I've always loved gem genes and strived to have those genes in my lair, so more gem genes means a wide variety of genes I can stick on my pre established breeding pairs and have at least a 50% chance of them showing in their babies.
Its wonderful to have a gem primary and secondary that play with colors. I love the variety of accent colors in them and how they've opened up a whole new range of pretty color combos. There are so many new, pretty, and rare combos to breed for for, and I'm up for the challenge [emoji=heart size=1]

They're my new favourite genes. I've bought several of them for dragons I had already like my custom progen, and I bought two new dragons with them for breeding. I'd have more but they're super expensive and I'm low on lair slots.

I'm also a fan of them, they took a while to grow on me, but I just enjoy all the colours they bring in. Personally together I find them a bit much (this isn't unusual for me though, I tend to find a lot of gene pairs together a bit too much, such as Star/con and Jag/Rose for example) - so I've tended to find dragons that have one or the other that I enjoy more than both of them together.
I also enjoy them particularly with a nice stained tert; but then I'm a sucker for stained so xDD
Echoing the sentiment that they are popular genes, but as they're gem genes, they're on the pricier side & they are also fairly new, so they've not had as much time to filter through the generations as such yet.
Probably the reason you see more Sandsurge with it is their genes are half the price of the Modern equivalent :P

i personally really adore Jester and Harlequin,, i think the patterns look very bright and bold with the right color combo and tert gene! i think it's less popular because it's a newer gene and costs gems but there are plenty of good jest/harle dragons in the AH to buy too!
i don't own any myself yet but i do have plans to gene one of my dragons with them in the future!
