Maws are you sure the gap doesn't have anything to do with them being new dragons? dragons on their first cooldown are still growing, so their size stats won't settle until it ends.
as for the size mention in lore, i'm pretty sure it's what others said above - just lore, not site mechanics. i imagine it's too much work to code an additional size system for an Ancient breed most people won't end up using too much in comparison to Moderns, none of which have similar pre-existing mechanics, especially when stats don't do anything function-wise.

After, I’m only looking at dragons that are multiple years old right now, I’ll look into the younger ones later. I just think it would be a cool Easter egg type thing, for now I’m just having a bit of fun comparing the different sizes and hunting for something that might not exist.

They're still in the soup.
In fact there's a leviathan sized one in there somewhere.

@Maws some of the medium breeds have pretty big size ranges too! I love Lokenosse's charts for visualization and bogs (low 4 to low 9) and wcs (mid 3 to high 7) have a pretty big min and max range

@Maws
If I remember correctly, doesn't breedchanged ones always start around hatchling size. [emoji=tundra confused size=2]
We might need to wait until first abbies gain their full sizes, which should happen on the 22th March.
EDIT: Of course it depends on whether or not they gained the infamous noc-bog size glitch or not.

Marilill, On dragons who are older than the breeding cool down of the breed they are being changed to, do not have they’re age rest so they can grow, the breed change just prevents them from breeding, nothing else. And that’s only if the original cool down was smaller that theirs, the ridgeback I changed is ready to breed. That’s the way I’ve always remembered it being. But yes, for younger ones there is definitely some uncertainty and we should wait that period before trying to gain mass amounts of data.
Read the second link in the first response, they understand the mechanics well, better than I did, “If your dragon is not RTB, they are only at their fully grown size if their age is equal to or older than their current breed’s cooldown.”
There has been a similar discussion on another site revolving around these elusive large Aberrations, no luck finding one but there is a glitch involving progenitors. When first breed changed they come out at their full size, but once you breed them they revert to hatching size and start the process of growing again seemingly until they reach the end of their breeding cooldown. None of the dragons I looked at were suspiciously small so I don’t think I stumbled upon this event myself.
Still neat that they have/had? They’re own glitch, but it doesn’t seem as big as the bogs.

@Maws 5.59 in length and 7.76 in wingspan. Not colossal but disproportionate.
