TOPIC | Interest check: Sornieth Field Guide
I'm writing a lore guide to the species of Sornieth. Each species will have a section, with a few paragraphs and some related items. Everything will be 100% from canon lore, just organized in one place. This is to check how many people would want to read and use a guide like this. Please comment with feedback, suggestions, or support. The following is a sample of what I've written so far. The Sornieth Field Guide (incomplete) Aviar An intelligent, bipedal, avian species with four limbs. Aviar are similar in appearance to raptorik, but are smaller in size, have wings fused to their arms rather than separate, and have no external ears. Though sapient, they are not widespread enough to be considered one of the Beastclans. They are not capable of flight, but can use their wings to glide. They have complex vocal chords that allow them to mimic sounds. Aviar can be found at Harpy's Roost. [item=Renegade Aviar][item=Bluemoon Aviar] [item=Aviar Cave Painting][item=Aviar Fragment] Capricat A feline creature with horns, hooves on its front legs, and goatlike eyes. Capricats have been domesticated as familiars and pets by dragons. They meticulously groom their thick fur. Capricats are capable of eating nearly anything, and may even eat their food, metal can and all. [item=Longhorn Capricat][item=Prancing Capricat] Centaur A mammalian Beastclan, with a humanoid appearance from the waist up and the body of a horse. Unlike most Beastclans, centaurs are for the most part friendly to dragon clans. Centaurs are known for their skill in archery, textiles, and music. Centaur herds are made up of a group of family units, each with its own home (usually a wooden lodge). The makeup of these families change often, as individual centaurs move around. Due to their alliance and trade with dragonkind, many centaurs are taken as apprentices in elemental magic. The Dunhoof clan, which most centaurs are a part of, is friendly to dragonkind. Recently, other clans have split off from the Dunhoof, joining the battle against the dragons. These groups are named after their founders: the Wintermane clan is named after the leader of the herd, rather than the color of their manes (although members of this clan often do have white hair). Another clan is the Swiftfoot herd, which inhabits the Forgotten Cave. Swiftfoot warriors wear distinctive sashes. In Thunderhead Savanna, centaurs have been spotted that are unusually short in stature, with their equine half resembling a pony rather than a horse. Centaur archers possess incredible skill. Many begin their training before they can read. Much centaur weaponry, including arrows, are crafted from onyx. Some centaurs paint their coats before going into battle. There are notable populations of centaurs in Everbloom Gardens, the Gladeveins, Wispwillow Grove, Foxfire Bramble, the Hewn City, Starwood Strand, Focal Point, and Snowsquall Tundra. Chimera are dangerous creatures to fight. They are capable of interbreeding with species that are part of their composition. Wild chimera live in prides, which will attack anyone wearing the hide of a chimera. Chimera are kept by the longnecks of the Arena to use in gladiator's battles. Ashmane chimera- which have shaggy grey fur, rounded horns, and cobra tails- are only found in parts of the Starfall Isles where Beastclans dwell. This may be a clue to how they are created. Chimera fangs supposedly have mystical properties. Their pelts are difficult to tan, since they have a tendency to break apart. The common variety of chimera can be found in the Light, Ice, Arcane, Nature, and Wind territories, while darktouched chimera can be found in Ice, Shadow, Plague, and Water. [item=Chimera][item=Darktouched Chimera][item=Bengal Chimera][item=Ashmane Chimera] [item=Chimera Fangs][item=Chimera Hide][item=Chimera Pelt][item=Chimera Relic] Corven A bipedal avian Beastclan, similar to raptorik and aviar. Corven resemble anthropomorphic crows, with two arma, two legs, and wings. They coexist in settlements with raptorik, and the two species are collectively known as Talonok. While raptorik serve as warriors and hunters, corven act as gatherers and spiritual leaders in talonok clans. As well as gathering food and ritual materials, they lead the clan in songs and scripture. Some corven who delve too deep into occult matters go insane and abandon their clan. These corven are known as tengu, and wander the wilderness during the night. Corven sculpt huts out of mud, which they and the raptorik share. They live mostly on plains or near rivers. Some corven clans in the Tangled Wood provide tarot readings for dragon clans, in exchange for supplies. There are notable populations of talonok in the Viridian Labyrinth, around the Pillar of the World, parts of the Abiding Boneyard, Wispwillow Grove, Starwood Strand, Zephyr Steppes, and the Twisting Crescendo. Depin can be found in Fishspine Reef, where they have an uncontested source of