hi, I just love making lists and sharing my opinions on stuff that doesn't matter at all, so this forum post is being made solely to satiate that desire :)
btw please feel free to comment what you think! this is in the discussion forum, after all!!
also warning, this is VERY long, so if you have any particular ones you want to know my opinion on, just ctrl+f it lol
oh also it starts off a bit negative, but I promise that's just bc of the first breeds, my favourites and most glowing reviews come later!
banescale hatchling

the face is cute, but overall I feel like the pose is a bit boxy.
the wings also look a bit odd - obviously because of the perspective we don't see most of the underside of the right wing, but it still feels like we should see a little bit of that under-wing visible under the left wing.
banescale male

not a huge fan of this either; full disclosure, banescales are one of my absolute least favourite breeds, so this may be biased, but this pose is just unnatural.
I'm sure they did it like this in order to make the silhouette vaguely fit into a square to match with the other dragons, but because the dragon has only two feet, to me it looks like he's either about to tip forward, or is just incredibly uncomfortable.
the right wing also looks just... oddly positioned? honestly I can't even tell what's going on with it, if it's coming up and we can see the top, or coming down. it's just weird, and doesn't look right.
also this is the tiniest nitpick, but the tail doesn't quite evenly taper off, which bugs me now that I see it :P
banescale female

I still don't love it, but this is my favourite banescale pose for sure!! the wings look a bit awkward like they're in a half-tucked position even in midair, but in this case it looks like that's just part of her anatomy rather than being done in order to shove the drawing into a box
this fixes everything about how the male pose looks like he's falling over - the angle of the body in this one looks much more natural and poised, even in an attacking position
still not my favourite breed, but not at all a bad pose for the anatomy given!
bogsneak hatchling

I think this pose is just okay, and that's it. honestly the more I look at it there's not anything particularly wrong with it - except perhaps the right wing is a bit oddly positioned, although I assumed that's in order to not make them look too symmetrical
honestly I just... don't have much to say about this one
bogsneak male

in general, I really like this pose! the positioning of the limbs is very good, making him fit the box shape in a very natural way.
now that I scrutinize it the right wing also looks a tad odd in this one, but that's legitimately the only criticism I have here.
oh and the neck looks a tad odd with that divot in the middle of it, but much like the banescale female pose, it's clearly just an odd part of the dragon's anatomy rather than a problem with the art
bogsneak female

this is a dragon where I feel like she looks a bit too boxy. which wouldn't actually be much of a problem by itself, but the left wing in this pose also looks... off, like it's positioned too far away. I think given the anatomy it actually kind of makes sense that the wing is there rather than being more visible, but at a glance the wing just looks kind of disconnected and off
yeah honestly, I think it's basically almost fully the left wing that I don't like! it turns me off of the whole pose tbh, although it's certainly not horrible
coatl hatchling

I adore these
I think now that I'm scrutinizing the pose it looks a tiny bit uncomfortable and the right wing is a tiny bit drawn weird, but honestly other those that barely-even-points, I just love everything about this!!
their face is just so mild-mannered, the left wing is in the perfect position, the torso and back legs...
amazing
coatl male

this is another pose that in my opinion is just... pretty much okay, and that's it. as I look at him I legitimately don't have any criticisms to give, I just don't love the adults of these breed and that's it! just personal opinion
coatl female

hmm. I think with this one, the tail also doesn't taper off super well, the right wing looks a bit weird at that angle, and the back legs look a bit exaggerated in their differences, but all of those are very very tiny problems. despite all that, I think I actually prefer this over the male pose! which may sound odd considering this seems a lot like the banescale male vs. female poses, where I took the exact opposite stance, but. idk, I can't really explain why I like this one more!
it's definitely not one of my favourites though, it's just generally pretty good, but I don't care much for it considering the other selection on the website
fae hatchling

I... don't like this one. I think it may be the wings, although it's also partially because of the boxiness of the pose as a whole. the wings just have so little definition compared to the adults that it honestly just looks weird.
that's actually mostly it! the body art is really good, and the face is pretty adorable and really well-drawn. it's literally just the wings that I don't like lol
fae male

