I tend to name familiars like I name dragons. I just name them something random that feels like it would fit, or something relevant to their lore. Whatever feels right.
I'm having trouble currently naming a Tribeam Lurker. It belongs to my coatl metal forger who makes fancy armor and metal bits that go on the corners of books. Rhyoline's Lurker looks intimidating to the rest of the clan, but has been tamed/reprogrammed to assist in laser-engraving the more decorative pieces. I feel like it's enough of a pet or workshop partner to deserve a name, but what do you name a robot with three laser tails and spider legs and a fae neck?
Anyway, it got me wondering if other people do the same thing. Do you put a lot of thought into naming familiars, taking into account their partner dragon's lore, what they look like, or are they all "Mr.Cuddles"? Do you use the naming feature for anything else, like sorting or notes?

i have only named one familiar, because it's my familiar pride and joy attached to my dragon pride and joy. it took me a while to decide on a name and honestly it could change at any time if i find something better. if only renaming dragons was so easy and didn't require a renaming scroll... maybe 90% of my lair wouldn't be unnamed lol

i tend not to name them, but if they're named they have some form of connection to the dragon for lore
or they're resembling something for a fandragon

It takes a lot of beans, but only one toast to make a meal.

I named all of my attached familiars as soon as it became an option. Some of them have joke names, some have fannish names, some have names that coordinate with their dragon and some have random names that crossed my mind when I attached them. I have no method.

I actually don't name my familiars often, it's just something I really haven't gotten around to yet. I only have one named "Dusty," and I honestly don't remember when or why that was done, but it's a thing.
