Mafia Championship 2023


What is the Mafia Championship?

The Mafia Championship is an annual event where representatives from different forum mafia communities come together and play …mafia (dun dun dun). This year is the 10th year the Championship is running, with 135 communities participating.

Each representative plays in a 15-player qualifier game sometime between late April and mid-June depending on their availability. After the qualifier game, the top two players (selected by popular vote at the end of the game) will advance to the semifinals, which will be played around July / August. Similarly, the top five players by popular vote from each semifinal game will advance to play the Finale game in August / September.

If you’d like to get an idea of how a Championship game usually goes, feel free to read through the game our last IMH representative (MagykalWagykal) played back in 2020!

The Flight Rising IMH community is invited to nominate one player and one substitute to participate in the Mafia Championship this year.

Things to note

The Championship is very different from your average game on here. If you are considering to participate, please make sure you are okay with the following points:

• Vanilla setup - there will be little power roles. The game will be heavy on discussion/elimination instead of power usage.
• High activity required - expect to have to read through 60-70 FR pages per day.
  (This means more posts in a single day than the entirety of our recent games!)
  You will also be expected to post 10-125 posts per game day, and keep a consistently high activity.
• Players of all sorts - you will be interacting with players of all ages/countries/timezones, many of which are highly experienced players with years of mafia experience.
• A serious game - players will probably take the game very seriously. Much, much more seriously than our usual games.

Game Setup

This year’s qualifying games will run in the Adapt6 Setup. One out of the six setups below will be picked randomly for a game:

Semifinals and finals will be a low-powered 15 player game (still to be confirmed).

Selection Process

We will be selecting our representative and substitute through a public vote. The candidate with the most votes will be nominated as IMH’s representative, with the runner-up as our substitute.

The timeline of the selection process is as below:

Public Nominations (Now until 10 April) - Each person can nominate up to three people in this thread (self nominations are welcome!). If a nominee accepts the nomination, they become a candidate. Nominees must accept their nomination by 23:59 FRT, 10 April, 2023 to be a qualified candidate.

Candidate Introductions (11-13 April) - Each candidate posts a short post introducing themselves, their mafia experience / playstyle, why they want to play etc.

Public Voting (14-20 April) - All members of the community are invited to cast their votes for candidates using a google form.

Result Announcement (21 April) - IMH’s representative and substitute player will be announced on the thread. Further instructions will be given afterwards to the selected candidates afterwards to connect them with Mafia Championship coordinators.

Re: Mafia pinglist We’re aware that the pinglist may be awfully outdated. If you wish to be removed/added, please just leave a note in this thread. We are active again and can actually get you off/in.

With the opening of the new hub we also have another exciting announcement: Mafia Championship 2023! This is an annual, external event, and we are to collectively nominate and vote for a representative to participate. Please take a look at the post above for the details!

and mafia champsionship 2023 nominations to kick us off!! that's exciting - depending on how quick i write and send this i might be the first person to nominate anyone hehe

without further ado, some nominations - i'm not sure if i should be pinging these people or not but i'll start off without pings just in case, i can always go in and add them.

someone i know is new... which probably isn't great for this LMAO but she has a TON of potential so i think she deserves, at the very least, acknowledgement for that. she's a pretty great player - see her performance in Tangle's most recent game here. again, even if she's not experienced or available enough to be in the Championship, compared to other nominees, i feel like she deserves to be nominated, if that makes any sense. you're doing great, nat - keep up the good work.
