So I thought it fitting to start off with what is widely accepted to be the first science fiction movie ever made - [i]Le Voyage dans la lune[/i], also known as [i]A Trip to the Moon[/i]. Released in 1902, [i]A Trip to the Moon[/i] follows a group of men as they fly in a rocketship to the moon and encounter living stars, plant life and aliens. Let me say this now - it’s very cheesy and tacky, but it’s also really cool and beautiful considering its time period. As I said before, it is considered the first science fiction movie out there, likely acting as a foundation for other movies of the genre to follow. [i]A Trip to the Moon[/i] is on Netflix, both in black and white and the color version, in which each frame was meticulously painted. The movie is only about twelve minutes long, so it won’t take you much time to watch it, so I implore you to go watch it if you can, it really is piece of history. [/indent] [/columns] _________________________________________________________________________________ [columns][center][b][size=5]The Awesome Thing About Light in Space[/size][/b][/center] Have you ever wanted to be able to look back in time? Well every time you look up at the stars you are doing just that! Light takes time to travel the vast distances in space, so for objects that are far away, when you look up, you are seeing the light that left that object seconds, minutes, or years ago. Here's an example - did you know that whenever you look at the moon you are seeing it as it was one second ago? What about the Sun? You always see that eight minutes in the past because the sun is eight light minutes from Earth. This may not seem like a lot, but for the stars, the closest one being about 93 million miles, or 150 million kilometers away, it can take decades or even hundreds of years for their light to reach Earth. So whenever you look up at the stars just remember this - every time you look up at the night sky, all you see are ghosts.
