Foreword

The rest of this thread will be in-character as Archivist, the dragon who actually keeps the Stardust Archives, but I wanted to make a few notes before I began!

This thread is made to store my general clan lore. It will give overviews of each clan (traditions, beliefs, etc) and then a list of members. More information can frequently be found in the members' bios, and those are typically the most up-to-date! I definitely forget to update the thread sometimes :'D Since I'm constantly adding to this thread, I ask that nobody post in it so it's easy to organize.

I'm 100% open to hatchling letters, lore interactions, relationships between our dragons, exchanging of headcanons, anything! Interacting with people is part of the fun of doing things on Dragon Site in the first place! If you ever wanna talk about headcanons, lore, or anything, my inbox is always open! I would love to make lore friends, that sounds like the most fun ever.

Finally: as a writer, my favorite thing is conflict, but 98% of the time that conflict won't be violent in my lore. Ultimately, if something requires a warning it probably won't be here in this thread, but if you notice something in my lore that requires a warning and isn't marked, please let me know! If my writing isn't safe for everyone, it's my obligation to make sure people know what to look out for.

Thanks for reading my lore!

Library

The Archives contain the stories and songs that the Troupe of the North Wind has written and performed. It is both a library and a place to store set designs and props, and visitors are welcome under the Archivist's watchful eye. Everything is stored neatly on the shelves, including scripts, costumes, and everything necessary to bring the story back to life once again.

Currently, our collected stories are:
  1. The Arcanum's Roost, a group of scholars in pursuit of a very dangerous sort of magic: the ability to create hybrid elements. Already, their head researcher has made himself into a hybrid-elemental through less-than-safe methods. They are on a perilous path, and show no signs of slowing down.
  2. The Akasha Kingdom, a nation led by a dragon known as Polaris. As time has passed, Polaris has gathered zealously loyal followers, and their manipulative nature has only become more apparent. The kingdom under their rule is growing, but their rule may bring it to ruin.
  3. Flamewrath's Revolutionaries, a band of rebels attempting to make safe from injustice the home they grew up in. Flamewrath is a reluctant leader, but a powerful one.
  4. The Ichor. With lore heavily referencing the Ichor Subspecies, this is a group of Plague dragons who are remarkable in how dangerous they are to be around. I advise caution exploring these stories, as they begin significantly darker than any of the others.

If you already know us, you may feel free to skip over that section of the library. My present favorite is the story of the Ichor: brutal Plague dragons struggling against each other in the Scarred Wasteland. A heavy story, to be sure, but one I have enjoyed recording. If you are not yet familiar with the Troupe and its origins, you can find information on us as well. If you already know us, you may feel free to skip over that section of the library. Part of my responsibility as Archivist is taking down the stories that happen to real dragons; the best stories are rooted in truth, after all.

My present favorite is the story of the Ichor: brutal Plague dragons struggling against each other in the Scarred Wasteland. A heavy story, to be sure, but one I have enjoyed recording.

Please, enjoy the library.

