There are whispers going around that Discord will no longer be a suitable option for image hosting.
Discord is implementing request signatures that will limit the amount of time they are accessible for. The images will remain on the servers but links to files will time out after an allotted period.
OP of the post linked above received the information from a pluralkit dev who has direct contact with Discord staff.
Alternative image hosts:
I know a lot of people on FR use Discord as an image host so I wanted to get the word out!
Thank you!

This really sucks, I have a bunch of things in there and organized.
Could someone let me know how organization is on Imgur?

Is there an official announcement from Discord that this is what they are planning to do? I don't want to cause premature panic.

That's too bad if this is true :(
I don't use Discord often to host (except for things that are okay with limited timeframes) but ik many people recommended it.
I'm also going to say Tumblr works as a hosting site!
You'd also need an account on there though.
For users who don't like posting things on public social spaces: Imgur does let you post privately! I've had my account private since I started using it to host and never encountered any issues

Jesus christ. Genuinely it is already a HUGE pain to upload images onto FR because you need a stupid link, this is just making life a hundred times harder. I'm gonna stop doing anything that'd need me to upload images on here at this point.

No announcement yet, but devs (like pluralkit) get a heads up ahead of time and you can already see the initial stage - the extra information on the end of image links generated by discord (that is currently optional).
It's not a surprising move either - image hosting is expensive and discord has never billed itself as such (and likely did not anticipate people using it for mass image hosting and hottlinking)

Ugh, thanks for the reminder. Least I stilll have the images themselves on Discord, even if they don't work on fr, switching hosts willl be a pain though. Ah welll

I see--then that will certainly be an issue in the future. I suppose I should get around to making an imgur account at some point, then.

Discord has not officially announced this specific measure yet but they has already began adding request signatures so it likely isn't far off.
I do trust the pluralkit dev who has spoken on this though as they have direct contact with Discord staff and are currently working with them to find out solutions for their system.

This is a huge kick to the chest towards artists, especially those that make adoptables, in case this becomes real.
A good example of this impacting in a negative fashion: I heard from the grapevine that Earth's Dom adopts (turtles) are hosted from Discord... and there are like 25,000 combinations... I actually feel bad.
...yeah.
