yknow the federal gov [emoji=ridgeback deadpan size=1]. Do you prefer shorter or longer books? Series or standalone? now in terms of comics and manga i like longer series not hard to catch up and it means i get to see more of the artists work. purely text novel it really depends but a good standalone is better than a series since i don't really have time to read a long series(like i've barely dented Count of Monte Cristo so yknow)

Today I read the rules & regulations-type document for a club I'm thinking about joining

Wednesday - Do you prefer shorter or longer books? Series or standalone?

Ridiculously self-contradictory about this. I prefer shorter standalone stuff because it's less commitment; long stuff is too much to get involved in. Then when I do like the short stuff I wish it'd been longer so I could keep enjoying it XD

Read on some Cold War events today in history! (taking a class I haven't yet, got a younger grade in it and it be awful)
Mentioned the 18th parallel, proxy battles, containment. Love history.

I like book series, kinda like watching a show but you can read it n' the episodes are longer, more possibilities with the imagination. Love making theories for the books after too!