Sometimes, traveling shopkeepers set up in the area as well, bringing with them unusual goods. A second building sits off to the side of the Cinema, just as decorated. This is the Windsong Library: formerly, the Roost of Star's planetarium, though the Troupe converted it when they left. The doors to the Cinema are always open, but the Library is generally only open to those that the librarian, Ainan, approves; she is particular about who she allows near her books. All members of the Troupe are happily admitted, and the occasional guest as well. The Library doesn't hold any forbidden knowledge or dangerous books; instead, it holds records of songs and plays from authors throughout history. The Troupe draws on the past in creating their performances. Inside the Cinema, only two areas are open to the public: the grand entrance, and the theater. In the entrance hang hundreds of wind chimes, making a music entirely unique to both the Cinema and the weather of that day. The theater can seat a large number of dragons comfortably, even considering the massive size of some breeds. The rest of the Cinema is living quarters for the members of the Troupe. Each member gets a room of their own to decorate to their heart's content, which makes each room a unique reflection of its occupant. The Troupe is fairly small, so there are a few spaces left over for guests who stay for extended periods of time. In order to travel freely in the lands of Sornieth, Rasalhague has negotiated some contracts with local Beastclans, acquired missives of peace from others, and is generally prepared to make it clear to any group they come across that the Troupe means them no harm. Some members of the Troupe even have sapient Familiars. These are Beastclans who have elected to join the Troupe, and they are full-fledged members in their own right even if they choose to stick close to their dragon friends. No dragons in the Troupe object to Beastclan members; most view it as a twelfth Flight, a faction that has as much a place in the world as the dragons do. [/columns] [columns]Religion Religion is not a necessary part of life in the Troupe, and many of its members are only loosely religious. In Sornieth, there is little doubt the gods exist, but there may be disagreement on how, exactly, worship is to be carried out. To those in the Troupe who worship the Windsinger, the songs and plays they put on are usually enough in the way of formal worship. Those who worship other deities tend to have shrines in their personal quarters. [nextcol] [nextcol] [/columns] [columns] [nextcol] [nextcol]ExaltationExaltation is not a hot-ticket issue in the Troupe; they are not a clan which typically has many members to send to serve the Windsinger, nor do they feel an obligation to send their hatchlings off. Typically, exaltation is seen as an honor, but also as a choice. If a dragon doesn't want to serve the Windsinger, they will not be sent to do so. [/columns] [columns]Magic The Troupe frequently employs magic in its performances: illusions, sound-projecting, special effects, anything is fair game so long as it's safe for the performers and the audience. Magic has a special place in many hearts in the Troupe, as their former neighbors, the Roost of Stars, frequently studied and shared magic with the Troupe. [nextcol] [nextcol] [/columns] [columns] [nextcol] [nextcol]NewcomersThe Troupe is friendly to strangers especially, and any dragon that professes a desire to join is accepted wholeheartedly. The Troupe has always considered welcoming strangers one of its most important tenets, as they constantly encounter new dragons and clans on the road. [/columns] Customs The Troupe is not known for being strict toward its members; quite the opposite, in fact. Dragons living with the Troupe are rarely expected to do anything they don't want to do. As the Mirror pack that Ankaa leads makes abundantly clear, a dragon doesn't even have to respect the leaders of the clan to even the barest degree. Rasalhague is lenient; some might call her soft. Dragons are expected to pull their own weight. Especially on the road, it's difficult to carry enough to support an entire clan. If a dragon accompanies the Troupe on its journeys, they have to be able to support themself. Dragons are left to their own devices in a lot of ways, but there are still vague expectations that they won't be a burden. It is customary for every dragon who joins the Troupe to craft a single chime. This piece is then added to the massive windchime in the lobby of the Celestial Cinema, representing the music they all make when they come together. Dragons who leave the clan have the option of having their chime removed, but if they don't decide to do that then it stays as a reminder that they once lived there, too. Favored Goods The Troupe will trade for anything and everything. They produce very little on their own, but travel far and wide. There's a chance they've found something another clan needs on their journeys, and perhaps something that they get in trade with that clan can be put to use on their own. [/columns] [columns]The Akasha Court Polaris and their lackeys used to live in rented spaces in the Celestial Cinema, but Rasalhague was happy to see them go. The mages in the Troupe found friends among this clan's dragons, and everyone still keeps in touch! [/columns] [columns]The Monarch's Sanctuary Another clan the Troupe encountered while out traveling, Rasalhague admires how welcoming and kind the Monarch's Sanctuary appeared. The Troupe welcomed one of their dragons, Dyesolshyed, into the Celestial Cinema to train, while sending the Troupe member Fomalhaut to the Sanctuary, and this forged an interesting bond between the two clans. About the Troupe

A semi-nomadic clan with a fondness for performance, the Troupe of the North Wind is known for traveling far and wide, exploring the world and bringing music and theater to every dragon they meet. They are a tight-knit group, and every dragon in the clan fulfills a necessary role. There is little conflict, but fights can happen, and when they do they're mediated by the leaders of the Troupe.

While they do travel often, the Troupe also has a permanent home in the Windswept Plateau. It's a massive, colorful building known as the Celestial Cinema, a stage with living quarters built around it. They perform there just as often as they perform elsewhere, and some of their most ambitious productions are put on in that building. Other clans may make temporary homes in the area around the Cinema -- it's made for such a purpose, with colorful banners offering shade and walls built to direct wind around any visitors -- but the Cinema is known to belong to the Troupe, and only them.

