Biography

Radiance lazily drifted on his back next to Luminous as they approached the beach. His neck frills fanned and flattened with the current pushing against his neck, and he blinked lazily up at the night sky. "Beautiful stars tonight." His sister, Luminous, glanced over at him from where she paddled gently and sighed. "Yes. I still wish we could see the sun..." Radiance glanced over at the newest sunburn on her back and frowned. "You know we can't do that, Luminous. There's no point in thinking that way. Maybe once we get under the cover of leaves, but we'll have to build a pavilion..." For some reason, the two twins were so pale they shone in the dark, and yet couldn't venture into the sun without a harsh red sunburn spreading in between their scales and creating what felt like endless suffering. Luminous just sighed again as they began to reach the sand of the beach near the forest. She climbed into the sand, frowning at the grainy bits as they sunk between her claws. "I hate sand...at least we'll be out of it soon. Though I'll miss the water." "I know, me too," Radiance agreed, "but the ocean is too open. There's nowhere to go to escape the sun." "I know that," Luminous replied, rolling her eyes, "we already discussed this." Radiance twisted so he was facing the correct direction and padded up next to his sister, shaking the droplets of water off of his wings. "I guess mostly I'm saying it for myself." Luminous nodded, then pressed closer to her brother, shivering. Radiance realized she was a lot more frightened than her cocky talk indicated, and he wrapped his tail around hers. "Don't worry. We'll be okay." "I miss the pod," she whispered. The pod had abandoned the two of them after discovering their unique mutation, and the two twins thought of them frequently. Radiance didn't even bother replying, just pressed closer. Suddenly, the two of them heard bushes rustling, and they backed up instinctively, water splashing beneath their talons as they shared a frightened look and prepared to dive into the water if something dangerous approached them. Radiance cast a desperate look at the sky. The moon was already beginning to set - they didn't have much time to find somewhere safe. However, the underbrush parted to reveal two other Fathoms, one blue-and-black, and one red-and-grey. They were laughing and so clearly absorbed in each other they didn't even see the two smaller dragons at first. When they did see the two white dragons, they both halted, stunned. Radiance stared at the Fathoms with wide eyes, then blurted out, "T-there are Fathoms in the forest?" "Radiance!" Luminous hissed, trying to push him into the water so they could flee, but Radiance was stuck staring at the other pair. Maybe we can live in the forest! The blue one glanced at the other and then said to Radiance, "Well, we're the only two we know of..." "Oh," Radiance said, his tail and wings drooping. "But it's not that hard to adapt, though clearly we still come down here for a dip," the other shrugged, then added, "I'm Iodi. And this is my mate, Rilaria." Radiance shared a glance with Luminous, a silent conversation passing between the two of them, then he stepped forward. "I'm Radiance and this is my sister, Luminous. We...we can't live in the ocean any longer. We've come to the forest to find a home. Do you know anywhere we could stay?" Rilaria tilted her head, then said, "Actually...we know of the perfect spot, if you don't mind being around other dragons." "Not at all..." Luminous volunteered shyly. Rilaria looked at Iodi, raising one eyebrow as if to ask a question. Iodi nodded in return, then gestured to the two younger Fathoms with one wing. "Here, follow us." |
