I'm really lacking inspiration/motivation for lore rn... How did you write your lore? How long did it take to finish? What's it about? What inspired you?

not sure if this belongs here or creative corner

A good chunk of my dragons came from dreams or listening to songs..or just looking at their outfits and being like "okay what can i do with this?" it normally starts with giving them a Title like "the starseer" or "The Corrupted Prince" and then goes from there

Will it ever be finished, probably not.Can i timeline it? Maybe?

A synopsis of my original clan lore:

Local fae wants to settle down with wife to start a family. Wife allows everyone that comes by to "stay for a while." Everyone stays forever. Now local fae leads a clan against his will.

It allows me to be flexible since I can add or drop characters as I go, and there's a variety of different roles a dragon can fill. Lore is essentially just different biographies; I don't write fleshed-out stories or anything.

I did move all of the dragons in this lore to my den, though. I want to write some new lore for a few of my non-OC dragons, but I'm not so sure where to start.

Sorry in advance for the word dump ^^

I have very recently (last week!!) decided to do a huge lore revamp!! I've made use of the new tabs system to make it more personalized and matching my lore with my pairs, and I'm really excited to keep developing my main clan, along with the smaller clans that I have in my hibden, but I want to focus on my main clan lore because that's the main clan.

The main clan lore can be found here, but I'll summarize it below so you don't have to read it unless you want to:

Basically, my breeding clan live on an island that lay undiscovered for a large amount of time, mainly because storms and tsunamis made it impossible to navigate that part of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. With these storms came many shipwrecks, because some dragons thought they could get through them. They couldn't. So, the clan built a lighthouse, and this guided ships to their island, saving some from wrecking, but not all. Those ships that made it there were confused that the island existed, and started adding it to maps. As it turned out, these turbulent seas blocked a vital trade route, that if there was a way to cross through it safely then that would make massive change to the speed of trade.

After some time, the clan had been working on prototypes of thermal powered machines that would lessen the storms and turbulence of the waters and stop tsunamis (basically a fantasy reskin of acoustic-gravity wave machines). They built them around the waters of their island, and this helped massively. Now, the island is a hub of trade because of it's basically in the very center of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and since many ships went right through there to different parts of Sornieth, but stop there to restock on supplies, and stuff like that. Now, generations later, my custom progen is the keeper of the lighthouse, her mate, my random, is a cartographer, and I'm writing them a big 'ol love story because they're great and they deserve it, and their eldest son by lore is the clan leader after they've stepped down to settle and live their lives together to make up for lost time.

That's the lore itself, as for how I wrote it? I sorta just decided to sit down and do it, and it took about a day maybe. I didn't really have any inspiration, I just wanted to haev the unique little clan I've always wanted. As for my hib den, which is full of tiny clans, those are the places where I throw the lore ideas that I can't fit into my main clan. That way, I have the serious clan with all the breeding pairs and stuff, and the fun mini clans that are like when a TV show has an episode that isn't centered around the main cast, but some side character. None of the miniclans are associated with eachother or the main clan because plot reasons and I just like to keep them seperate :)

My clan lore overall is actually relatively simple; my dergs live in a big village named Auratide built atop a floating island in the Starfall Isles. The island moves slowly, but never stays in one place, and occasionally a group of larger and stronger Arcane dragons need to move it away from the fringes of the Isles back to the 'mainland' so to speak, to prevent their home from crashing into the ground.

My progens need to have their lore reworked, but they're basically the leaders, though they rule essentially by democracy. They're pretty much mayors, and dragons who live in the Village have all manner of different jobs and professions. Plenty are citizens without work, others are visitors, there are entire blocks dedicated to other Flights to accommodate both said visitors and ambassadors of different Flights.

Lorewise, my dragons also aren't their site-stated ages. Some, like my progens, are very young, only a handful of decades old, others are centuries old. A lot of my pairs' offspring lists don't exist lore-wise, either. Lodestar and Starwood (my Progens) don't have a whole slew of hatchlings in their lore.

1.) Well first off! I do all my lore via character lore written out in the dragons profiles, as well as tidbits on the tab descriptions and my clan page. So I just write it as I go and get ideas for characters that fit within the established base idea.
2.) Technically? It's still not finished and never really will be because I'll always be adding new characters that build on the lore. I usually take about 2-3 days to finish a new piece of it though. The thing about having lore on a petsim site is really that you'll always be getting new pets, so you'll always be writing new stories and building on ideas and concepts.
3.) Sleepy lil village in the Starwood Strand that houses a big underground facility studying anomalous entities across Sornieth. The lore is based around telling the stories of not only the facility staff, but the creatures they contained, and the village folk who have to live with it.
4.) The Magnus Archives and SCP, admittedly..... only really in the base concept, there's a lot of influences for each individual part. Most of it is based either in some genre of horror or high fantasy, since that's the two things I really thrive with. Which would be my suggestion: it's easier to write something you like if you examine the kind of media specifically you like, and what parts interest you. You can start pulling together scraps and ideas from there, until you get a founding idea and setting, which you can then build on as you build on your dragons individual lore.

- i'm making it up as i go. the clan lore is mostly concrete but i do occasionally tweak it.

- what makes you think any of it's done? lol
on a serious note, it's never gonna be done. there's a million things i can do with it and i don't know where to start :P

- island off the coast of dragonhome that is potentially sentient and very obviously moving, and the everyday struggles of the dragons that live on it. a particular overarching issue is who the actual leader is because there isn't one.

- a lot. my main inspiration was the myths of turtles/sea creatures with islands on their backs (more the creature itself) and kinda stardew valley because a lot of my dragons have to do with farming lol

I have none of my clan lore written down anywhere, but it's been growing in my head all those hours I spend coli grinding. It goes something like this.

Chet, Iris and their co-conspirator Kiangazi were three young Wind dragons who built a flying platform with a sound system to throw a wild party on. They had to get it a long way up because it was going to get super noisy, and somewhere in the upper atmosphere their equipment began to pick up fragments of audio signals from other worlds.

So the party evolved into a kind of flying fandom convention. Dragons flocked to the platform to hear the aural adventures. Some of them costumed and named themselves after ideas found in those stories; many more simply turned up to have a good time and never left. Over time, they've extended and strengthened the platform and refined their sound systems and flight plans to follow and capture the mysterious signals, and young dragons come from all over Sornieth to hear and celebrate the sounds and stories.

Iris and Kiangazi teach them battle and dance moves in raids on Harpy's Roost and the Mire. This brings in enough supplies to feed and clothe the clan, and most of the youngsters go on to the Windsinger when they're experienced enough to be useful.

DANCE PARTY FOREVER.