The Troupe is many years old, a well-established clan with a fair amount of fame, and they have changed significantly over the years. They used to be much larger, but over time the dragons who have stayed are the ones who need the Troupe most, and the ones who left moved on to bigger, better things for themselves. Still, even with fewer members, the Troupe travels like it always did and performs with all its heart.

The Troupe is fairly small, so there are a few spaces left over for guests who stay for extended periods of time.

Beastclans
The Troupe is not hostile to Beastclans, nor are Beastclans hostile toward the Troupe.

Religion
Religion is not a necessary part of life in the Troupe, and many of its members are only loosely religious. In Sornieth, there is little doubt the gods exist, but there may be disagreement on how, exactly, worship is to be carried out. To those in the Troupe who worship the Windsinger, the songs and plays they put on are usually enough in the way of formal worship. Those who worship other deities tend to have shrines in their personal quarters.

xryzgSA.png
Exaltation
Exaltation is not a hot-ticket issue in the Troupe; they are not a clan which typically has many members to send to serve the Windsinger, nor do they feel an obligation to send their hatchlings off. Typically, exaltation is seen as an honor, but also as a choice. If a dragon doesn't want to serve the Windsinger, they will not be sent to do so.

Magic
The Troupe frequently employs magic in its performances: illusions, sound-projecting, special effects, anything is fair game so long as it's safe for the performers and the audience. Magic has a special place in many hearts in the Troupe, as their former neighbors, the Roost of Stars, frequently studied and shared magic with the Troupe.

Newcomers
The Troupe is friendly to strangers especially, and any dragon that professes a desire to join is accepted wholeheartedly. The Troupe has always considered welcoming strangers one of its most important tenets, as they constantly encounter new dragons and clans on the road.

Customs

The Troupe is not known for being strict toward its members; quite the opposite, in fact.

Favored Goods

The Troupe will trade for anything and everything. They produce very little on their own, but travel far and wide. There's a chance they've found something another clan needs on their journeys, and perhaps something that they get in trade with that clan can be put to use on their own.

Clan Connections

xryzgSA.png
Arcanum's Roost
This clan was founded by a dragon the Troupe raised, and while the clans have since split, the Troupe of the North Wind maintains a cordial relationship with their magical neighbors. The Roost used to leave in the Celestial Cinema, but they have since left for Arcane lands. The two clans keep in touch.

The Akasha Court
Polaris and their lackeys used to live in rented spaces in the Celestial Cinema, but Rasalhague was happy to see them go. They may be allies in name, but Polaris gives her a bad feeling, and she is more than willing to withdraw her support if it becomes clear that her gut is right.

xryzgSA.png
The Nick-Nack Clan
After a rather strange first encounter with this clan, the Troupe found themselves putting on one of their favorite plays to entertain their new friends. While their founder, PinkCrush, was very welcoming, the more serious and imposing Rivaille kept a close eye on them for any mischief. The mages in the Troupe found friends among this clan's dragons, and everyone still keeps in touch!

The Monarch's Sanctuary
Another clan the Troupe encountered while out traveling, Rasalhague admires how welcoming and kind the Monarch's Sanctuary appeared. The Troupe welcomed one of their dragons, Dyesolshyed, into the Celestial Cinema to train, while sending the Troupe member Fomalhaut to the Sanctuary, and this forged an interesting bond between the two clans.

It has grown into more than just a religion, though; magical prodigies flock to the Roost, seeking study and knowledge of magic that has defied reason for ages. They are not zealots; they are experts in experimentation, and they believe in advancing knowledge of magic at any cost. While they used to share land with the Troupe of the North Wind, the Roost has since moved on to their own land. While their home, the Planetarium, is a new building, the dragons living there have spent many years studying and learning together. The Planetarium itself is actually a library, a collection of magical texts throughout centuries of knowledge, and the very center room is not so much a true planetarium as it is a soothing projection of the cosmos. The Roost is known in its area for dangerous experiments with magic. Overview

Arcanum's Roost started as a small cult worshiping Arcane magic.

Arcane energy is explosive and difficult to manage, after all, but since moving into their own home in the Starfall Isles, they have fielded far less judgement from their neighbors than when they lived with the Troupe. Some of those neighbors are actually curious about the same things.

ygfZJJN.png
Beastclans
The Roost doesn't work closely with Beastclans, but aren't prejudiced against them, either. Neither side has much of a purpose for the other; Beastclan magic isn't what Alfawaris is interested in studying. Perhaps, someday, that will change, but until then the Roost doesn't interact much with Beastclans.

