This imposing structure was, for many centuries, the only thing that protected Sornieth from the Shade, a dark, destructive force that sought to devour every last morsel of magical energy it could find. Without the World Pillar to fend off this threat, the Shade descended upon Sornieth once more, infecting the creatures who called the realm their home. Dragonkind and the beastclans alike fell victim to the Shade, becoming what is now known as "Shadetouched". The Shade corrupted their very souls, perverting them into beings who craved violence and chaos. In the beginning stages, these Shadetouched creatures began to lose much of their once bright and vibrant pigmentation, turning them dull and grotesque while their sanity gradually slipped away. Strong friendships began to fade and become obsolete to the Shadetouched, a distinct apathy gripping their hearts, urging them to find anything, anything at all that could make them [i]feel[/i] something. Unfortunately, the only thing that seemed to achieve this was the destruction of everything and everyone around them. They wanted for nothing but bloodshed and despair, sometimes even imparting a fragment of their Shade into the creatures who crossed their paths and spreading the eldritch infection to even further reaches of Sornieth. The Arcanist was understandably distraught with the turn of events his curious naivety had led to. He looked to the stars for guidance, seeking an answer to the problem he had created, but, of course, the heavens were steadfast in their silence, offering nothing but an unattainable infinity. But then, the Arcanist thought, was it really so unattainable? The light of a thousand or more stars came from somewhere, however far away, and if he had the power to beckon the Shade, could he not also beckon the stars? With this hypothesis in mind, the Arcanist set to work, studying and observing and scribbling away for many years as he conducted his research, even if some thought it was wholly in vain. While dragonkind flourished in Sornieth, compounding their magical energy generation after generation, the Arcanist came closer and closer to his answer. What others claimed to be wasted time, the Arcanist saw the truth: the stars were well within reach. All he had to do was invite them in. With his most powerful and loyal mages at his side, circled around the Observatory that stood as the capital of their flight, the Arcanist began his ritual. They summoned their arcane energies, funneling it all through the massive telescope that gazed upon the night sky with all the wanderlust of the Arcanist himself, and, for lack of a better term, they prayed. The ancient words they uttered that night have long since been forgotten by all but the Arcanist himself, but the power they held is undeniable even to this day. From the darkness came a humming, almost like a song, and to all the rest of the world it seemed the sun was rising in the dead of night, but they could see how the stars burned brighter, pulsating with the magic the Arcanist and his mages conducted through themselves and into the heavens above. In moments, comets rained into their atmosphere, showering the Arcanist's domain with their blessing. Their call had been answered. What would then be dubbed the Starfall Isles became the birthplace of a new force to be reckoned with: the Startouched. While a handful of the fallen stars had collided directly with their chosen vessels, most lay scattered across the land for curious dragons to find and absorb. The first Startouched were dazed and confused, but thrumming with power and celestial energy, such that even the shadows they cast seemed to shrink away from them. As if by instinct, they converged on the Observatory, gazing up toward the arcane deity who had summoned them, awaiting his divine guidance. [i]These are the warriors destined to protect Sornieth,[/i] thought the Arcanist, looking upon his Startouched fellows with an almost giddy sense of accomplishment. What had been done could be undone. With the help of the Startouched, he could right his wrongs and return the realm to the peaceful harmony it once knew. He beseeched these blessed dragons to defend them against the Shade and save their corrupted kin. As their vessels were his children, they, too, would know his love and appreciation, as well as his power—as much of it as they needed. The arcane magics were at their disposal to use as they saw fit. ----- In present day, the Startouched dragons still battle fiercely against the Shade and its infected minions, as if they were fated enemies. From the void the Shade spawned, and from the light the Stars emerged. Their celestial magic allows them to banish the corruption that plagues their Shadetouched brethren, though not every dragon can be saved, and not every Startouched is immune to the Shade's dark influence. Shadetouched dragons continue to encroach upon the land, defiling every pure thing they touch and sowing more and more violence and hatred into Dragonkind and the beastclans. Meanwhile, Startouched dragons follow the paths of destruction and anguish they leave behind, hunting them down one by one. It is their goal to save as many creatures from the Shade's grasp as they can, but this is only secondary to their sole purpose for existing in the first place, that being to destroy the Shade completely. Startouched dragons have a natural affinity for