I briefly saw the post before the change, so I am prepared for this. I've been waiting for this moment.

One of the first and few musicals I've seen live was Wicked. Of course, the version I'm familiar with was the German one, which I remember as being amazing. Was that just nostalgia?, I wondered.
So, I re-listened to the German version and compared it to the original. And I gotta agree with a lot of comments under the German videos: As great as the English one is, the German one has an energy that original doesn't quite match.

So, without further ado, let me introduce you to a few songs from the German Wicked soundtrack.

As someone who went to a performing arts secondary school and university, I feel qualified to answer this prompt. Here are some of my favourite songs from two of my favourite musicals, Spring Awakening and Hadestown. Spring Awakening is a rock musical based off of the play by Frank Wedekind, Spring Awakening: A Children's Tragedy. It critiques 19th century German society and how hyper-religion and sexual-adversion harms children. Hadestown is a retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, set in a Great Depression backdrop with allegories towards climate change.

Touch Me - Spring Awakening
An absolutely incredible company song, where the children begin to express their developing sexual feelings. All of the actors are played by adults.
https://youtu.be/WGcX2ejeNYg?si=HlCNNO-EwtgkVUcB

Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind - Spring Awakening
My absolutely favourite polyphonic duet in musical theatre. Moritz is wrestling with suicidal ideation after he fails an exam and is kicked out of school (He was set up, he actually passed), and Ilse is trying to reach through to him while reminiscing of the time they spent together playing as younger children.
https://youtu.be/mJtjgFF9l-4?si=OX-3iNLKsKU5OZTj

Wait for Me (Reprise) - Hadestown
One of the final songs in Hadestown. Orpheus and Eurydice are now about to attempt to leave the underworld, having been let go by Hades, with one condition. On their way back up the stairs to the overworld, Orpheus must walk in front of Eurydice without turning to look behind him to make sure she is there. He may only turn around to look at her once they both have returned to the land of the living. Eva Noblezada has an amazing belting moment at the end of the song.
https://youtu.be/8u1vfsNpVpA?si=iqeeBmnpYy65Sw0I

Chant - Hadestown
The introduction to the underworld as Persephone is taken back early to Hadestown with Hades. Autumn is skipped and winter begins in the overworld. A storm begins to form, leaving Eurydice hungry and freezing as Orpheus works on a song to fix the out-of-balance seasons. Another great full company song as the overworld and Hadestown are paralleled, and a lot goes wrong.
https://youtu.be/4bheXkre0yM?si=w6f-oBmRUJu2peKH

When the Chips Are Down - Hadestown
Eurydice is starving, and the three sisters of fate coerce her to take a deal given by Hades. If she joins Hades in Hadestown, she won't starve or freeze to death.

Scuttling in on all fours. Did someone say musicals? I'm gonna try limiting myself here to one song from a few of my favorite shows

More Than This - Pulp Musicals
An iconic song from a hidden gem of a musical. It's a radio-play style show, so all you need is the soundtrack and a few hours of spare time. There's three episodes of it so far, with more on the way. If I had to recommend one show from this list, it would be Pulp. This one's the only song on YouTube though, the rest is on Spotify.

Nerdy Prudes Must Die - Nerdy Prudes Must Die
Can't link this one here, but a very good act 1 closer. Essentially, some needs play a "prank" on their high school bully, end up accidentally killing him, and then his ghost comes back to kill them. This scene is him taking his first victim.

Black Friday - Black Friday
By the same people who made NPMD, this is a musical about Black Friday riots, turned into a cult worshipping a plushie. This song specifically is from the pov of one of the toy store workers, near death, reflecting on things, including her little sister, who is in the same mall with one of those plushies and being hunted down for it. I used too many commas there oops

Let it Out - The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals
Once again by the same people as NPMD and BF, the whole show is about an outbreak of singing alien zombies, and our main character is a normal guy who just happens to not like musicals. This song's from the climax of the show, when he goes to take down their hivemind at the source.

Home - Beetlejuice
They turned Beetlejuice into a musical, and it's one of the best damn musicals I've seen. It has a lot of diversions from the original plot, like in this song. Here, Lydia is in the Netherworld, trying to find her dead mom.

no worries @vibingfrogfolk !! more time to prepare hehe:
You’ll Be Back - Hamilton
one of the first musicals i saw and instantly fell in love with this song! additionally, if you watch the musical on disney plus (or with the original cast on broadway) the acting is wonderful for this song :)

Ex-Wives - Six The Musical
i have little reasoning for this song other than it’s an absolute banger :) all the songs in six are wonderful, but the opener is always a good one, no matter the mood.

I haven't seen a musical in over a decade but I do listen to a few albums that are musical-esk stories, which I choose to count for the purposes of sharing:
  1. Skywriter - Deadhorse (Deluxe Edition) by Dirt Poor Robins
  2. I Don't Know - Ghost Quartet
    • This one actually had a theater piece. The album as a whole is also incredibly weird.
  3. Life is a Game - Adventures from the Ocean of the Dead by Michelle Cross
    • I've been obsessed with this album recently. The whole thing is a fun little odyssey
  4. Black Mamba - Bone Crown by Marah in the Mainsail
  5. Light Up The Night - Act II: The Father of Death by The Protomen
    • Act II: The Father of Death is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's a megaman rock opera. I know literally nothing else about megaman but this goes super hard.

1. To Life - Fiddler on the Roof (Motion Picture ver.) | Spotify | Scene on YT
Listen. Listen. I'd put the entire movie on here if I could. There's so many amazing moments in this film and I am heavily biased as I grew up watching it quite often. I do believe that To Life out of all moments does an amazing job emphasizing the growing tension in Anatevka.

2. Tevye's Dream - Fiddler on the Roof (Motion Picture ver.) | Spotify | Scene on YT
I also have to share what has always been the most memorable scene of this entire film. Never been able to get it out of my head, it lives here rent-free. Not to mention Fruma Sarah's vocals are just so so fun.

May add more soon...ish... I seem to have spontaneously gained a playlist of musicals to watch in my spare time that I'll likely be working through soon while stuck in Coli...

After aggressively looking through my likes, I grabbed a few that I think could work.

1. party at club bug!-spellcasting
*Besides the title, I think this feels pretty accurate! It makes me want to wiggle around in the dirt.

2. WHERE ARE THEY NOW???-emily jeffri
*The album it comes from is fittingly named "SOUNDTRACK FOR AN 80'S HORROR MOVIE." It feels like I'm in danger!

3. Creature-CALYPSO
*Horror movie vibes. Creepy.

4. Only Somewhat Seen-Ghost and Pals.
*It feels so sad and somber. It's something you'd hear in an abandoned house and it still has remnants of who once lived their.
