Ankou was named after the spirits in Celtic lore that leads lost souls to the underworld, and protects the parish he died at. For my Ankou, he wanders the Tundras at night, finding lost or dying dragons stuck in the snow. He'll either lead them to safety, or release their soul and walk with them to the other side. While he was wandering, he found my Clan, Istas, and decided to stay since our cave is in the middle of the Tundra. Like Juniper, Ankou is a loner in the clan, considering most dragons know what he is and are wary of him. In the legends, if you crossed an Ankou you would die the next morning, or you'd receive a warning by your hair turning white. In order to avoid such fates, everyone gives him a wide berth.
Because Juniper is head of the Night Guard, though, he has the same "schedule" as Ankou, and runs into him on his patrols a lot. Ankou noticed that Juniper doesn't avoid him, but instead walks with him, sometimes helping the spirit save dragons stuck in avalanches. When Juniper is on post, Ankou will usually sit with him, just to have company. Neither of them really talk, and Juniper is almost always reading, but neither of them mind. It's a comfortable kind of silence.
Juniper doesn't really have friends, because he has a dedication to truth and justice and it makes him abrasive at times. But he likes Ankou. And the spirit, even though he's dead, developed an attachment to Juniper. Ankou wants to protect him, and feels the need to be close to him. It's interesting, since all the other spirits have lost their ability to feel, but somehow he's held onto his "humanity."
So, Ankou has a crush on Juniper, but since Juniper is dumb and doesn't understand that anyone would like him, he doesn't even notice. But I have plans to change that soon ;) I'll give my dead child love no matter what. I must protect my babies