Religion
The Roost began as a religious group, worshiping Arcane magic and the Arcanist in hopes that they would be bestowed with knowledge of it in return. While the group eventually grew past religious worship, they still view magic as a way to honor the Arcanist, and view the acquisition of knowledge as the highest form of respect toward their god.

ygfZJJN.png
Exaltation
The Roost typically doesn't have enough members to consider exaltation; no hatchlings are born into it, and students who come to learn typically have their own goals in mind outside of pledging service to the Arcanist. Thus, while the Roost is fairly open about their respect for the Arcanist, there is very little chance of a dragon leaving the Roost to go serve him.

Magic
To the Roost, magic is the most important, most interesting thing. Their entire lifestyle is dedicated to practicing and understanding the magic that flows through the world. Their theories about magic are strange, however; they want to know about hybrid magic. They want to invent a new kind of magic.

Customs

Both rules and customs are important to the Roost. Some have persevered from the time the Roost was nothing but a small religious gathering, but some are newer.

The Roost has a consistent schedule. They eat together in the mornings, and spend the time between breakfast and lunch studying or working quietly. After lunch passes, even the grumpiest dragons are awake enough for more in-depth activities. Some continue studying in silence, but others get involved in debates, or attempt to practice practical magic. At the end of the day, they often eat dinner with the Troupe, but if the Troupe isn't around they eat in the Planetarium. Then, the time until they go to bed is spent reading or scratching out work until everybody is asleep.

Traditionally, every dragon in the Roost wears the Starlight Cloak as both a kind of uniform and as a badge of honor. It's a symbol of pride in their clan and in the work they do, and most dragons rarely take theirs off except to wash them.

The Roost lived with the Troupe for a very long time, but eventually Alfawaris had to pack up and move his clan to the Arcane flight, where they could study magic in a proper environment.

The Monarch's Sanctuary
Some time ago, a dragon by the name of Dyesolshyed came to visit the Troupe of the North Wind, and befriended the Roost as well. Sadalmelik still corresponds on matters of magical curiosity with Dyesolshyed from time to time, and as a result the Roost has expanded its magical knowledge beyond simply what it has been exposed to.

High Priest
While the Roost is no longer a religious sect, the leader is still called the High Priest as a remnant from the time it was. The leader of the Roost no longer leads religious services, but he does take a great amount of responsibility; he manages the lair, approves experiments and paths of study, and even participates in studies himself. The High Priest of the Roost is the one who serves as an ambassador to other clans and who ensures that the Roost is running smoothly and safely.

Scholar
The scholars of the Roost are the dragons who could be considered experts in their fields. They have been following a path of study for some time now, and are constantly trying to learn more about what catches their interest. In the Roost, those studies tend to be about magic.

Some scholars also teach visitors to the Roost about their areas of study.

ygfZJJN.png
Student
The Roost's newest members don't usually begin as experts. Instead, they must study for a time. Most choose a particular vocation to focus on -- hybrid magics, for example -- and eventually learn enough to be considered a scholar. If their area of study isn't something other scholars of the Roost have studied before, they have to seek out information on it themselves. It's a learning experience.

Hinanthel is a wanderer, but he fell in with the Roost because his father told him about them, speaking fondly of their skill with magic. He lives with them for now, but there's a feeling in the back of his mind that he still hasn't found what he's looking for, and so he senses he may move on soon.

Overview

Polaris is the only unifying factor between all of the dragons who have gathered in the Akasha Court. Every one of these dragons had their own lives, most of them had hardships, and when Polaris swept in these dragons dropped their lives to join them. The names Polaris assigned them, the roles they were given, they were just an expectation for anybody who wanted to approach Polaris's light.

Now that they have gathered all the dragons they want, Polaris has turned their attention to the next step: a kingdom of their own. They have always had one, singular goal: a kingdom of impartial, unselfish, honest Truth, in the Lightweaver's land, for them to rule over.

STYzy2l.png
Beastclans
Polaris demands that any Beastclans living in their kingdom pledge loyalty to the Akasha Court, which doesn't make the ideal first impression. There is tension between the Beastclans and the Court; some clans took the road of least resistance and allied themselves with Polaris, but others are angry at Polaris and the Court for the disrespect they've been shown.

