yes! all the time. I do collect g1s as well, but I have a lot of OC/sona dragons and typically their colors need to be very matchy so I tend to go for g2+ first.
Plus, geneing a dragon tends to solidify my attachment to them. It doesn't depend on their generation, it depends on whether I've put in the effort to really make this dragon "mine". I love all my silly guys because they're something I had a hand in creating.

All the time all the time. I like some color combos that are rare, so if I want to see certain genes on certain breeds in those colors, I just do it myself.

Absolutely. All that matters is if it looks good, I'll get the money for it eventually. sometimes, i plan to give an auraboa i currently have in my hibden a different gene cause he just doesn't do it with mochlus, and he's a lineage dragon so i can't just exalt him!

yup! especially if it's fodder saving, or if i was given the dragon for free. however one of my FAVORITE dragons is a girl i grabbed after the valentine's genes were revealed because i wanted to use them and i was looking for the perfect colors.

I definitely apply genes to g2+, I think most of the genes I have on my wishlist are for non g1s! I have several dragons who I wanted to have specific looks, or who I liked the colors on but not the genes, and decided to give them some love. This girl here was basic/toxin/underbelly when I bred her years and years ago, but I liked the colors so I kept her hoping to maybe get her some better genes eventually, finally I did a few months ago and I think she looks really pretty!!

I also just recently finished a breeding project for [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/92498546]a Miller fandragon,[/url] and with his weird color combo (soil/chocolate/lapis) I knew there wasn't really gonna be an easy way to get the genes I wanted so I'm just gonna gene him up eventually. I've got a breeding project for [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/scrying/predict?morph=4093359]another OC fandragon[/url] in the works rn actually with a similar issue, I was barely able to find any dragons in the swamp/plum/metals range at all, much less with the genes I need. Yeah my wallet is gonna be crying for a bit since he needs Alloy but oh well

My favorite auraboa in my lair was one I hunted through hatcheries for the right colors for, then immediately re-gened myself:
