This verdant wetland is a wellspring of life, propagating both flora and fauna alike, and doing so at an impossible rate. The beasts that call it home are unnervingly beautiful - shimmering, glorious creatures of unnatural size, or speed, or strength. Indeed, this seems like a place that has been uniquely touched by the hand of nature, granting those within all her boons, no matter how terrifying the consequences. Three places have been mapped within the Veins. The outer edge is the Tributary, where sparkling clear water runs inland, creating rivulets and pools full of shimmering flora and fauna. While one might think that this place, with its beauty, is the safest place within the Veins, you must take care nonetheless. It would not do to discover where the beauty of the beasts in the water ends, and their true nature begins. Inlands, water and muck give way to the Timber, where towering trees create soft shadows and dappled light. The beasts here move in secret and sun alike, though each one boasts either enormous size or terrible speed. Even those that seem unthreatening - herbivores, or prey creatures, or otherwise natural pacifists - pose a danger by their sheer unnatural power. It seems they do not know that their might is unusual. It would not benefit you to find yourself, by mistake or otherwise, on the other end of it. At the center of the Timber is a dark, black shadow that spreads out almost as a physical wall. This is the Deep Woods, and it is the beating heart of all that is otherwordly within the Veins. Entering this place is stepping into something altogether incomprehensible. The air is thick and charged, and moving through it feels more like swimming than striding. The creatures that move through here are luminescent, glowing with terrifying power. They do not regard you, usually - they do not even see you. You are aware, all too well, that you are nothing more than an insect in this place. When you look carefully, you can see slender bodies writhing, twisting and turning beneath the mud and murk. It seems that these eels wait at the shoreline for an unsuspecting creature to venture too close, then sink their fangs into the unlucky victim and drag them in. The creature moves with shaking, shuddering steps, as if each one is a fresh, unbearable labor. When you look closely, you see the fungus's tendrils spinning out from the visible mushrooms, circling and spiraling into the beast's brain.[/center][img]https://i.imgur.com/6jSBTZL.png[/img] [img]https://imgur.com/OX8AqTm.png[/img] [center][font=georgia][size=5]The only time you see these creatures is when you spot their eyes beneath the water. That is all they are, really - a glowing set of eyes. A living threat. You know they are watching you. One regards you with an enormous, glowing eye, and you feel the weight of its evaluation settle into your bones. These, in particular, seem to thrive in the sparkling, clear waters of the Tributary. They circle around the shore in a dazzling array of colors, showcasing the natural brilliance that hides behind this place's unease. You are still careful to watch your step at the water's edge. The hold a noble bearing, and there is a fierce gleam as the light reflects off the nearby water and glimmers in their eyes. It is most certainly an illusion - but it sends a chill down your spine nonetheless. This place is fond of illusion.
