Biography
Ikone
Ikone is a divinator who reads the stars and uses them to tell the future...But she's quite insistent that she is not an astrologer, not even a horoary astrologer, she's an astromancer, and refuses to listen to anyone who tries to tell her that they're the same thing. Most dragons quietly choose to call her a divinator instead, just to avoid the drama.
Ikone started out telling the future using the stars as a hatchling. She would sneak out of the nursery at night and go look up at the stars, and draw her own images of the night sky, night after night, and then compare them to each other to try and decipher a prophecy out of what she saw. Poxann saw her doing this, and nudged her towards Cymry, thinking Ikone's interest was just in the stars themselves.
Although Ikone enjoys her studies under Cymry, what she's really passionate about is predicting the future, and Cymry understands that. Cymry doesn't busy her with deep theories about what stars are made of or lessons about how to understand astronomical distances, but instead tutors her in what she's genuinely interested in. Star charts are Ikone's favorite, and so most of their time together is spent drawing and deciphering star charts. Ikone is thriving under Cymry's tutelage, and her divination is improving as a result. Her knowledge of general astronomy is improving, too, and when Cymry isn't available, Ikone is usual able to answer a dragon's questions about the stars.
Ikone's predictions have improved greatly since she started studying under Cymry, but they're still not particularly good nor bad. They aren't wrong, but they're not right, either. She often uses the vague language to her benefit, or interprets words and phrases in ways that stretch their meaning just a little too far.
In addition, one cannot simply visit Ikone and ask her to make a prediction for them. The night sky is particular. Some nights are too cloudy to read anything at all, and some nights the stars are just "particular", as she claims. It can take weeks of watching the stars for her to scrape together any kind of a prediction, or she might get three predictions in a row, night after night after night. She never knows how things are going to be.
Ikone intentionally speaks extremely cryptically and vaguely, perhaps to help protect her against accusations that her predictions were wrong. The more vaguely she speaks, the further she can stretch the meaning of her words. But that’s not the only reason; it’s also largely simply because she has a flair for the dramatic. Her manner of speech has given her a reputation as a mystic.
Ikone takes a lot of pride in her appearance. She loves sparkles and silks and pretty things, and adorns herself in them constantly. She keeps a lot of mirrors in her den, which she claims are to help her read her star charts better, but all of her clanmates have caught her gazing into them at least once. Her favorite feature about herself is her eyes. They're so dark they're almost black, and the reflection of the stars in them makes them sparkle. She once heard one of her clanmates say her eyes were like dark pools of stars, and she desperately clings to that expression.
In her free time, Ikone doesn't just stargaze for prophecies. She does it recreationally, too. She often approaches Cymry, her beloved mentor and friend, while she's out stargazing at night and just sits by her side to watch the stars with her. Ikone can't imagine spending her time in a better way.