food; they are able to process the poison found in many of the fish in the Reef. A depin's skin is poisonous, and their hide should be handled carefully. Their frills are used to signal aggression. [item=Depin][item=Corrosive Depin] [item=Depin Hide][item=Corrosive Depin Hide] Dryad An intelligent humanoid creature, covered with leaves and wood from various plants. Dryads are mysterious, reclusive beings, that live in small groups in secluded groves. Their physical and behavioral traits vary widely between individuals. Dryad have been seen to have the following characteristics, although they may lack some or all of them depending on their habitat: they may sleep through the winter, only stay awake during the day, change the color of their foliage with the seasons, protect local flora and fauna, become allies with nature dragon clans, or guide trespassers into traps. Frostbite dryads are one type of dryad, which live in cold regions and attack travelers weakened by the cold. Two of the best-known dryad clans are on the Woodland Path, and in Blooming Grove. Ghost-painted ferns, a type of plant that has brightly colored orange leaves, are commonly mistaken for a sign of angry dryads in the area. They are actually naturally occurring. Garden lace is a type of fungus that grows on the branches of trees only when there are dryads nearby. Dryads may warn dragon clans that they have settled too close to a grove by leaving a fungus-covered branch at the entrance to the lair. There is a type of fungus called "dryad's saddle", which is the subject of a legend about the consequences of attempting to saddle a dryad. Dryads create creatures called wood ear deer, which resemble deer made out of wood and plant life. These constructs assist in guarding the grove. When a season has passed, they change color and become even more dangerous. At this stage, they are called white rot deer. Duskflappers are found at Volcanic Vents, and developed their armor to protect against falling rocks and molten debris. Spectral duskflappers are a variant with a bright blue hide, which were bioengineered by unknown creators. These duskflappers undergo internal combustion, which can cause them to explode. Duskflapper scales are very thick and hard, so they can be used in the construction of armor and arrowheads. The vampire bats of Volcanic Vents feed mainly on the blood of duskflappers. [item=Armored Duskflapper][item=Spectral Duskflapper] [item=Armored Scales][item=Spectral Scales][item=Vampire Bat] Faun An intelligent humanoid species with the hooves, horns, and tail of a goat. Fauns are mysterious, mischievous creatures which mainly live in thick woodland areas. Though sapient, they are not widespread enough to be considered one of the Beastclans. The fauns of Blooming Grove use flutes to lead passersby through the forest, although their guidance is not always trustworthy. The fauns living in the Sunbeam Ruins serve as diplomats between dragon clans, but many have a tendency to spread misinformation in an effort to break alliances. [item=Grove Piper][item=Spotted Faun][item=Luminous Ambassador][item=Mistyhollow Agent] [item=Flute][item=Wooden Flute] Fiendcat A feline predator with stones and magical fire on its back. Fiendcat flame can be either green or orange. They are ambush hunters, and one of the only feral predators to cook their food, although this usually happens as an indirect result of being pounced on by a fiendcat. An ill fiendcat will produce smoke from its back, rather than flames. Fiendcats produce glowing embers that last for weeks. These embers are collected by dragons and serthis to use as a heat source. They are primarily found at Volcanic Vents. [item=Fiendcat][item=Flamerest Fiendcat] [item=Pulsating Green Embers][item=Flamerest Embers] Fox rat A rodent with large ears and thick fur. Fox rats are sometimes kept as pets by dragons. They come in two varieties: downy fox rats, which have tan fur and may sometimes infest the walls of lairs, and fawn fox rats, which are hunted for their very soft, blue-black fur. [item=Downy Fox Rat][item=Fawn Fox Rat] Fungi sage An intelligent species of fungi with a humanoid shape. Fungi sages rarely interact with dragon clans, due to their rarity and disinterest in the affairs of dragons. Though sapient, they are not widespread enough to be considered one of the Beastclans. They are nocturnal, and mainly found in Blooming Grove. Fungi sages have caps on their heads, which can sometimes be found left behind; however, they are never seen without one. [item=Fungi Sage][item=Moonlight Fungi] [item=Sage Shell][item=Glowing Mushroom Cap] Grinfin See Hydrena Hainu A canine with feathered wings, capable of flight. Hainu have been domesticated by dragons, and can be found in many different breeds. Wild hainu also exist, primarily living at Bamboo Falls. Wild hainu are larger than the domesticated breeds, which are nearly all types of dwarf hainu, and resist all efforts to train them; they are