Research And Development (R&D) Laboratories
Or, possibly more accurately,
Clan of the Mystery Machine
Tyrant, one of the progens, is infamous for her ambition. As what was known as Cathgear Clan migrated closer and closer to the Tempest Spire, her determination grew into a manic drive to best everyone, to find the one answer that would end all dominance wars forever. It wasn't enough to simply beat the others. It wasn't enough to win.
Sidcatha, her mate, watched in silence as she slowly gathered dragons together from every clan, interrogating them as thoroughly as possible on what they knew. She departmentalized the clan, setting each to working on figuring out new and improved ways to break physics through magic and magic through physics.
Any that could not contribute were thrown to work the Stormcatcher's assembly lines, or presented as fresh interns or test subjects.
(You can probably guess how Tyrant got her name. She likes it, to where it's all any call her now. Almost none of 'em remember her 'actual' name.)
With the still growing clan's new, prestigious location, Clan MM now owned a massive laboratory, and a long mystery machine sprawling most of the length of the lair's center that ran day and night no matter anyone's attempts to stop it. What did it do? Nothing, as far as anyone could tell. It's still being worked on, most of the original blueprints have vanished (or have they?) and it's full of levers that no one really is sure what they do anymore. So, instead of dismantling it, dragons just add to it in hopes of stabilizing force lines and fighting energies.
What WILL it do when it's finished? No one really knows that, either; with the introduction of warring magics, all anyone can do is theorize. Maybe nothing. Maybe it'll shield the clan's land forever from attack. Maybe it'll end the world. Maybe it'll be an eternal energy source. Maybe it'll heal anything that gets near it, or remove any need for hunger, or kill anything that gets near it. Maybe it'll short itself out and stop working, or explode.
For now, most dragons ACTUALLY use it to power reading lights, provide heat on cold desert nights, or impress friends with wild tales of what it "really" is supposed to do.
