Gotta say I'm wishing that Scuttle was also an option for insectoid surges.
Okay, I think I have a nice explanation why MoretonWave is an Alien.

Lore (warning! Long!)
MoretonWave takes her name from a solar phenomena whereby there are tsunami-like waves taking place on the surface of a star. Depending on the size and situation of the star, and the size and pattern of the wave fronts, the impact can range from negligible but interesting to having deleterious impact on any nearby planets (the closer the planet, the greater the potential issue).
Planet doomed, MoretonWave was one of the first researchers to understand the danger; though her area of expertise was not in fact anything to do with the stars or cosmology. She was essentially a midwife/healer who used a combination of magic and technology to heal or prevent birth defects in unborn (or unhatched) offspring. Her initial researches had produced amazing results. She was working with a cadre of researchers who developed the ambitious plan of "curing" otherwise incurable illnesses with a combination of magic and gene-geneering via essentially putting the "essence" of an older entity into a DNA strand that would be a replica of an existing egg. They were hesitant to pursue this, due to a lack in certainty about a metaphysical question: what about the souls involved? Were they essentially destroying an unborn/unhatched soul? Were the two souls' merging? The few successful "re-hatches" generally had some, but not all of their previous memories and the gaps ranged from "vague preferences" to near total recall of the past life, with no clear pattern.
When the cataclysm came, she and her team prepared a pod intended to "re-hatch" them into compatible life forms. They, or at least she, landed in Sornieth. She has considerable recall of her past, and hopes someday to reunite with at least one of her team members. If any of them remember her.
