........Adiris kept her pace slow and her head level as she carefully trod down the cobblestone pathway leading to the solitary temple nestled against a hillside within the Viridian Labyrinth. The thurible she held tightly by the chain between her teeth swung with each step she took, filling the air around her with thin clouds of black smoke. Adiris hadn't traveled far from her home of the Sunbeam Ruins, but she still felt a sense of displacement within herself, the temple that had been partially reclaimed by nature before her, and the chaotic wilderness that surrounded her.
........Still, she kept her poise and continued her slow and purposefully stride to the temple. Her home of the Sunbeam Kingdom had forged ties with the nearby Shelter, and to solidify their union, she had been sent to supervise a short ritual as performed by the Shelter's own Clergy. She wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but she had planned on keeping things quick and professional.
........At least, that was what she was thinking before something shook her out of her musings.
........"Hey!"
........A shrill shout cut through the otherwise silent courtyard. Adiris paused midstep, her thurible jerking suddenly and spilling a handful of ashes with her sudden stop. She took the thurible's chain out from her mouth and into her claws before tilting her head in an attempt to locate the source of the noise. It didn't take long to spot two spirals darting out from inside the temple, one trying to evade the other through elaborate and erratic flight patterns. Their pursuer called out to them with playful annoyance.
........"Give it back!" laughed the spiral who was flying just short of reaching the other. Her mantle whipped against her neck in the wind. "She'll be here any minute!"
........The spiral being chased, who held something too small for Adiris to make out, appeared unconcerned with this notion. "She isn't here now, is she?" they yelled back, and let out a cackle that echoed throughout the forest. With a sharp flap of their wings, they shot upward towards the canopy of trees, their cascades of golden jewelry streaming behind them. They turned and caught sight of Adiris, hanging in the air for a moment as a sly grin crossed their face. They turned back towards the spiral chasing them just long enough to shout, "It appears I was mistaken!" before once again flying off, this time straight towards Adiris.
........Adiris flinched upon noticing the spiral's sudden change in direction and strengthened her grip on her thurible's chain. They came at her like an arrow, their nose pointed directly at hers, before suddenly rocketing up and over her head moments before impact. The spiral behind them was not as quick to change course. Upon noticing how close she was to Adiris, she let out a frightened scream.
........"Look ou-!"
........The tiny spiral smacked harmlessly between Adiris' eyes and fell backward, coming to a stop as she hung limply off her the end of the ridgeback's nose. Before Adiris could offer help, the spiral sprung off her nose and hovered in front of her face. Her entire body stiffened upon realizing who she was flying before, a far cry from the characteristically energetic spiral Adiris witnessed mere moments before. The spiral bowed her head in apology, still breathing hard from the chase.
........"High Priestess Adiris! I am incredibly sorry for... that. It could've been avoided if someone didn't steal my herbs!" She whipped her head around to face said someone.
........Her target floated down and held out the satchel they had stolen. "I cannot believe you would embarrass me in front of the Sunbeam Kingdom's best priestess. I simply can't contain the guilt that weighs down on me," they replied in mock shame, dropping the herbs into the other spiral's waiting claws. They shot a wink at Adiris before darting back into the temple as quickly as they came.
........The spiral left with Adiris let out a defeated sigh. "I apologize on behalf of PaperMoon. It's partially my fault they're like this, I keep encouraging this behavior and... partaking in it... and..." A slightly uncomfortable silence crept back into the courtyard as the spiral left her sentence unfinished. She had clearly become distracted by Adiris, becoming lost as she drank in her sparkling beauty. Adiris twitched upon noticing this, and the spiral was snapped out of her trance. She shook her head wildly and cleared her throat. "I...! I apologize! Adiris! Again! I didn't even introduce myself. Here, I am known simply as Oracle. And I... already know you as High Priestess Adiris."
........Oracle thrust out a hand, before noticing the obvious size difference and quickly hiding it behind her back with an uncomfortable clearing of her throat. Adiris blinked slowly behind her cover, trying to make sense of this dragon. She was certainly not above indulging in recklessness, but she clearly took her job seriously, more so than her companion at the very least. Not to mention that Adiris couldn't help but think Oracle looked charming in a way as she became more and more flustered.
........Oracle tried her best to ease the two dragons out of the stillness. "I've... heard great things about you," she stuttered with a laugh, trying her best to maintain eye contact with Adiris before her nerve got to her. There was a burst of energy behind her voice, as if there something else she desperately wanted to say, but she wasn't able to express it. "Your rituals, I've been told, have the most dedication of any worshiper in the Kingdom. You really devote yourself to your work, and... you seem to bring the best results!" Oracle grinned broadly, searching the ridgeback's face for a sign of acknowledgment.
........Instead, Adiris simply nodded, her expression purposefully composed and unreadable. "I have also heard tales of greatness in your respect. You also devote yourself to your clergy, but with a passion that is matched by no other. You bring motivation to your fellow priests, and are said to light up the temple." She gestured with her claws, still holding tightly to the thurible. "You truly are a driving force within your Shelter."
........A ripple of light glinted off of Oracle's runes as she twisted herself in bashfulness. "I didn't realize I was talked about...!" she responded, slightly amazed. "I-"
........"Ahem." A gentle, low voice floated out of the temple. Its source was a dark guardian, who had suddenly appeared standing in the entryway. "If you two have finished your little date, it's time to begin the ritual." She let out a deep, hearty chuckle and walked back into the temple, a pale skydancer gliding beside her.
........"We'll be righ- It wasn't a date, Ambrosia!" Oracle hollered back, her energy seizing her once again, and rushed off into the temple, leaving Adiris alone. She shook her head and smiled softly, placed her thurible's chain back between her teeth, and walked through the temple's entrance.
Hoped you like it! Sorry it took so long.
For the next person, Platina and Onyx, Mason and Vincent, and Navi and Ambrosia are all couples that I would like you to avoid flirting with. If you need extra information on a dragon, feel free to message me and I'll fill in details!