Religion
Polaris doesn't see religion as important, but they admire what the Lightweaver stands for, and pay mild tribute to her. The rest of the Court has the right to worship any deity they want -- one of the few freedoms Polaris affords them.

STYzy2l.png
Exaltation
As the Court isn't particularly religious, exaltation isn't a priority for them. Any dragon that can be sent to serve the Lightweaver can remain at home and contribute to the Court. If a dragon truly wishes it, Polaris might let them go, but it isn't something that happens without petitioning and approval.

Magic
Polaris specifically gathered dragons of every element because they are fascinated with elemental magic. They love it, and admire those who are proficient in it, but don't use it often. As an Arcane dragon who admires Light magic the most, they mostly wish they had the opportunity to choose their own element.

Customs

These rules were introduced very slowly, over time, as Polaris picked up new underlings. At first it seemed benign, but now it's clear that these rules leave very little room for error. The consequences for breaking them are severe.

  • Polaris's word is law. Anything they command, even if it breaks another rule, must be obeyed.
  • All members of the Court must both be loyal to Polaris and loyal to the continued existence of the kingdom itself. You can't be loyal to one but not the other.
  • While personal possessions are allowed, a portion of all items acquired must be given to Polaris to contribute to the continued growth of the kingdom.
  • Emotional bonds with dragons outside the Court are forbidden. Purely professional relationships are fine.
  • Lying is prohibited. This is, after all, a kingdom of Truth.
  • Each dragon has a role they are expected to fulfill, but much of the time that role is unspoken, and they have to figure out over time what exactly is expected of them.

Polaris's has a tenuous relationship with the Troupe of the North Wind, and with Rasalhague by extension. Royal Guards
With authority second only to Polaris, the Guards of the kingdom are given mostly-free reign over any task that involves the protection of Polaris. They can go to any length to ensure that the kingdom and its sovereign remain stable.

A unique creature Polaris discovered in their journeys, Alcor is a sword which somehow managed to develop emotion, awareness, feeling. He lives as a member of the Akasha Court, given free reign until Polaris needs him.

They do not participate in the workings of the Court; their job is far too important to waste time on frivolity. They have become a small family of their own, more loyal to the Triangulum than to the Court as a whole.

Alcor

Polaris's weapon of choice, should they need to go into battle. Alcor may look like a dragon, but his image isn't what he truly is. He isn't sure if it's a projection, or genuine shapeshifting, but his actual form is a simple sword, keen-edged and well-balanced. His mission in life is to find out how and why he developed feelings and awareness.

lightmidsmall.png
Arcturus

Arcturus is the commander of the Triangulum, the group in charge of defending the borders of the kingdom. He is grateful to Polaris for taking him from his old life as a soldier and giving him a life where he isn't forced to fight in other people's wars. Every time he uses his magic, another piece of him burns away.

Tad

A young hatchling adopted by the Triangulum, Tad was allowed to stay under one condition: Polaris wanted to make them eternally youthful. When the alternative was losing their family, they had to agree, but it hasn't been so bad. Nobody sees the tiny hatchling pickpocketing guests.

Beastclan Members

Polaris expects loyalty from the Beastclans that remain in their kingdom. They would prefer to approach the issue peacefully, but are more than willing to resort to violence if that appears to be the only way.

Kax
The ambassador between the Beastclans of the kingdom and Polaris. He lives and works in the Court, but came from one of the clans that lives on the land Polaris acquired. He does his best to balance the needs of both; he believes strongly that dragons and Beastclans need to live in harmony, or both will destroy each other.

Beastclans
The Revolutionaries and the Beastclans often find their interests aligning. Those holding power in the Ashfall Wastes are also those who cheat and steal from the Beastclans, and as a result, many of the Revolutionaries are Beastclans themselves. The roles they serve are just as important.

Exaltation

In addition, Flamewrath himself has seen dragons prey upon Exaltation, and if he can't assure that will never happen again, he can't take that risk.

Magic
Magic is a tool to be used like any other. The Revolutionaries do not inherently trust or mistrust it. They have plenty of mage members, and overall they agree that the most important consideration is how it is used. It can be dangerous, yes, but it can also be used to help their cause, to grant freedom, to inspire hope. It isn't good or bad in of itself; it is good or bad based on why it's used.

