TOPIC | Invasion on Polus [ DISCUSSION ] TOWNWIN
y’ello ! The name’s Sage. But feel free to call me Terrify if using real names wigs you out. He / They pronouns please. I’m a perpetually tired overworked person who will probably hyperfocus on this thread in my free time. That goes to say, I do work day shifts usually and will be probably more active in the evening. If I’m not distracted by Baldur’s Gate, that is.

I like to scumhunt and am pretty gung-ho about my opinions of people! If I ever seem too eager / too mean, know that I really don’t mean it, I just get excited. If you ever need me to tone it down, please feel free to squirt me with a squirt bottle.

Also so glad that it was only four pages when I got to posting. Wowie.

Also hello mr. neil icebreaker…………….. @Polybius01470147

1 how are you FEELING right now?

FEELING ALRIGHT. BUT SQUINTING HARD AT THESE ICEBREAKERS AGAIN.

I’ll settle my paws for now, since you did become Town last game. But I’m watching you, mister.

Otherwise just got home from work / shopping. Catching up cause I have no idea what tomorrow is gonna bring at work.

2 Have you ever played multiball before? If yes, what strategies do you employ while playing multiball as either alignment, and if no (or; optional if yes) what is going to be your process starting this game to track down the sussy bakas?

I’m gonna assume by multiball, you’re referring to role madness. If so, then yes I have played it before but it’s been a bit. My goal is to basically take it as I take any other game, just go for the throat of whomever I find sus. I will probably speculate on alignments of certain roles too, as one does.

3 what is, in your opinion, your best asset to playing town?

*squints*

I like to think that as playing Town, I’m a pretty good scumhunter and blunt. I tend to have good gut feelings and usually end up being right. Favorite example to tote was almost getting someone eliminated simply because of how many times they’ve pinged me.

I tend to look at the finer details and scrutinize things that others don’t mention or notice. Idk. It works for me. :3c

Though… I do not like just talking about how I play as town, and you already are well aware of how much I dislike icebreaker questions such as these. Though… I will give you the benefit of the doubt at the moment since you at, the very least, clarified town.

4 We will have a d1 elimination. I will strongarm one if I have to. With that in mind, what are you looking out for for a d1 elim candidate?

Someone who will get people talking.

Really that’s about it. I’m looking for a pretty opinionated person for my vote.

Also I am in agreement that we need to get a day one elimination this time! Like the last game we played, I was super shocked we didn’t! I’ll be trying my best to help with that front.

~ * ~

With that being said, I’d be interested in a few questions myself. Mainly towards Neil but :,3c @ everyone too ( sorry… this is the second time I’m like “woah look at neil.”)

How do you usually handle being a mafia member / evil party? How do you try to hold yourself? What are your fatal sins?
(Mostly to Neil) Are you still as fierce to defend as before? (To everyone) What makes someone worthy of outside defense?

Also answer your icebreakers, Neil

~ * ~

To talk about this Cult though. I find it rather strange that Dilemma would just straight up come out with that. Like. Towny, sure… if you take it at face value. Though I’m glad to see most people are not taking it at face value.

And then a few pokes -

@KungFuCutBug & @TheMimic1013

(To KungFuCutbug) Take this as someone who’s home site was also ToS, Flight Rising mafia is a lot more aggressive than ToS. It’s generally viewed as pretty scummy to not go for eliminations as much as possible. Mostly people are subscribed to the idea that it is our best interest as town to use our only sure fire means of elimination. Especially when Vig and Vet aren’t for sure roles that can be in play.

(To Both) Why are you against D1 eliminations so much? Why do you find it scummy? Is it just because you don’t like aggressive people / aggressive playstyles or is there more? I know Mimic mentioned bad experiences, but in place that is so forwards about day one it’s always interesting to me to see people stand out from the mental majority.

Interesting as in I’m not sure I get it but also… I get it. In a sense. Idk.

(To Mimic) Happy birthday!

@Rantoons

I'm curious of your reasons to vote Neil, honestly. Don't take this as me defending it, but I am curious what pinged you so hard as to mention that you're gonna try to vote for it tonight.

@terrify I'm mostly against d1 eliminations because of my past experiences with both ToS and other forums' mafia cultures, yeah, but I'll admit I'm not the most well-versed in FR mafia games (the only one I've been in so far I had to drop out of because of irl time constraints >_>;;)

in situations where you can't actively guarantee a nighttime elim with rolls like vigi or vet though I can see an argument being made in favor of a d1 elim, even if I'm still not the keenest on it

@KungFuCutBug

All fair! It took me a bit too to relearn FR's culture. I guess if you're open-minded to it, then there's not much I could argue against.

I guess my question shakes up to be;

What would it take for you to be comfortable to do a D1 elim on someone? What do you feel about the information / lack thereof that we could gain based on the results?
Speaking of day 1 elims, I'm fairly ambivalent on it. If everyone's on board, I'm on board. Info is pretty valuable, and day 1 elim provides good talking points. However, this may change with some good argumentation and when I'm no longer tired.
If you don't know what a cult is playable of, why are you so scared about cults? Why are they a priority here if you don't know what they can do?
On the topic of why to fear cults if you don't know their exact mechanics: A cult, by basic definition, can convert other players to their faction. Regardless of their specific abilities, that's really bad for us because alignment messes with prior reads, not to mention decreasing town numbers. They're a serious threat.

@terrify

that's the thing: on d1 there's typically not enough information for me to be comfortable with eliminating anyone, especially if there's no "day 0" or introductory period where the first active (probably not the best word for it but you know what I mean) phase is a night phase instead of a day phase

really the only situation where I'd be totally fine with a d1 elimination is if someone was acting really obviously erratic/suspicious for no discernible reason, otherwise I'm just not confident enough in my intuition to be okay with strong arming a d1 elimination on the very little information players are usually given

Hm.

And how do you suppose we generate that discussion if not by eliminations? If you don't mind me asking!

@terrify

by talking?? is the point of a discussion not, well, to discuss? except on d1s like this there's not much to discuss, and if there's not much to discuss, I'm not really mentally okay with just. tossing someone out because of contrived factors and also because "oh it's early in the game, we can afford to lose a couple of townies"

especially in a multiball setting where we don't know the exact ratio of town to evil faction 1 to evil faction 2 (and that's not even considering the potential third parties), and thus it's incredibly likely there's less actual townies

meowdy howdy o/ aaanyways the reason I ask about cult mechanics is because i apparently hallucinated that cult members attempting to convert mafia kills them. i. must have been thinking about masons. so much for that. though in mafia42 Cult can't convert mafia at all [instead alerting mafia of who cult leader is] so /shrug. with that in mind, i was worried that dilemma was like. mafia bait trying to eat a cult conv in order to kill them. anyways!! :3 im going to hold off in answering my own ice breakers aorn, but dw :3 @KungFuCutBug

4 We will have a d1 elimination.