notorious for slipping out of collars. Each hainu flock migrates every year in a V-shaped formation, with the alpha taking the position in front. Domestic hainu are playful and rambunctious. They can be trained to do tricks, and make excellent pets for hatchlings. Most breeds are more brightly colored than wild hainu; brightwing dwarf hainu sometimes become captivated by the colors of their own wings. Tricolor yappers, hainu with black, orange, and tan patches, are prone to loud barking. Other breeds include the dwarf hainu macaw, and the barking jester. [item=Hainu][item=Red-breasted Hainu][item=Brightwing Dwarf Hainu][item=Dwarf Hainu Macaw][item=Tricolor Yapper][item=Barking Jester] [item=Hainu Collar][item=Black Hainu Collar][item=Hainu's Eye] Harpy An avian-humanoid Beastclan with the appearance of a feathered human, with wings instead of arms and powerful talons. They are capable of flight, but can also carry and use tools and weapons with the clawed hands on their wings. Nearly all harpies are female, and the birth of a male harpy is seen as a rare and important event. Harpies were once an artistic culture, but dragon attacks have driven them to become more warlike. After proving herself, a harpy warrior carves a beaked mask from bone, which she will wear in battle in the future. These masks serve to prevent identification of individual warriors. Harpies, previous divided into many clans, have united into a single flock with branches all over Sornieth. Matriarchs of family branches meet in council with the leader of the harpies, Talona, each season. Because of their ability to fly, harpies serve as messengers and couriers for other Beastclans. Male harpies are forbidden from becoming warriors, and are kept within harpy land at all times. Because of this, many dragons believe harpies are exclusively female. Harpy claws have great strength, and can crush bones. Some harpies trade and barter using prehnite crystals as a currency. Important harpy clans include the Stonewatch harpies, which nest in Harpy's Roost, and the Chillwind harpies, which migrated from the Southern Icefield to Volcanic Vents. The Chillwind clan includes harpies who are capable of ice magic. A few scattered clans in Starfall Isles have formed alliances with dragons, in order to learn arcane magic. The Eyes of Talona are harpy spies sent by the harpy leader herself, who claim to have defected from the flock in order to infiltrate dragon clans. Although the creation of armor is uncommon among harpies, some melee warriors use it to protect themselves. There are notable harpy populations in Reedcleft Ascent, around the Pillar of the World, in Carrion Canyon and the Lightning Farm, at the meeting of Fire, Lightning, and Water territories, at the cliff where the Sunbeam Ruins meet the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and on Sundial Terrace. They are also known as grinfins. Hydrenas have fur as well as scales, and large fins on their sides. They live in family groups in watering holes at Thunderhead Savanna, where they float in the water to stay cool. Hydrenas may leave the water to find food, and may ambush stray dragon hatchlings. [item=Rabid Grinfin][item=Heckling Hydrena] [item=Bubbly Buddy][item=Hydrena Watertoy] Kelp tender See Mammertee Kitsune An intelligent, mammalian species, resembling a fox with many tails. Both apparently quadrupedal and bipedal kitsune have been observed, so it is unclear which of the two is predominant. Some possibilities are that they are capable of using either stance, that it differs between individuals, or that they can transform between two or more forms. Kitsune are welcomed by most dragon clans on the Windswept Plateau, where they may even live close together for protection. Although the majority of kitsune are friendly, some take advantage of the trust between their species to rob dragon hoards. Many kitsune have been observed to use elemental magic, and some silver kitsune wear masks with patterns that alter with the moon's phases. [item=Golden Kitsune][item=Silver Kitsune][item=Aerborne Ambassador][item=Laybrush Larcenist] Lionsnake A feline predator resembling a lion, but with a long body and a flattened head. Lionsnakes are ambush predators, lying in wait for their prey in a coiled position before striking. They are often considered the apex predators of Thunderhead Savanna. Lionsnakes can be found in two varieties. Golden lionsnakes have glossy gold fur, and seek out their prey on foot before stalking them. Roving lionsnakes have a darker, speckled coat, and lie in wait for hours, camouflaged in thick grasses. [item=Golden Lionsnake][item=Roving Lionsnake] [item=King Quillrunner][item=Desert Diadem][item=Flatlands Tiara] Longneck A mammalian, bipedal Beastclan, resembling an anthropomorphic llama. Longnecks are mainly found in the mountains of Dragonhome, but have begun to spread elsewhere. They are herbivores for the most part, but some have begun to experiment with catching