As they grew and were trained, Viori never preferred the sword, it still felt foreign to them even after training with it. Unknown to Vio, their strong affinity to magic shone through thanks to tapping into their bloodline's magic source passed down to the Imperial from their great grandmother. The affinity was stronger with light and shadow magic, which they honed away from their brother and was soon set to train under the more talented magic wielders of Ingheldin. As years went by, the newly appointed Sorceress, now called “The Aion” in public, started to make a name for themself, especially once Viorica started creating beastly shades from their powers, these being their companions from that point on. Once the urge to find out where they belonged, Vio consulted with their bodyguard, Isadora, someone that Andras had personally assigned to them upon their transfer into the magic division of the guards, and with a blessing of Andrias, they set out into the Wastes. It would be dangerous, but what journey to self discovery wouldn't be? They were different from others in the City and Viorica needed to find out why they were. What was the reason for their differences? Isadora and Vio traveled from one settlement to another, until they met Yuki and Faolin, a blind oracle and his guardian who Vio happened upon outside. They exchange stories and Yuki, after he reads the Imperial’s future, explained that their journey takes them into the deepest parts of the waste, where trouble is brewing. That Vio’s powers are somehow connected to that trouble. The greyscale dragon offered his help in uncovering the mysteries of this trouble, his skydancer guardian sighing and commenting that he always seems to want to rush into danger. And into the Wake no less. After a scuffle with some bandits in the Wastes a few weeks into their journey, Vio was unknowingly infected by the pathogen that was kicked up, which started to slowly affect their mind, a key factor that marks an Imperial’s transformation into an Emperor. This pathogen affected their magic in unusual ways at the start, making a spell of theirs backfired while resting, soon causing discoloration on their entire body, shifting their scales from beautiful brown and white, to dark blue and black. It would take years for the pathogen to take full effect in successfully turning Viorica into the first of their line - a Shade Emperor, a new subspecies. Their children would become carriers of the pathogen as they grow into adulthood, all of them being marked to turn into future Shade Emperors like their mother. Depending on the hatchling, the pathogen would be a gradual change or accelerate the change. [emoji=crescent moon 1 size=1] [b]STARTING LORE FOR LORE CONTEST: [/b][emoji=crescent moon 1 size=1] Note: These kids will reflect a semi-normal Vio just as the pathogen starts to settle in, the shade only agitating it once they try and fuse the essence of Earth into their third nest. This spell backfired causing a magical pulse to spread through their body, staining and saturating Vio's brown and white scales into a deep blue-black color. The Plague and Earth nest are the only kids who have been bred with Viorica's normal colors of Dirt/Maize/Soil. Thanks to a one scatter wonder, the rest of Vio's kids will be within a blue to white range. (The lore below will be added into their bio and you may expand on this.) The massive cavern system that resided underneath the Emperor's Wake was quiet, other then the faint drips of water falling into stagnant pools that echoed rhythmically through the tunnels, tunnels that, as far as Viorica and her group knew, connected to other parts of Sornieth. Being underground was safer than being on the surface, especially due to the fact that the Luminax had recently been growing exceedingly restless and more active as days passed by. This fact had concerned Yuki, the Wildclaw having been in constant communication with outside forces and guards that were posted in the various establishments. Viorica's frown had deepen the more they though about it, tapping a clawed tip against their muzzle. There were several pieces of the puzzle that slowly fell into place before them. The increased activity of the first Emperor and it's rampages aligned perfectly with the whispers inside the Aion's mind and the frequent pulling and calling to join it above the surface. The pathogen inside Vio was awakening once more, yet the magic that Yuki and Isodora had weaved temporarily subdued the symptoms, allowing them some sense on normalcy for an undetermined amount of time. This gave the Imperial time to focus on more important matters while their mate and companions worked to provide temporarily countermeasures to combat the lumbering undead fusion of Imperials. The eggs... [b][i]Plague Kids[/i][/b] Their first clutch, healthy and safe, rested in a raised circle directly in the center of the main cavern, the glow of the built-in rows of specially designed lights running along the high rocky ceiling illuminating the glimmering scales of the three large eggs. it was about time for them to hatch, after all. Movement from each of the eggs caught Viorica's attention as the brown scaled Imperial curled around the nest, golden eyes softly watching the way the eggs shuddered and rocked from side to side. So fascinated with the three eggs, Viorica didn’t notice an odd feeling that settled in the area until a horrible smell permeated the vicinity of the nest suddenly. An alarm went off in their mind, jolting the dragon to their feet. Panicked eyes were drawn down to the center of the nest, which was filling rapidly with an ominous red mist from the very sand they rested within, enveloping each egg completely. On one side, the mist had spilled over the edge, a trail of mist creeping over the ground and disappeared down one of the nearest tunnels. A deep growl rumbled within their throat, fangs snapping the air as their wings spread open to give several flaps to blow the offending aura away and back down the tunnel that the Imperial knew connected the cavern to the Plague Flight. Their guard didn’t lower, drawing a symbol in the air with a single claw to seal that tunnel off completely. Concern swelled within Viorica, the brown dragon considering calling their busy mate back from his expedition into the Wake to gather some materials that they needed. But first, they needed to make sure the eggs were unharmed. The three eggs were still there, no… wait… not three. Six eggs laid in the now crowded nest, nestled close to each other in a way that it seemed there always had been six in the nest. Where had the three other eggs come from? An odd glowing aura glimmered across each eggs surface, drawing a concerned sound from the Imperial. Viorica didn’t know if the plague aura that had saturated them harmed their children in any way, so to air on the side of caution, the dragon ran a claw every so gently along each egg’s surface, a gentle golden glow wrapping itself around the surface just as cracks appeared. [b][i]Earth Kids[/i][/b] Another three eggs rested before Viorica, who had been resting back on their hindquarters, tending to them with the utmost care. After the scare from the first nest, and the three extra eggs that had been produced when the plague aura had leaked into the nest and saturated them with its potent powers, the Imperial used their innate ability over light to create an invisible protective light aura around each egg this time. However, even with the spell protecting the eggs this time, Vio's sharp eyes caught sight of the telltale signs of the pathogen infection - shimmering black cracks that seemed to glow with pinpricks of various colors, fading in and out on each of the shells. The pathogen had been passed down once more, from mother to children. Sharp golden eyes closed for a few moments, claws curling around the edge of the nest while a multitude of thoughts raced through her mind. What could they do.. what could be used if not to prevent, but slow down the infection rate that the pathogen was causing? A grumble left Viorica's lips as their eyes opened, sweeping across the cavern before inhaling as a breeze drifted down one of the tunnels, a pleasant smell drifted by them, soothing the racing thoughts considerably. Curious, Viorica pondered for a moment before the dragon lifted up a clawed hand, concentrating for a few moments. Swirling streams of the Earth aura were drawn in around their claws from that tunnel before moving it over each egg, a single tap enough to let the aura fall and cover the eggs. With the power of Earth enveloping and being infused into these eggs, what did it mean for their hatchlings? Only time would tell if the sturdiness that the Earth Flight was known for would slow the progression down. To protect every egg they produced, Viorica needed to find a permanent solution, yet that required time and effort and above all, trial and error.