the arcane magics and draw upon their celestial origins to empower themselves even further, making them formidable opponents. Conversely, Shadetouched dragons source their power from the darkness and the void, predisposing them toward shadow magic. In many ways, they are complete opposites, though some might venture to point out their similarities, as well... For instance, both Shadetouched and Startouched dragons are in a constant internal battle with the forces they embody. A Shadetouched dragon may succumb entirely to the Shade it hosts if it becomes strong enough, devoiding it of its soul completely. When this happens, the dargon cannot be saved. If the Shade is expelled from its body, the dragon will perish alongside it. Similarly, the physical and spiritual strain of hosting a celestial body as powerful as a star is indescribable for a mortal creature such as a dragon. Their bodies are not meant to contain that kind of raw energy, and so, over time, a Startouched dragon may be burned up from the inside out, leaving nothing but the husk of their body for the Star to inhabit, with no hope of the dragon's soul ever returning even if the Star leaves its body. They have the most balanced magic amoung Startouched dragons, capable of combing arcane and celestial energies without putting too much stress on the dragon's body at once (while extraneous pressure is inevitable, the process is simply slowed down). As such, they are some of the most powerful Startouched dragons, even more so on the night of an aurora. Essentially, the darker, the better. They can almost blend in with the shadows under the best of circumstances, making them stealthy assassins capable of taking out Shadetouched without so much as uttering a single spell. These Stars fell from the farther reaches of the universe, ones whose lights were near fizzled out by the time they were summoned. [color=#ff0000][b]*[/b][/color]The colour pattern must be XXX or XXY, wherein the tertiary colour complements primary/secondary colours.[/size] ----- Eternates are Startouched who were just fledgling dragons when they became host to the Star who chose them as their vessel, or when they inherited its energy from their Startouched parents. Due to the celestial properties of Stars, a Startouched dragon's aging process all but stops once they become a vessel. When a whelp becomes a Startouched, they are effectively incapable of growing older. This phenomenon is especially distressing on account of the fact that fledgling dragons physically cannot contain the power of their Star. Celestial magic is constantly seeping out of them, affecting their surroundings and the creatures around them without the ability to control it. If an Eternate becomes too excited or scared, it's almost guaranteed that a surge of celestial energy will explode out of them, threatening to severely injure anything in its immediate surroundings. Auroras are a unique form of Startouched dragon who embody the celestial energy of Stars that fell from closest to Sornieth's galaxy. They have the most balanced magic amoung Startouched dragons, capable of combing arcane and celestial energies without putting too much stress on the dragon's body at once (while extraneous pressure is inevitable, the process is simply slowed down). As such, they are some of the most powerful Startouched dragons, even more so on the night of an aurora. They tend to channel their magic through song and dance, captivating their foes with hypnotising movements and sounds that, in reality, serve as a ritual of sorts that allows them to attack with concentrated energy all at once.

While most Startouched thrive on bright nights with many stars shining in the sky, or even when the sun is out, Eclipses are peculiar in that they are most powerful under new moons and solar or lunar eclipses. Essentially, the darker, the better. They can almost blend in with the shadows under the best of circumstances, making them stealthy assassins capable of taking out Shadetouched without so much as uttering a single spell. These Stars fell from the farther reaches of the universe, ones whose lights were near fizzled out by the time they were summoned. They are dedicating the very last of their celestial energy to the Arcanist's cause, which perhaps makes them even more ferocious as they strive desperately to fulfill their final purpose.

Eternates are Startouched who were just fledgling dragons when they became host to the Star who chose them as their vessel, or when they inherited its energy from their Startouched parents. Due to the celestial properties of Stars, a Startouched dragon's aging process all but stops once they become a vessel. When a whelp becomes a Startouched, they are effectively incapable of growing older. This phenomenon is especially distressing on account of the fact that fledgling dragons physically cannot contain the power of their Star. Celestial magic is constantly seeping out of them, affecting their surroundings and the creatures around them without the ability to control it. If an Eternate becomes too excited or scared, it's almost guaranteed that a surge of celestial energy will explode out of them, threatening to severely injure anything in its immediate surroundings. Unfortunately, Eternates normally do not last long before they succumb to the Star within them, their souls much too small and feeble to sustain themselves.