I really like this one! also not one of my favourites, but there's basically nothing wrong with it, and honestly it's one of the few male poses I actually like
the one complaint I have is the right wing also looking a tiny bit odd with its perspective, but it's certainly done much better than the other dragons that have a similar pose, and that's literally the only problem that I see!
fae female

idk why, but this is definitely one of my favourite poses!! of course, just like everyone else, I know she looks a bit weird when you stare at her neck, but seriously other than that she's great. the left wing is probably also drawn a bit weirdly here too, but again nowhere near as much as with the other poses, and yeah, I just. really like her :)
gaoler hatchling

this is just adorable! the head does look a little bit awkwardly positioned with the way it's looking almost directly back, but ignoring that I really do have no complains. they're just really cute and that's it!
now that I look closer the legs are a bit ambiguously positioned in a weird way, but considering I've never even noticed that until right now, it's barely even worth mentioning tbh
gaoler male

this is just a solid pose, no complaints! the base of the tail looks a bit odd, but that's part of the breed rather than the art, so again, seriously no complaints
gaoler female

this is another one that's just... okay. the stance is a bit wide, the weird tail is a little bit more obvious, and the torso looks rather unnatural with its musculature, but overall it's definitely not a bad pose! just not a super good one either
guardian hatchling

this is absolutely my favourite guardian pose, and one of my favourite hatchling poses too!! literally I can't find a single thing wrong. I love them :)
guardian male

once again, the left wing positioning looks odd in a way. but other than that, solid pose, and I legitimately don't have any other complaints!
guardian female

this is the pose that makes me understand why most of the other dragon art has a half-folded background wing despite it looking a bit odd. in this pose, they left the back one unfolded, and although it makes her look more natural, it also makes the pose much too boxy imo
the front wing also looks a little bit awkward with the folding over, but that's it. everything else is solid! but the boxiness is enough for me to not love this pose, especially when there's a dark secondary, because it really makes the wings blend together
imperial hatchling

imo this is the boxiest hatchling pose, and I therefore don't like it very much. despite that, absolutely zero complaints about the wings here! the face is adorable and the tail is great, but the body being scrunched up to fit the square shape of the pose just looks weird and not that good
imperial male

another fairly boxy pose with not much going on - however, this time I legitimately don't think it's that bad.
the real problem in my eyes is that the wings looks a bit weird, perhaps too far back; I assume that's part of sexual dimorphism though, considering the female pose's wings are much smaller and nice looking in my opinion, but it's such a clear difference that I doubt it was made unpurposefully.
so yeah! other than the wings, there's absolutely nothing off about the art of this psoe. also the head and neck art is great :)
imperial female

very good pose!!
the sole problem I see is that the tail seems to rotate a bit more fast than looks natural, but that's seriously it, other than that this is a great pose and that's it :)
mirror hatchling

another stellar pose! I am once again noticing the back wing looking a bit weird, but like with the gaoler hatchling pose, considering I didn't even notice that until now I don't think it's a bit deal at all.
but yeah, seriously there is nothing wrong with this pose in my eyes! it's not one of my favourites, but that's solely because of personal preference and not because of the art itself
very cute and very good :)
mirror male

another pose that's pretty much just okay. the art itself is great and again there's nothing wrong with it, the pose is just a bit static and lifeless imo
mirror female

I like this one much better than the male pose! it's very dynamic and I love the leg positions. the wings, too, are in a non-symmetrical position but still look very very good!
on close inspection the neck looks a bit weird, like fae female necks, but this is another example of me not even noticing that until now so it doesn't really change my positive opinion on the pose at all :)
nocturne hatchling

yet another adorable and well-positioned hatchling pose!!
I have literally nothing wrong with this at all other than personal preference :)
nocturne male

