Welcome, welcome! Please, have a seat! Oh-- not there. Sorry. That stool is covered in some rather rare arcane scrolls. Perhaps the loveseat? No? Ah, yes. You're right. It's covered in two extremely heavy encyclopedias. Hmm. The rocking chair is empty-- and here. Have a cushion.
Excellent! Now that we're comfy, do tell me: what type of lore is it that you seek?

Murene
A shadow stirs in the shallows. Swaths of seaweed shift ever-so-slightly as a blue sailfin, invisible to the untrained eye, crests over the edge of a rocky outcrop. The schools of fish winking and undulating in the cerulean light do not see her coming. They never do. Using the emerald fields of seaweed as her cover, Murene slips ever-closer– then strikes! The fish do not even have time to panic. Languid as ever, the skilled Undertide slowly gathers the spoils of her kill. She moves like a floating ribbon through the waves as grains of sand graze her scaly belly. She and her mate, Mora, will eat well tonight. This huntress has an alarmingly high catch rate. Luckily, her only interest is seafood– otherwise dragons who play on the seashore might have something worse than drowning to worry about.
Unlike Mora, with his spiraling, twirling hunting methods, Murene prefers to slowly sneak up on her prey. Her green serpentine body enables her to disguise herself amongst various types of seaweed, while her wings and sailfins match the hues of the water. His approach is about action and movement. Hers is about waiting. The duo always brings home more fish than any clanmate could ever imagine. The combination of their diverse methods make for the perfect hunting party. The couple engages in a friendly competition whenever they go fishing together. Whoever brings home the heaviest catch is the winner. Once, Murene brought home a three-foot long Hatchetfish! She ate her catch with relish– Hatchetfish are delicious– and the tale of her wrestling with this enormous heavy creature entertained the entire clan.
When it comes to the Shade-touched, Murene has a rather laissez-faire attitude. She has no desire to go out of her way to seek out beasts corrupted by shadow. She’d rather spend her days napping on flat rocks or fishing in the shallows. She finds many interesting specimens up where the sun shines through the waves. Beings of the sea are strange and unnerving, even without the addition of Shade magic. She enjoys observing her prey for some time before the hunt truly begins. This curious Undertide takes notes in her journals about the behaviors and habits of the creatures she finds. Completely by accident, she has become quite the field researcher. Even the clan’s more scientific dragons utilize her meticulous notes. Her descriptions of the regeneration capabilities of the Glowstar are nigh unparalleled. Her tone is more colloquial than professional, but the content itself is spectacular. Murene explains that in order to hunt something, a dragon must truly understand and respect it. This is the true purpose of her zoological musings.

BISPORUS
xe/xem/xyrs
keeper of the dead |
|
Bisporus is, to put it lightly, feral. Xe tends to get on the other dragons' nerves with xyr overly-zealous antics. This dragon will not. Stop. Talking. About. Death. And. Decomposition. Which makes xem the perfect match for Agaricus, who is fascinated with draconian death rituals. The two have spent so much time together that Aggie's mushrooms have started to take up residence on Bisporus' bark-like skin. It seems that the Kuuwarden dragon forest has acquired yet another mushroom-covered tree. Annoying though xe may be, Bisporous knows how to celebrate dragons who have passed on. Xe always knows the perfect thing to say to someone in mourning, and prepares the perfect ritual for the dragon who has died. Xe explains that this is because xe can talk to ghosts. "Ghosts" is xyr rudimentary term for it. Xe actually means, "Using fungi as channels to consult the manifest energy of the dragon, which still dances through the universe long after death," but that's a bit of a mouthful, so "talking to ghosts" will have to do. Xe makes death almost seem fun, which would almost be disturbing if it wasn't clear how much xe respects death. What is made cannot be unmade. Bisporus will continue to consult the universe to ensure that someday, each dragon that has moved on can eventually come home. |

Vignetta
“Come one, come all, to the greatest show in Sornieth! None will be disappointed by the mysterious– the inimitable– the dashing Vignetta!”
The disembodied voice rings out across the plains, enticing excitable dragons to the purple and blue tent that seems to pop up out of nowhere. A Chainlink Jeweler sits behind a lacquer desk, holding a strange violet box covered in odd etchings. Folks exchange treasure for little silver tokens inscribed with a flourishing letter V. This is how everyone knows the Great Magician Vignetta is in town. Instructions for locating the show are inscribed on the back of the token. It says, “Press me.” If a dragon were to press the button, a shimmering green orb would appear, leading them through the night to a misty glen. In the midst of the swirling smoke, an outdoor stage unfolds as if out of a pop-up book. String lights pulse like will-o’wisps. A lilting tune chuckles through the night. That same little Chainlink Jeweler urges audience members to take their seats. The performance is about to begin!
A puff of smoke! A flock of doves! An endless trail of golden scarves emerging from an audience member’s throat! A magician never reveals her secrets– especially when those secrets involve real magic. Vignetta’s infamous performances are more than mere parlor tricks. She is deeply imbued with arcane abilities. When the rabbit disappears, it is quite literally invisible. When the puppet dances with no strings, it’s truly performing of its own accord. Her most popular trick involves the strange glowing green orbs that seem to follow her wherever she goes. She can make them bounce and spin, practically hypnotizing her audience as she creates mystical patterns in the sky. Vignetta’s performances tend to blend elements of the whimsical with the inexplicable. She loves to dazzle and confuse the crowd. Cloaked in the utmost humility, she accepts each round of applause with grace and vigor. She is truly a performer like no other. Many have professed their love to her during performances. Some even shower her in rare, exotic gifts. She never accepts these suitors or their favors. She is not here to court. She is here to perform! Vignetta will not let anything distract her from her show.
She can make herself incredibly large or impossibly miniscule. She can make tables dance and shadows sing. She can make flowers bloom in circlets around audience members’ heads, summon beings from the deepest trenches of the imaginary, and bring book pages to life. Everyone is entranced by this mysterious dragon’s mystical abilities. No one knows precisely who she is, or where she came from, but she’s here now– and she’s here to entertain! What is life without a bit of mystical flair? There’s nothing more enchanting than the unexplainable– and Vignetta is one of the most unexplainable beings in Sornieth. Nobody can figure out the truth behind Vignetta’s elaborate tricks. This is because it’s truth all the way down. No lies. No falsehoods. Just plain, old, honest magic. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! Tips are not required but deeply appreciated. A dragon’s gotta eat, after all.
