Vindraig is an ancient kingdom located in the eastern ribs of Cloudscrape Crags, in the mountanous terrain of Southern Icefield. The kingdom has been isolated and inaccessible for centuries, but on account of the shrinking continent and globalized trade, Vindraig has begun to attract more and more visitors and business partners. This is a welcomed change for the denizens (locally called Draigians), even if they can act a little prudish towards outsiders.

0CqUL46.pngHistory
Being one of the oldest settlements in the Southern Icefields, it’s said that roots of Vindraig’s history date back all the way to the Second Age. A regrettable majority of the archived knowledge on the kingdom’s genesis has been either lost or destroyed in the hands of time, however, ancient relics from the olden ages are continually discovered as the warming weather eats at the snow and ice that withholds them. The presence of departed civilizations can be felt from these hidden artifacts, while the kingdom itself operates in the very skeletal remains of a bygone era.

Vindraig’s chronicle is full of violent relations and unrest caused by the unpredictable climate, as well as the scarce resources contested over with neighboring settlements. Vindraig has been very war-torn for the most of its early past, and across centuries the economy grew unusually slow due to the poverty and famine caused by as a result. Even as the era of prosperity licks at the wounds of the battered clan, this economic trauma can still be felt in present day.

As well as having a long history of external struggles, the kingdom has suffered from internal struggles in all of its operation. Right before the modern age, wealth and resources were deliberately distributed unevenly in a dysfunctional market system where the wealthy prospered, and the poor suffered. The kingdom was ruled by a queen whose notoriety rested on the foundations of inherited power, serving only the interest of a few on the expense of thousands. It wasn’t until the noble stand taken by the Four Swords, four esteemed paladins whose loyalty to the Kingdom was greater than their love for their leader. Together they faced certain death to overtake the royal castle and slay this tyrannical ruler and her benefactors, ushering an era of stability for the many decades that followed.

Midst the royal walls, a shadow cries bitterly. Evermore may the fallen queen live in those few who loved her the most; as a mother, and as a god. The throne of Vindraig holds an ugly curse, or so is said. "He whom the power takes, is to be taken in turn."

Culture0YwkhKz.png
Upon the change in leadership, Vindraig’s new higher echelon of cultural developers, including The Four Swords, began a diplomatic campaign to make trading deals and collaboration efforts with neighboring clans and nations to enrich their own kingdom; an overdue operation that was commonly renounced by the majority of the denizens familiar with years of seclusion. But with the introduction of new tools, materials and resources, Draigians were quick to learn to benefit from international trade on their own; flourishing their own market as a result.

As trade picks up between the Kingdom and other nations, so does immigration. Newcomers are a treasure beyond others, but unfortunately, few settle for good. The terrain is difficult to navigate and the weather is terrible, and continuously discourages outsiders from establishing. Outside of the kingdom, Draigian culture isn’t considered the most refined, and especially its traditional cuisine is widely disliked.

Draigians are typically secluded by nature, and the older generation especially tends to be quite aversive towards outsiders, while the younger generations widely enjoy visitors and sharing their culture and space with them. Draigians are described to be shaped by their own environment: unrelenting, cold, and at times a little overcoming.

Their centuries-long seclusion has formed a strong sense of community and togetherness amongst the kingdom, and the denizens form very deep, emotional bonds with their kin. Despite the harsh words said about them, a true Draigian never lets a visitor feel lost in Vindraig.

Trivia
• Of all modern changes to the otherwise traditional clan, the new imported cuisine and recipes are by far the most welcomed ones. Draigians are stereotypically bad at preparing food - and those locals who say they always enjoyed pickled lemming or fermented minnow? They are lying.

• Gift-giving is a core virtue in the minds of Draigians, and the value and functionality of the gift usually determines the giver's feelings about the receiver - for example, a courting gesture would be to give a hand-groomed and decorated pelt of a prey to a potential mate, while an unreturned gesture is seen as a sign of mockery.

• Since the kingdom resides in the near vicinity of the Dripcave Dregs, the entry point to the domain of Gaolers, this ancient breed has seemingly taken a special liking to the kingdom, and is the most common ancient breed to be seen here. A Gaoler was also the first ancient dragon to be admitted to the Academy of the High Order.