I know this is a fairly widely-hated pose, and I can see why. the back feet are unnaturally tiny, the right wing looks like it doesn't match the left one, and the belly is (as I saw someone on a different thread describe it) kind of a potbelly that doesn't look great with the pose
other than that there's nothing else off, but that's enough for me to not really like it :P
nocturne female

pretty good pose! the problems with the feet and the belly are fixed, and the right wing only looks slightly off at all. so, like I said, pretty good!
obelisk hatchling

very nice!! I don't love how some of the genes interact, especially because some secondary and tertiary genes are barely visible because of how small the wings are, but overall this is a super cute pose
obelisk male

this is alright, but definitely not one of my favourites
like with a lot of breeds I'm not a big fan of how much the belly recedes when compared to the chest, no matter how anatomically correct it is, and the wings look a little bit static imo
so yeah not bad but not amazing either!
obelisk female

just like with almost every other breed, I prefer the female pose over the male one!
I still have a few nitpicks though of course; I like the curls on the neck for the most part, but the first layer of curls feels a bit too patterned and unnatural to me
this is also another pose where the wings feel a bit off, although I can't totally explain why
and finally I know some people love the belly scales, but I'm not a huge fan of it honestly? it feels like they're even higher up than the male pose
anyways despite that I still like this a lot more!
pearlcatcher hatchling

much like with most of the other hatchling poses, any problems I have are so small that it doesn't diminish from the pose at all. this one is just great :)
pearlcatcher male

I have a few gripes with this one - first off, the back wing is both stretched in front of the left wing AND behind it. in other words, it looks like it's 1.5x the length of the left wing, which just looks really weird
the shape of the chest and belly is also weird, sticking out in ways that look unnatural and really weird
those are the only two problems I have with the pose, but they affect the silhouette enough that I don't like the pose in general much :P
pearlcatcher female

much, much better! I feel like the neck and the very end of the belly still have a weird curve to them, but other than that I have literally no other complaints. the back wing is both straight and still looks natural, so props to that!
yep, good pose!
ridgeback hatchling

hmm, I... don't love this one.
I think it's partially the wings; one wing is tilted up and one down, and the back wing also reaches both forward and back, which again makes it look like it has a weird size
the rest of it is just personal preference though, I think!
ridgeback male

same wing problem - it stretches wider than the front wing on both the left and right side, which just looks odd and off.
I think that's the only problem, but it affects the silhouette enough that it just looks weird. the rest of the reason why I don't love it is personal preference, other than the wing the art is good!
ridgeback female

despite not having the same back wing problem as the hatchling and her male counterpart, I just... don't like this pose. but considering the art itself is perfectly good, I think that's just personal preference in this case and that's literally it!
skydancer hatchling

yet another winning hatchling pose!! like some other poses, the neck curve is a tad off, but that's my one and only complaint; this pose is adorable and wonderful and I love it :)
skydancer male

yet another pose that's kind of static and boxy. I'm also not a huge fan of the wings; compared to the female ones, they look kind of skeletal at the ends, which I don't love.
honestly though, it's one of my favourite male poses!
skydancer female

a list of words I would use to describe this; spectacular, stunning, gorgeous, amazing, poised, elegant, beautiful...
the sole problem I have is once again the neck shape. but over all this used to be my absolute favourite adult pose, and it has stayed in the top three ever since I got my first one. this pose is just... the best
snapper hatchling

hmm, this is... alright
it's a pretty good pose, barring the tail which looks slightly disconnected from the body, so I think the only reason I don't love this pose is personal preference!
snapper male

good pose! I think there's legitimately nothing off about this pose at all, actually, and it's just again personal preference why it's not one of my favourites :)
snapper female

the good things about this pose; she looks incredibly gentle, and the tail definitely looks more attached and perfect than either the hatchling or male poses
the bad things: her front legs are too far apart, so that it looks uncomfortable to stand that way, and the wings look off. I can't even totally describe what I mean by that, they just look off
spiral hatchling

now, this pose is pretty good, but I don't like it as much as most of the rest of the hatchling poses, honestly
I think it's the curve of the back - it just... really doesn't look like it would transition into the nest the hatchling has made around themselves
the other reason is the eyes; people seem to love how big they are, and even often put innocent eyes on these guys, but to me it literally looks like they are popping out of their head :P
spiral male

