No, the world is not coming to an end, in about four billion years our own galaxy will collide with Andromeda, another neighboring galaxy. Despite them “colliding”, very few stars, if any, will collide, simply due to the fact of the huge distances between them. No, that isn’t a codeword for some top secret operation, rather the oldest galaxy ever found. Spotted by Hubble in March, the discovery of this galaxy broke the cosmic distance record, and allowed us to look back 13.4 billion years into our galaxy’s past. That’s right, this newly-found galaxy is 13.4 billion years old, we can see it as it was only 400 million years after the big bang. Before this, the oldest known galaxy was 13.2 billion years old. This may not seem like a huge difference, but it shows just how much we can learn, and how far we can peer into the past. Throughout our universe,everything is constantly in motion, and that means that, inevitably, some things are going to collide. This can happen at a much larger scale than just dust particles, or the occasional rock, whole galaxies can collide. And did you know that that is going to happen to our own galaxy?

The laws of physics can never be violated. Right? Well a new space engine greys the boundary between what can and cannot be done, according to these laws. The EmDrive, as it is called, utilizes microwaves to create thrust, by bouncing them around in a cone-shaped chamber.

More often than not, satellites and space stations seem unimaginably far away, but did you know that you can spot one from your own backyard? The ISS, or International Space Station, is easily visible if you are willing stay up late enough.


Appearing as a small spot of light in sky, it’s fascinating to think that there are people up there. You have to be quick, as it only takes a few minutes for the ISS to dart from one side of the sky to the other, but it’s amazing to see something that looks like a star, actually be something manmade, showing just how far we’ve come in the last 100 years.
