Currently on a quest to get a lowboy to do a lagoon/paludarium type thing for my axolotl but no luck in finding a tank in my area. So that may be a dream on old, as I turn my attentions to cycling and starting a 40gal.

I have finished adding the new substrate and am now working on adding all the plants and wood. I currently have an Amazon sword and a couple elodeas.

I finally added the first batch of plants and the rest of the wood! I finished with the new substrate a while ago. I also added some gold barbs to add some color. They school so nicely.
The elodea plant has already grown two inches in three days. The amazon sword grew two new leaves, too! I'm really happy with them. They look so much better then the fake plants.

What a beautiful tank! I really do love dark substrates and live plants together. Speaking of which, what substrate have you got the cories on? Is it Pea gravel or soil or...? Just wondering since I've always wanted cories but currently have to have gravel in my tank to keep the aquasoil down and was wondering whether it's safe to do so? I've heard that they shouldn't be kept on large, rough pieces of gravel but I've used some nylon to test whether my pea gravel is rough (in the same way that you can use nylon to test whether decorations will rip betta fins) and it didn't tear but I'm still a bit hesitant because I don't want to harm their barbels. Any advice?

I also have a 20g that holds two Azureus Tinctorius frogs, otherwise known as blue poison dart frogs. They are my babies and first pet besides fish, so they have a special place in my room. The tanks one year anniversary was Nov 28!

WeSpeakinTeeth yeah. I've seen people say it's a "no-no" to put cories on gravel. They've been living and breeding on gravel their whole lives with no issue. However, I know generally it's a poor idea to put cory cats on gravel due to barbell infections - which none of them have had but that's beside the point - so I wont be putting anymore cory cats in the tank. These ones started 8 years ago as a pack of 6, and now there's one 2. While I know this isnt ideal for them, I'm letting just the two be in the tank until they pass, since I don't want to add MORE fish to suboptimal conditions. My mom was the one who added them fo her tank before we moved. They are ancient.
I think it's really your choice in the end. I've heard it's bad but haven't personally experienced an issue.