a fairly solid pose! I think my biggest complaint is that the first set of wings have a really weird positioning
I also wish he looked a bit softer, like his female counterpart :(
spiral female

another pose I very very much like!! she looks so gentle, and everything about the art is great. literally no complaints!
tundra hatchling

yep, still cute! the art here is great. with genes my opinion changes, but I'm only going off of lineart rather than genes, so another one with no complaints!
tunda male

it's alright? the back legs look kind of small in comparison to the front ones, which is probably it. the wings transitioning from so furry to so skin-like isn't something I'm a fan of either, but obviously that's a breed thing rather than an art thing, so overall this is actually really good, personal breed preference aside!
tundra female

another boxy, static pose :P
the stomach of this one also looks kind of weird
barring the pose and that one small detail though, this isn't bad at all! but unfortunately the pose changes how a dragon looks a lot, so
veilspun hatchling

we're onto veilspuns, my beloved <3
literally nothing to say here, this is just yet another adorable hatchling :))
veilspun male

still basically no complaints! upon scrutinization the chest and neck still look a tiny bit weird, but seriously that doesn't matter compared to how amazing the rest of this looks :)
veilspun female

for this one, I actually have no complaints
the neck looks a little bit odd being so long, but again that's just more sexual dimorphism - the art and pose themselves are absolutely spectacular :)
wildclaw hatchling

aaand another one of the few hatchlings I don't like
but again, this has nothing to do with the pose or the art, just personal preference and that's it!
wildclaw male

a fairly good pose! but I honestly don't have much to say about it! I don't love it, but I think that's mostly more personal preference, and perhaps also the fact that the legs look a bit uncomfortable spread apart so far
wildclaw female

exact same answer as the male pose! except hers looks a bit more static, so I don't like it quite as much
wow, that was long
as expected though! and I learned a few things, like there are more breeds than I thought where I prefer the male pose over the female, and also a few breeds where although I don't like one pose at all, that's definitely not a reason to avoid the whole breed, because the other pose might actually be really nice!!
anyways that was fun, and like I said feel free to comment any of your own thoughts, personal preferences, favourites, etc :)
btw please feel free to comment what you think! this is in the discussion forum, after all!!
also warning, this is VERY long, so if you have any particular ones you want to know my opinion on, just ctrl+f it lol
oh also it starts off a bit negative, but I promise that's just bc of the first breeds, my favourites and most glowing reviews come later!
banescale hatchling

the face is cute, but overall I feel like the pose is a bit boxy.
the wings also look a bit odd - obviously because of the perspective we don't see most of the underside of the right wing, but it still feels like we should see a little bit of that under-wing visible under the left wing.

yep, still cute! the art here is great. with genes my opinion changes, but I'm only going off of lineart rather than genes, so another one with no complaints!
tunda male

it's alright? the back legs look kind of small in comparison to the front ones, which is probably it. the wings transitioning from so furry to so skin-like isn't something I'm a fan of either, but obviously that's a breed thing rather than an art thing, so overall this is actually really good, personal breed preference aside!
tundra female

another boxy, static pose :P
the stomach of this one also looks kind of weird
barring the pose and that one small detail though, this isn't bad at all! but unfortunately the pose changes how a dragon looks a lot, so
veilspun hatchling

we're onto veilspuns, my beloved <3
literally nothing to say here, this is just yet another adorable hatchling :))
veilspun male

still basically no complaints! upon scrutinization the chest and neck still look a tiny bit weird, but seriously that doesn't matter compared to how amazing the rest of this looks :)
veilspun female

for this one, I actually have no complaints
the neck looks a little bit odd being so long, but again that's just more sexual dimorphism - the art and pose themselves are absolutely spectacular :)
wildclaw hatchling

aaand another one of the few hatchlings I don't like
but again, this has nothing to do with the pose or the art, just personal preference and that's it!
wildclaw male

a fairly good pose! but I honestly don't have much to say about it!