fish and other meat. According to rumors, the longnecks have a hidden settlement carved into Dragonhome's hills. Dragons have been unable to enter its closely guarded halls. Longnecks have a connection to nature, and many are known to spend time meditating. There is an ancient coliseum which has been taken over by Longnecks, who are using it as an arena. There, they host battles between dragons, warriors, and wild beasts for entertainment. Longnecks have been known to become magic-users, such as elemental mages, healers, and mediums. The longneck clans in the Southern Icefield are relatively peaceful towards dragons, and may serve as guides in the mountains and frozen tundra. Longnecks are allies with the gladiatorial sprangyroo, who are often contestants in the Arena. Longnecks have domesticated greatowls, giant owls capable of carrying a Beastclan in flight, and warcats, two-tailed great cats that can be outfitted with armor as war animals. There are notable longneck populations throughout Dragonhome, in Starwood Strand, on the border between Arcane and Plague territory, on Zephyr Steppes, in the Hewn City, in Highland Scrub, and on the Cloudscrape Crags. Mammertee are also known as kelp tenders. They are mainly found in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, where they graze on underwater plant life in kelp forests. They are capable of staying submerged for prolonged periods of time, possibly indefinitely. They are usually peaceful, and will not attack dragons; however, some mammertee will defend their herd from predators. They are sometimes mistaken by dragons for dangerous schools of maren. [item=Mammertee][item=Kelp Tender] [item=Mammertee Plushie][item=Kelp Tender Plush][item=Flowering Vulpine Plushie][item=Tadhop Beanie] Manticore An intelligent, mammalian creature with four legs and two wings. They have the appearance of a lion with a humanlike face, with batlike wings and a scorpion's tail. They are capable of flight. Though sapient, they are not widespread enough to be considered one of the Beastclans. Manticore are proud creatures, which generally rely on their strength and fighting ability in difficult situations. The manticore of previous times worshipped golden idols in the shape of lions. Some Beastclans hire manticore to perform espionage, because of their ability to move silently in thick foliage. The ancestors of manticore diverged into two groups; one of them developed into modern, intelligent manticore, and the other became proto manticores, a species resembling monkeys with wings and barbed tails. Manticore can be found in several different varieties. Dunewind manticore are black with a white mane, and have venom powerful enough to render an imperial dragon unconscious. Silvermane barbtails have grey coats that cause them to be mistaken for statues, and spend hours perfectly still, waiting for prey. At Volcanic Vents, ghost manticore, which are black and grey, and firemane manticore, which have a reddish-brown coloration, can be found. Manticore populations can also be found in Arcane, Water, and Shadow territories. [item=Manticore][item=Dunewind Manticore][item=Silvermane Barbtail][item=Ghost Manticore][item=Firemane Manticore][item=Conflagrant Ambassador][item=Manticorian Provocateur] [item=Proto Manticore][item=Manticore Screamer][item=Golden Idol][item=Glittering Bluesilver Torc][item=Brilliant Brass Torc] Maren An aquatic Beastclan with a humanoid upper body, webbed hands, gills on their necks, and a fish's tail instead of legs. They can be found in many different colors and patterns, and are incapable of breathing out of water. They live in groups, called schools. They were originally known for their architecture, and built underwater cities in freshwater lakes; however, they were driven out and forced to adapt to salt water when dragons began to invade. Because of this, many of them despise dragons. They now construct networks of underwater tunnels offshore, which they use to stay hidden and secure. They sometimes form alliances and trade with land Beastclans. Civilian maren are forbidden from venturing to the surface, because of the threat of attack by dragons. Maren fight with tridents, spears, and claws, and are known for the tactic of building immunity to a mixture of poisons, and poisoning their blood before battle to prevent bites. They can also use these poisons on their weapons. In battle, warriors defend magic users, who stay away from the front lines. Maren are sometimes known to be magic-users, by birth or by study of draconic magic; for example, some maren are capable of divination, battle magic, or the manipulation of currents. Some schools have attempted to eavesdrop on the prophecies of the Tidelord; many were driven mad trying to understand. Maren schools without a permanent home use currentfinders, specialized scouts who search for safe paths for the school. Scouts are often used when maren need to leave their city for any reason. Settlements