@UndeadFae I wasn’t as fastidious or as well funded in treasure and gems when I started collecting fandragons so my really old ones are not as accurate as they could be. I was more flexible because I had to be. My fandragons from the past 2 years or so have been as accurate as possible, though, especially the ones for whom there isn’t a lot of suitable apparel. Take this boy for example: Bitty here, like the other, uh, 11 in this particular sub collection, has a primary color that reflects the original character’s hair and flight and eyes that match the character’s eyes (which took a rental nest and vials of sight). His tertiary is a reference to the character as well, in that it’s peach and people like the character that are from the state of Georgia are often referred to as “peaches.” His familiar is also a reference to the character as well as matching his colors. What truly makes Bitty my triumph in accuracy is his parents, though. I had to breed for the color combination I wanted because it didn’t exist, which meant that I had to buy parents for him. I got them both unnamed, so Bitty’s parents have the same names as the character’s parents in canon.

@UndeadFae I only have one fan dragon, but he's pretty close to who he's based off of!! I'm just working on getting him crystal and finishing his outfit ;w; and then this is his planned outfit + him with crystal [outfit=734105] outfit wise, it's hard, considering Falkor... he's already a dragon, he doesn't wear clothes. so it took some help and creativity to make this. fan dragons are really hard, hence why I only have one. I have a bunch of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 fan dragons planned, along with dragons based off of ocs. and it's really hard to find exactly what you want. I try to find exactly what I want, and if it doesn't exist, I try to find some dragons that I could breed to get it. it takes a lot of patience and sometimes you need to edit your original plan. I was planning for Falkor to have earth eyes, but I ended up going with light because this was as close as I could get and I wasn't going to pass this up! good luck on getting your fan derg!!

@UndeadFae I try my best to be as accurate as possible when it comes to eye colours (unless I can cover the eyes. HOWEVER, for people I tend to go for Prim as a skin colour and Sec as a Hair colour (with Tert an additional colour repping them) so their apparel speaks for them. If I can't do this formula I just get colours that rep them and again go ham on apparel! (: Colors: Primary is usually skin color, unless the character is dominated by prominent armor or another color. The secondary is always hair color. The Tert is best used to help with hair or clothing colors. Eyes must always match the character's canon eye color! Clothes: Layering clothes and accenting makes things a lot easier. Use them! Breed: Must match the character's personality. Velvet grows through her emotions, and SD's have lore about sensing emotions and empathy. Other: Don't be afraid to start a breeding project! Perfect dragons can take months or even years.

I think about the design that can present the character's features or concepts first. Then I work on it and make improvements. Choosing the dragon is the last step. For example: This is Shub-Niggurath. Her concepts are "black goat" and "dark horror". So, goat eyes are necessary. The color should be dark, therefore I choose Obsidian Lionfish and Noxtide gene. Black and red are perfect for creepies. And the multiple eyes skin can make her even creepier. The apparels are very simple, but I think that's enough. Be careful, she can make you fall into madness ;) Yogash is a ghoul. So what features it has? Rotten flesh and blood. So green primary color is good. Strawberry secondary looks a bit green in reds, nice. Tertiary is red Crackles gene, simulating the blood. The skin adds some bones and eyes on it. Now we have a creepy ghoul! My other Cthulhu Mythos fandragons are also made in the same way. I think this helps me get the maximum accuracy.

I'm not huge on fandragons, but when I make one I try to be as accurate as possible. So much so that when the dark sclera eye type came out I had to breed my Gambit fandragon all over again so that he would have his canon eye color. (His mother's father is the original one that I bred prior to that essential eye type appearing and making him not perfect enough XP) For him I found the closest possible apparel to match the character, and made the rest up with colors/genes. I went for closest colors (watermelon), or colors that had significance (steel scales to represent the metal boots the character wears). Rogue then followed the same pattern. Her outfit was a little more difficult to put together, so I stuck to getting the basic idea of her costume with special attention to covering her hands completely because of Rogue's lifeforce-stealing power. ----- Hawkeye was my first fandragon. Like the x-men above his colors were chosen to be as close as possible to his costume in the movies and comics, with the underbelly gene representing the way his costume had that colored bit down the center in at least the earlier MCU movies. I think I scried him for fun once, but then the archer apparel came out and had a purple/black set so I had to do it. ----- Then I have two dragons based off of characters of my own on a Harry Potter roleplay forum. For them I chose their primary color based on something representative of them (the werewolf girl is white in wolf-form so her primary is white, the reindeer animagus is, well, a reindeer, so his primary is a brown color). Their secondary colors represent which house they belong to, and in the werewolf's case she has moon stained as a tertiary to represent how she's affected by the moon. Both those kiddos have scarves correlating to their houses. The werewolf has scars and a white wolf cape, and the reindeer animagus has a reindeer-reins accent because yes. ----- So all that is to say that I very much support being as picky as possible with your fandragons! If a weird color combo is what you want to really feel like your dragon is perfect, don't stop until you've got it. Use genes to represent aspects of them. Use apparel to represent aspects. There are so many ways to go about fandragons. Do what pleases you. In my experience it's always worth it when you finally get that perfect, lovingly designed fandragon :3

i'm usually very picky with colors lol. but i recently found a fandragon that i'm really proud of. he just needs some genes and a breed change, and then he'll look like this:
because i was inverted

the apparel is very accurate imo! i would have preferred nature eyes but wind is green as well so that's fine.
