but this one was hilariously detailed and i still don't understand. it involved new genes, new apparel, new breeds... everything. gonna rip most of the text from my tumblr post about it since i'm too tired still to write it again, but:
the subforum titles began changing, one by one, to include the word “marigold”. for some reason no one noticed it? i noticed after like 3 titles had been changed, and asked on tumblr if it could be a teaser for the upcoming ancient breed. however, it turned out to be a teaser for the marigold gene, released later that same day.
said marigold gene was a tert which gave your dragons tons of little flowers all over it, kinda like gembond but with flowers instead. it was lovely! really good!
released alongside the marigold tert was some new apparel, which consisted of making sure the flower set and (old) silk set all had the same colors by filling in the gaps - meaning we got silks colored like the larkspur and violet flower sets, for example. the best thing in there was the light blue flowerfalls, colored after the sky blue wing silks. they were amazing.
however! what i did find, related to ancient breeds, was either found by me poking around somewhere in the apparel preview window (in spite of ancients not being able to wear apparel) or in the scrying workshop, i can’t remember which one. i think it might’ve been both?
the first thing i found was an image of… a robot dog-looking thing. it was weird and i couldn’t find anything else on it. (i should add that while i did in fact initially assume that that would be our first ancient breed, i later found other random toy images, so i kind of gave up that thought.)
the second thing i found was discovered while i was looking for new genes instead, was a picture of a female-pose bogsneak with piebald and paint, but it was rainbow piebald and paint so the picture was animated, and it went through the colors. but poorly, so the dragon’s shadows and such changed in color too and it was all kinda muddy. like someone slapped a color-changing filter over a grey piepaint dragon... yeah.
then i found the ancient breed, and it was… gaolers, to no one’s surprise. no name was listed (for any of it, in fact), but i found exactly one image which was of the female pose. female-posed gaolers were, in fact, nearly identical to male-pose tundras, but their fur was longer and messier, and they had some comically long two-pronged tusks, reaching down from their head to the ground, and also being really thin for some reason? they also had those same kinds of tusks on their wings. it was ridiculous and i knew people were going to love it. then i unfortunately woke up, but gaoler wing tusks (trust me, they were incredibly silly) will remain with me forever.
tl;dr: new marigold gene gives your dragons tiny flowers all over it; new apparel update adds in some new colors for old silks and flower sets, including a very beautiful light blue flower set; new breed was gaolers and they were amazing but the tusks were comically long and thin for some reason. also rainbow bogsneaks and robot dogs.
