Biography
MATED TO AO GUANG
This politely startled looking Imperial was whisked from her lair as a hatchling to be the future mate of Tomahawk. Even as a baby she dwarfed her diminutive partner, and couldn't help but feel he was better suited to the little Fae, Melusine, to whom he was mutually devoted. To add insult to injury, Tomahawk refused to follow the Matriarch's edict and spurned Irulan for another Nocturne. To be fair, he was very apologetic about it, saying that it was an untenable situation for both of them, and that Irulan would be happier finding her own true love; he also gifted her a Familiar, but she encouraged it to go to another dragon, taking for herself a Polarfreeze Defender at the next Crystalline Gala. The bear was much more suited to her temperament, reminding her of the land of her birth, rather than a disastrous mating proposal. Since then she has always befriended creatures of the Ice element or realms.

Which tert: Lace, Ringlets or Filigree?
Melusine was very attentive to Irulan, originally just so that she could remain close to her true love, but she felt a genuine sympathy for the young dragon's treatment and, since neither might have what they truly wanted, the two dragons grew closer and became inseparable friends. Melusine often perched on Irulan's shoulder like a matching ornament, unnoticed until she flared her crest and shrilled into a conversation. Eventually Tomahawk became less and less interested in the little Fae and more and more devoted to his Thief, and Mote sent Melusine to another lair lest her heart be broken.
Irulan's Flight served her well throughout this awkward business, her icy composure bolstering the certainty that she is the epitome of dragon species, a Lightborn dragon returned to its native land. Many another young dragon would have made a spectacular fuss over being treated like the spoils of pass the parcel; Irulan has just become determined never to let others dictate her future.
For her part, Mote is sorry for the whole affair, realising that she let her aspirations get the better of her, and she applied herself to finding a much more suitable mate for Irulan. Now she has an icy Imperial suitor and is, presumably, happy. It is hard to tell.
[Named after Princess Irulan from the Dune series by Frank Herbert, who was wife in name only to Emperor Paul Atreides. Their match was purely political; his love - and children, though not in this case! - were given exclusively to his Fremen mistress Chani. I didn't want to go the whole hog and name my Nocturne after Muad'Dib though!]
Glitterfreeze Ice-trolabe, Snowfall Robe, Frigid Crown
