What she had expected them to find was any number of things but what was actually there: a disaster of catastrophic proportions looming over the land of Sornieth. Upon receiving the news, she began making preparations to go underground and informed the rest of her clan. To her surprise, three dragons volunteered to join the effort to stop this emerging threat: Stardust, eager to give the chaos magic coursing through his veins an outlet; Wind, who yearned for adventure against her better judgment, her phoenix familiar and their shared magic at her side; and Xanthei, his body newly restored from his centuries-old metal prison, hoping to make proud the deity who had granted his request for a new life. There were objections, of course: the clan's three most powerful mages wanted to embark on what might as well be a suicide mission. And these dragons didn't just exist in a vacuum. They had [i]friends[/i]. Lovers. Bonds that couldn't just be shrugged off in favor of rushing headlong into battle with a literal abomination of the natural order of life and magic. But the pleas of their clanmates, while acknowledged, did nothing to dissuade them. After many tension-filled, fearful goodbyes, the three dragons set off on their journey to Dragonhome, well aware that they might not be coming back. ----- [size=2]An additional note: is it actually a real possibility that our characters may die in this adventure? I had bad experiences with the Dragonology CYOA books when I was little and want to be Emotionally Prepared™ to deal with my dragons dying lmao [/size]

Yep-- unless someone else slides on in, you'll be the last entrant! At the moment, we have 9 Warriors, 6 Casters, 16 Researchers (wow, y'all liked that one!), and 7 Clerics. Enter wherever you like, though!

Nope-- although your dragons may be imperiled (since it wouldn't be a good story without a little tension here and there), I'm absolutely not gonna kill off any of your dragons. That'd be pretty annoying for both me and the rest of y'all: me for recordkeeping, and y'all since A. your dragon would be dead, that sucks, and B. if I kill all your dragons you can't play any more, or you'd have to enter in a new dragon that could possibly die. Lose-lose situation all around.

Suffice to say this isn't quite structured like a traditional paperback CYOA, where you can occasionally get a "bad ending" and then go back a few pages-- that'd be kind of unfeasible for a play-by-post sort of game.

Understood, thank you for clarifying! I hadn’t considered all of the issues it would cause, but they seem obvious now that you’ve mentioned it (not to mention the no-backtracking part,,, 7 year-old me would have been very stressed about not being able to memorize their way to a good ending)
In any case, it’s been forever since the last time I got to engage with this style of storytelling so I’m very excited for this adventure. :3

It'd be pretty tough for me to pinpoint an exact start date, so instead of setting one and having to constantly move it, I'll keep it vague for now. However, I will ping the lot of y'all [b]one week[/b] before the finalized entry date! I'm really sorry I couldn't be more consistent with this. However, as a reward for your patience, I am [b]significantly expanding the raffle prizes![/b] There will now be a total of 39 raffle prizes-- that's the same as the number of participants, so everyone wins something! If more people sneak in after this pseudo-closing period, I'll add more prizes; if anyone drops out or goes inactive, there'll be the option for some of y'all to win twice (provided everyone else wins once first). I'll be editing them in gradually-- check back every so often! (Also, FYI, I might need a touch of inspiration for a prize or two, so if you have anything you really want you can just subtly slide in a post mentioning it. Just sayin'.)
