if you unlock an apparel slot it applies to all your dragons going forwards- you permanently have another slot for apparel! It’s definitely a good investment if you plan on making lots of outfits and dressing your dragons up.
There are a bunch of guides (on the guides forum) for how to max out the fairgrounds relatively quickly, if you do that for a few days you should be able to afford the snapper breed change scroll. Good luck :)