in deep water recruit shark hunters to protect themselves from threatening aquatic creatures. It is traditional for new warriors to hunt deep sea creatures to prove themselves, and make their weapons with materials from the body of their kill. During the aftermath of the Tidelord's disappearance, some maren assisted dragon clans in the search, while others looted the destruction caused by the hurricane. Some maren have the ability to alter their coloration for camouflage, by adjusting chromatophores in their skin. A few schools have attempted to domesticate sea serpents by gathering their eggs. There are notable populations of maren in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, off the coast of Dragonhome and the Shifting Expanse, in the bay shared by Starfall Isles and the Windswept Plateau, in the river running through Sunbeam Ruins, and in the channel near the Viridian Labyrinth. Mith have thick ruffs of fur around their necks, and mothlike wings on their backs. Although they are sapient, they are not widespread enough to be considered Beastclans. Mith can be found in several different types, including the heavyset blue and red Ceanothus mith, the thick-furred poodle mith, and the rare clouded mith. Most mith are peaceful creatures that pollinate and harvest flowers; they will defend their blossoms if threatened. Some mith have become elemental magic users. There are populations of mith in Training Fields, the Golem Workshop, and scattered as symbiotes among dragon clans in the Ashfall Waste (where they assist in forging tools). The mith at the Golem Workshop use the technology found there to defend themselves, and they are growing in power. Nekomata have one eye and two tails, and sleep with their eye wide open. They have been domesticated by dragon clans. [item=Anomalous Nekomata][item=Irregular Nekomata] Parda A feline predator with some avian traits, such as a mane of feathers. Although parda lay eggs, they also nurse their young. They are found in the Rainsong Jungle. They make chirping sounds, and most are brown and tan. There is a subspecies of parda- the king parda- which is much larger, and is brightly colored in blue and green. Parda wear carved stone collars of unknown origin until they are too small to use. [item=Parda][item=King Parda] [item=Stone Collar][item=Large Stone Collar] Pohip A mammalian herbivore, resembling a hippopotamus with plant life growing on its back. Pohips are noisy creatures that spend their time lounging in ponds. They eat the flora found in the water, and the plants on their back are caused by seeds from the vegetation taking root. They may even have the stumps of trees rooted in their back. Pohips are aggressive creatures, and may be dangerous to approach. They are mainly found in the waters of Blooming Grove. [item=Flowering Pohip][item=Mossy Pohip] [item=Pohip Figurine][item=Pohip Planter] Quetzeel A long, thin predatory fish with many fins. Quetzeels are considered good luck by fishers, since they come out to hunt during the peak breeding seasons of many kinds of fish. The common quetzeel is found in deep ocean and is blue and yellow-green, but the blotched quetzeel dwells in shallow bogs and marshes. [item=Quetzeel][item=Blotched Quetzeel] Quillrunner A feline predator with quills on its shoulders and back. Quillrunners can be found on Thunderhead Savanna, where they use their speed to chase down their prey. They can absorb ambient electricity from the atmosphere, which they use to power their sprints, allowing them to run for longer and reach greater speeds. There are two varieties of quillrunners: the common one, whose coat resembles that of a cheetah, and the king quillrunner, which has a mottled grey coloration. A quillrunner's spines make it dangerous to attack. [item=Quillrunner][item=King Quillrunner] [item=Fangback Figurine][item=King of the Plains] Raptorik A bipedal avian Beastclan, capable of flight. Raptorik resemble anthropomorphic hawks, with two arms, two legs, and a pair of wings on their backs. They have large, pointed ears. They are much shorter than most Beastclans, being nearly as small as a Fae dragon. They coexist in the same groups as corven, a similar species of crowlike beings, and the two species are collectively known as Talonok. While corven are primarily gatherers and spiritual leaders, raptorik serve as warriors and hunters. They fight with all four talons, as well as short blades. Their small size and ability to fly makes them hard to spot. Raptorik are capable of imitating draconic speech. Raptorik molt regularly, at which time they become irritable and dangerous. Some dragons believe eye agate stones have the power to protect against predatory birds. Superstitious raptorik believe this as well. Talonok flocks in Bamboo Falls have an alliance with wild foo, which serve as sentries. They may bestow mantles upon foo who have been of great service. Raptorik live in low huts sculpted by corven from mud, with a perch-like