The Farmer: TexasRose loves nature and plants, and learns how to breed them to make wild and fantastic plants by mixing the genes, even if genes aren't quite how dragons it comes to be. To put her research to use, she starts her farm of interesting plants, foods, herbs, and flowers alike to make for her clan and to sell. The Herbalist: MilkyWay is a natural medicine doctor, using herbal remedies and such to help dragons. While he butts heads a lot with the other medical dragon in the clan, JadeStone the witch doctor, he does learn from her and TexasRose. He asks TexasRose a lot to mix herbs to make them more powerful or to have more uses. While somewhat hippy like, he is a good doctor. The Farmer: Rosso doesn't like being called 'farmer,' as it makes them sound like some sort of bumpkin. They much prefer 'gardener;' a softer, humbler title. They love growing edible plants, seeing the seeds they've sown grow into something delicious and full of the nutrients their clanmates need. They particularly enjoy growing the hot peppers and mustardy greens Persimmon so often calls for in her cooking. There might also be a tiny bit of unrequited puppy love there. He's not exactly an herbalist, as he loves all plants equally. Though, he does particularly enjoy studying the plants that have specific effects on dragons' bodies. Chamomile soothes nerves, willow cures aches and pains, hot peppers flush parasites and clear sinuses. He's always got something new he's looking into and is always looking for brave dragons willing to try whatever he's gotten his claws into. And funny enough, Mudd is the one Rosso is finding themselves having to compete with for the affections of a certain cook. Mudd could not be more oblivious to any of this. I'll sometimes find a perch and watch the Sanctuary's Master-at-Arms work. Dress wounds as needed. Care for others, as others have come to care for me. Now I'm even known to crack a joke or two, though Aslan tells me in secret that they need a little workshopping. More importantly, I found a place with others like me—dragons who were wanderers. Dragons who endured enslavement. Those reluctant to bare themselves to others. Those cast aside. Much like the tundra brush, it's with these dragons that I feel a kinship. And like the plants, I work to see them nurture and grow, and grow myself alongside them. For now I remain in the Sanctuary, learning more every day. The Master-at-Arms has told me that once I am ready, he wishes to take me to the Coliseum to better my training and knowledge. I am so lucky to have such good friends who are so accepting of me! Swimming is among my favorite hobbies and luckily for me, there are amazing plants and berries to be found hear the water's edge. I can fly through the water better than I can fly through the air because of my wing and the shape it's in. Now that I truly think about it, that may be the whole reason I like being a gardener! [nextcol]Back Story My memories of being a hatchling come to me in snatches and snippets. I remember sweeping cliffsides and icy winds. I remember two brothers—they're gone now. Most of all, I remember getting it into my head that I led a miserable existence. I remember fanning my wings and rearing like a Firebird, and poising myself at the precipice of my parents' lair, and then falling. Funnily enough, what I remember most is watching the mountainside brush on my descent—if they could live so contentedly on the cliff face, why couldn't I? When I next awoke, it was to a glowing hearth and strange faces. A scout from a nearby clan had found me tangled up in some lowland bramble, horribly mangled, but alive. I believe to this day that it saved my life. Left me with a bit of a gimpy wing, though. I can still fly, of course, but learning it was a hard-fought battle, and I always favor my left. Nothing wrong with a bit of banking, though, right? I prefer to keep close to the ground, anyway. (You wouldn't know it by looking at me, but I'm also an excellent swimmer.) If you can believe it, I look back at my seasons in the Southern Icefield with fondness. In times of unending sun, I would bask in its radiance; I would follow its path across the glittering tundras and towering glaciers for days at a time, in what I would affectionately refer to as “field expeditions”. From the starchiest of snow cacti to the delicate Winter's Delight, every specimen was an epiphany. I suppose I felt a sort of kinship with the southerly flora—it's rare that you find one of my breed so at ease with the chill, and I'd never really felt the call to the Emberglow Hearth. Wed to my passions, I suppose. My mate Aslan jokes that I'm so named for my sour disposition, but it's not that I prefer plants to other dragons per se. It's just that I find them a lot more agreeable. And less inclined to stare at you funny. But I wasn't content to wander the snowfields for the rest of my years. Something more than my fledgling instinct drove me. A sort of yearning—a desire to see and hear and smell all the life that Sornieth had to offer, and in retrospect, I realize, perhaps a desire to mate. On the outset of my journey, a clan elder presented me with a parting gift that would make most adolescents balk: a seed pouch. But as it happened, I was able to amass a little “hoard” in my travels. Tulips, treefruits, berries—where I couldn't grow them, I would forage, and where I couldn't forage, I would grow them. Tilling the soil with my claws, carving grooves with my tail, I drew other dragons' interest, and the occasional proposition, wherever I would stake my turf for the season. It must have been a romantic notion to my suitors: to them, I must have seemed quite the “ice queen”, as taciturn as I was, and I eventually grew to embrace the reputation. It wasn't until I found myself at Scrubbie's lair that this all changed. There, I found a curious warmth—complete and unconditional acceptance of all my eccentricities. And when Aslan confessed to me that he found me beautiful, I believe he meant it. Back Story Written By: msnoodles Hi there I am Theo