He has had too many experiences with corruption and abuse of power to put himself at a higher rank than his fellows; in his eyes, they are all working together toward the same goal. Serving different roles, but always equal. The other members know better. He is the leader because they choose to follow him, not because he elevated himself. They want him to guide them, and so he does. [/columns] [columns]Healers In any attempt at revolution, healers are vital to the effort. Knowledge of medicine is what keeps injured dragons going. With numbers already so small, losing a single dragon could cripple the revolution. Those with healing magic, especially, are important for short-term healing, so as not to let any injuries slow anybody down. Magic can be turned to almost any use; both offensive and defensive magic adds to the effort. Even smaller magics, such as divination, can turn the odds in the favor of the revolutionaries; they need all the help they can get. [/columns] [columns]Warriors Even in actions which avoid direct battle, dragons who are skilled at combat are important. They can serve as guards, as scouts, as saboteurs -- the more versatile a dragon's skills, the more they can contribute. The simple ability to fight with tooth and claw must not be underestimated. Roles
36945106.png

7NgPIAz.png
Leadership
Flamewrath rejects leadership of his clan.

Healers
In any attempt at revolution, healers are vital to the effort. Knowledge of medicine is what keeps injured dragons going. With numbers already so small, losing a single dragon could cripple the revolution. Those with healing magic, especially, are important for short-term healing, so as not to let any injuries slow anybody down.

7NgPIAz.png
Mages
Versatile and powerful, skilled mages could mean the difference between winning and losing a major battle. Magic can be turned to almost any use; both offensive and defensive magic adds to the effort. Even smaller magics, such as divination, can turn the odds in the favor of the revolutionaries; they need all the help they can get.

Warriors
Even in actions which avoid direct battle, dragons who are skilled at combat are important. They can serve as guards, as scouts, as saboteurs -- the more versatile a dragon's skills, the more they can contribute. The simple ability to fight with tooth and claw must not be underestimated.

7NgPIAz.png
Shadows
Many dragons choose to serve the revolution from the shadows, electing to take small, quiet actions which aren't always noticeable, but which ultimately serve a purpose in the larger picture. This can range from information-gathering to assassination, depending on how bold the dragon feels.

Flamewrath

Flamewrath is the founder of the revolutionaries, but rejects the role of "leader." His entire life has been one long experience of abuse of power, and he wants no part of it. He intends to create a peaceful world if it kills him, and he's starting with the Ashfall Wastes, creating a sanctuary for all those who need it, dragon and Beastclan alike.

He resists the call of the Search; he came across his Charge once before, but not for long enough to reveal himself, and now he's far too busy to go looking again.
Fei

Once the heiress of a powerful family, Fei joined the Revolutionaries first as an act of rebellion. Once she started to realize what injustices her family was taking part of, she began working alongside Flamewrath to try to lessen the damage. Her family didn't take well to this, and disowned her promptly, but Fei simply went to live with the Revolutionaries. Alniyat

A deserter from a cruel and ruthless military, Alniyat has a haunted affect. He is plagued by the feeling that he inevitably will be dragged back, despite the promises of the Revolutionaries to protect him at any cost.

Despite his fears, Alniyat is a capable and strategic warrior. His small stature encourages him to look for weaknesses in his enemies, and he knows that all he has to do is apply pressure to the right point to cause the whole thing to collapse. The Revolutionaries are short-staffed, and this is invaluable talent.

Beastclan Members

The Revolutionaries are small in number, but bolstering their ranks with Beastclans serves to reduce the load on each individual. As a group, Beastclans experience more wrongdoings than dragons, and the Revolutionaries refuse to contribute to that in the world they create. It will be a peace for everybody, not dragons alone.

Aumon is not a peaceful person, but he isn't a warmonger, either. He believes in an eye for an eye; that which is inflicted on one can be given in kind. Flamewrath has gained his trust, so Aumon will repay his kindness.

Cindyr
Aumon's sister, and the most skilled bowman in the Revolutionaries, Cindyr is hotheaded and ready to fight at any time. She's had a hard time adjusting to the peace-first ways of the Revolutionaries, but her brother keeps an eye on her.