room above them. They mainly inhabit plains, and areas near rivers. Some raptorik flocks in the Shifting Expanse have begun to herd animals for easier hunting, as well as guiding dragons across the savanna in exchange for payment. The Longneck Arena, an ancient building used by Beastclans as a place to hold battles between warriors, dragons, and dangerous creatures, includes raptorik as announcers and fighters. There are notable populations of talonok in the Viridian Labyrinth, around the Pillar of the World, parts of the Abiding Boneyard, Wispwillow Grove, Starwood Strand, Zephyr Steppes, and the Twisting Crescendo. A river flight is said to spend twice as much time playing as hunting, and three times as much time sleeping. They live in tunnels or caves near the water. They are incapable of flight, instead using their wings to propel themselves while swimming. They collect shiny objects, and may sneak into dragon lairs to steal treasure. River flights have begun to live in sewer systems, especially the Waterway, due to their preference for enclosed homes. Some river flights that have been in the Waterway for generations have developed extra fins and colorful crests. The most widespread type of river flight is the grey river flight, which can be found in bodies of water throughout the Shadow, Arcane, Lightning, and Water territories. [item=Grey River Flight][item=Brown River Flight][item=Crested River Flight][item=Goldfin River Flight] [item=Webbed Paw][item=Lithe Otter Pelt][item=Meaty Bat Wing] Scaleback A mammalian predator with large fangs, long ears and whiskers, and hard scales covering its back. They are found in the Sandswept Delta. They are notorious for being in a perpetual bad mood, as well as always being hungry and having a foul smell. They will attack if they are approached. Serthis come in several varieties, including the bright red Carmine and venomless Opheodrys serthis. They regularly shed their skin. Many of them possess venomous fangs, and they have quick reflexes and a natural resistance to toxins. They are known for their culture based on ruthlessness and subterfuge, and are often hired as mercenaries and assassins. Serthis clans have a tendency to fragment into smaller sects, which prevents them from killing one another off and allows them to spread into dangerous regions. Many serthis do not survive to adulthood. Serthis clans produce offspring in waves every several years. The resulting children are brought out into the wilderness in a group and left there as soon as they are able to speak. The strongest of the generation of young serthis survive, and develop into a clan of their own. When the group reaches adulthood, the parent clan merges with them, resulting in much bloodshed as the groups compete for power. Serthis tactics are based on waiting for the perfect time to attack an aggressor. Some dragon clans that settle near a hidden serthis encampment are driven out when they are at their weakest point. Recently, areas with many separate serthis clans have seen them become a single, larger group. This may be a change in strategy to make a coordinated effort to drive out dragonkind. The Flamescale clan of Volcanic Vents is one notable population of serthis; it is known for its illusionists and scholars. Some serthis are capable of becoming magic-users. Notable types of casters among serthis are Flamescale magi, who draw power from tectonic activity, and venomcasters, who combine scalding heat with poisons to use against enemies. They may also use elemental magic. There are notable populations of serthis in the Tangled Wood, on the islands between the Water and Shadow territories, on Rotrock Rim, on the border between the Arcane and Plague territories, in Carrion Canyon, at Cairnstone Rest, in the forests at the Sunbeam Ruins, and in the Shrieking Wilds. Skira are a common species, and can be found anywhere in Sornieth. They use the length of their necks and tongues to eat leaves from the tops of tall trees. Skira are said to have a natural sense of humor, since they are sometimes seen standing in the midst of a herd of rambra. They walk along predictable paths to their grazing grounds, trampling the grass on the path low for their herd to pass through. Barred skira, which have striped fur, can be found in the Shadow, Nature, Arcane, Ice, Light, or Fire territories. Bluetail skira, which spend their time lounging in ponds, have algae growing in the fur of their tails, giving them a blue tint. They can be found in the Wind, Lightning, Earth, Plague, and Water territories. At Thunderhead Savanna, two different types of skira can be found: coursing skira, which have vibrant blue stripes, and grassland skira, which are yellowish green. They are allies with longneck herds, and fight on their side in battle. Sprangyroo are common contestants in the longneck Arena, where warriors, dragons, and dangerous beasts battle for entertainment. They fight using special clawed gauntlets.

The Sornieth Field Guide (incomplete)

Aviar
An intelligent, bipedal, avian species with four limbs.

Capricat
A feline creature with horns, hooves on its front legs, and goatlike eyes. Capricats have been domesticated as familiars and pets by dragons. They meticulously groom their thick fur. Capricats are capable of eating nearly anything, and may even eat their food, metal can and all.

Centaur
A mammalian Beastclan, with a humanoid appearance from the waist up and the body of a horse.

Chimera
A feline predator with horns, hooves on its hind legs, and a serpent instead of a tail.

Corven
A bipedal avian Beastclan, similar to raptorik and aviar.

Depin
An aquatic mammalian creature resembling a seal, with colorful skin and a large fan around its neck. Depin can be found in Fishspine Reef, where they have an uncontested source of food; they are able to process the poison found in many of the fish in the Reef. A depin's skin is poisonous, and their hide should be handled carefully. Their frills are used to signal aggression.

Dryad
An intelligent humanoid creature, covered with leaves and wood from various plants.

Duskflapper
A large bat with an armored back.

Faun
An intelligent humanoid species with the hooves, horns, and tail of a goat.

Fiendcat
A feline predator with stones and magical fire on its back.

Fox rat
A rodent with large ears and thick fur. Fox rats are sometimes kept as pets by dragons. They come in two varieties: downy fox rats, which have tan fur and may sometimes infest the walls of lairs, and fawn fox rats, which are hunted for their very soft, blue-black fur.

Fungi sage
An intelligent species of fungi with a humanoid shape.

Hainu
A canine with feathered wings, capable of flight.

Harpy
An avian-humanoid Beastclan with the appearance of a feathered human, with wings instead of arms and powerful talons.

Hydrena
A mammalian species, resembling a hyena, with some fishlike traits.

Kitsune
An intelligent, mammalian species, resembling a fox with many tails.

Lionsnake
A feline predator resembling a lion, but with a long body and a flattened head.

Longneck

A mammalian, bipedal Beastclan, resembling an anthropomorphic llama.

Mammertee
An aquatic mammal, resembling a manatee.

Manticore
An intelligent, mammalian creature with four legs and two wings.

Maren
An aquatic Beastclan with a humanoid upper body, webbed hands, gills on their necks, and a fish's tail instead of legs.

Pohip
A mammalian herbivore, resembling a hippopotamus with plant life growing on its back.

Quetzeel
A long, thin predatory fish with many fins. Quetzeels are considered good luck by fishers, since they come out to hunt during the peak breeding seasons of many kinds of fish. The common quetzeel is found in deep ocean and is blue and yellow-green, but the blotched quetzeel dwells in shallow bogs and marshes.

Quillrunner
A feline predator with quills on its shoulders and back.

Raptorik
A bipedal avian Beastclan, capable of flight.

River flight
A mammalian creature resembling an otter with four eyes and small wings, that spends its time in the water.

A mammalian predator with large fangs, long ears and whiskers, and hard scales covering its back. They are found in the Sandswept Delta. They are notorious for being in a perpetual bad mood, as well as always being hungry and having a foul smell. They will attack if they are approached. Most scalebacks are grey in color, but some have iridescent scales. Unfortunately, iridescent scalebacks are just as hostile as regular ones.

Serthis
A Beastclan with a humanoid upper body, brightly colored skin, pointed ears, and a lower body resembling a snake's tail.

Skira
A mammalian herbivore with a long neck and bright coloration.

Sprangyroo
An intelligent, mammalian creature, somewhat resembling a wallaby with horns. They are bipedal, but lean forward when they stand. Most sprangyroo are gladiators and mercenaries, and they are trained to fight from the moment they can walk. They are allies with longneck herds, and fight on their side in battle.
Sprangyroo are common contestants in the longneck Arena, where warriors, dragons, and dangerous beasts battle for entertainment. They fight using special clawed gauntlets.
Sprangyroo have domesticated boran, giant reptiles that serve as war mounts. These are given spiked armor that keeps opponents from unseating the rider.

Vulstal
A vulpine creature with crystalline growths on its back. Vulstals are used as familiars by dragons. They possess some innate magic, as evidenced by how some of their crystals float near them, unattached to their bodies. Their crystals fall out as they age, and may be collected by dragons to add to their hoard.
